Luke Plays drums with a local Ska band called Ratrace. This was my opportunity to take some shots at their rehearsal.
I have little interest in 'Explore' and am often surprised when a pic seems to randomly take off and be included in that pool ..... this one just has been included, and I'm quite surprised that it has done so, with 221 views and 7 faves (at time of writing), while 2 pics over another photo in the same batch has 331 views and 18 faves ..... not that I would expect that one to make 'Explore' (nor particularly care), but why this one and not the one which is clearly much more popular? .... I already thought 'Explore' was pretty meaningless, but this instance emphasises that even more

An aerial perspective on the cold beauty of Jökulsárlón Ice Lagoon in Iceland. The patterns in the distant mountain align to the texture of the grit lines in the ice. The ice takes the form of small mountains concealed below the deep blue waters. A magical winter land which proves our imagination exists somewhere.
Today we have been setting some natural history context for the story of "The First Tasmanians". This is a permanent exhibition at the QVMAG in Launceston. An exhibition curated by the museum and art gallery in conjunction with the Aboriginal community.

The little machine pictured above allows the viewer to watch a simulation of how the landscape of Tasmania has changed over the last 50,000 years - not long before the first people arrived. This is deep time, prehistory, before we even begin to have oral history.

About the Mine
• Kennecott's Bingham Canyon Mine has produced more copper than any mine in history - about 18.7 million tons.
• The mine is 2-3/4 miles across at the top and 3/4 of a mile deep. You could stack two Sears Towers (now known as the Willis Building) on top of each other and still not reach the top of the mine.
• If you stretched out all the roads in the open pit mine, you'd have 500 miles of roadway - enough to reach from Salt Lake City to Denver.
• You could lay the soccer field at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah end to end more than 38 times across the top of the Bingham Canyon Mine before it would reach both sides.
• The elevation of the Bingham Canyon Mine drops from 8,040 feet above sea level to 4,390 feet above sea level. The Visitors Center is located at 6,440 feet above sea level.
About the Equipment
• The giant electric shovels in the mine can scoop up as much as 98 tons in a single bite -- about the weight of 50 cars.
• The newest electric shovels each cost more than $20 million and weigh 3.2 million pounds.
• The trucks that haul the ore are larger than many houses and weigh more than a jumbo jet. They stand over 23 feet tall and can carry from 255 to 360 tons of rock.
• The truck driver rides about 18 feet above the ground -- nearly two stories high.
• Each tire on these big trucks costs from $18,000 to $26,000 and lasts just 9 months.
• The crusher in the pit takes in about 140,000 tons of ore every day and grinds it into chunks smaller than the size of a basketball.
• At 1,215 feet tall, the Kennecott smokestack is the highest structure in Utah.

I know that I've been posting a lot of "love" shots lately, but my 10 year wedding anniversary is coming up and I can't stop thinking about the last 15 years that my husband and I have been together. I love that man! ^_^

I was under impression that this summer will be the last summer for my Canon 30 D and thay I will concetrate more on 40 D and 5D Mk II but I realised that I miss IR photography so this camera is my work horse( for IR shots only ) .From now on, it will be used during summer.

Images captured during an amazing trip to Malta late last year. Valletta, The Fortress City is Malta's capital city The magnificent city grew on the arid rock of Mount Sceberras peninsula, which rises steeply from two deep harbours, Marsamxett and Grand Harbour.

I had driven to Saratoga Springs, but it was so windy that I only got out of the Jeep long enough for my hat to blow off. Afterward, I headed down toward Ibex Dunes for a hike out to the old talc mine ruins.

Cascada Cifuentes, Rio Quequén Salado, Coronel Dorrego, Buenos Aires, Argentina
La Cascada Cifuentes esta ubicada casi sobre la Ruta 3, en la entrada de Oriente y del Balneario Marisol (Tambien llamado Balneario Oriente), y es parte del Rio Quequen Salado ó Mulpunleufú –“río de sangre”, por el color del agua oscurecido por los sedimentos en épocas de lluvias– no es más que un tenue resplandor plateado. Casi como un tesoro que se oculta en un cofre enterrado, lejos de todo, el ancho y profundo Quequén Salado corre tan majestuoso como silencioso por la llanura pampeana y los más bellos cordones dunosos de la costa atlántica, hasta perderse en el mar. Los pocos que tienen la suerte de disfrutarlo no pueden olvidan los multicolores paisajes que teje en los últimos tramos de su manso recorrido y menos aún pueden evitar deslumbrarse por las maravillas que encierra, como un celoso guardián. Es que allí, entre sus amplios meandros, se yerguen nada menos que las cascadas más altas y más anchas de la provincia de Buenos Aires, muy poco conocidas, incluso, por quienes viven a pocos kilómetros del lugar. El agreste espectáculo es llamativo, sobre todo en la rumorosa cascada De Cifuentes, donde el agua cae desde 8 metros de altura y el río, que hasta ese momento se desliza fatigosamente, adquiere un especial dinamismo y se cubre de largas estelas de espuma multicolor. En medio de la cascada, a trasluz de la cortina de agua, se advierte la oscuridad que inunda a una pequeña cavidad en la roca. Allí es posible ingresar y observar, desde un mágico y privilegiado punto de vista, las profusas cascadas. El espectáculo que supone ver los potentes rayos del sol pugnando por ingresar a la cueva a través de los jirones de agua resulta impactante. A esta altura de su "corto" curso de 135 kilómetros, el Quequén Salado tiene alrededor de 30 metros de ancho (que parecen muchos más), un profundo y vertiginoso lecho en forma de empinada V y una profundidad que, en algunos sectores, llega a los 14 metros. Ideal para los espíritus aventureros y amantes de la más pura naturaleza, el lugar es una irresistible tentación para quienes gustan de las cabalgatas, caminatas (tanto por las irregulares márgenes como por las llanas tierras contiguas), paseos en bicicleta, la observación de aves, la fotografía...

The Cascada Cifuentes is located almost on Route 3, at the entrance to the East and the Balneario Marisol (also called Balneario Oriente), and is part of the Rio Quequen Salado or Mulpunleufú - "river of blood", because of the color of the water darkened by the sediments in rainy seasons- is nothing more than a faint silver glow. Almost like a treasure that is hidden in a buried chest, far from everything, the wide and deep Quequén Salado runs as majestic as it is silent through the Pampa plain and the most beautiful dunosos cords of the Atlantic coast, until getting lost in the sea. The few who are fortunate enough to enjoy it can not forget the multicolored landscapes that it weaves in the last sections of its meek journey and even less can avoid being dazzled by the wonders it contains, like a jealous guardian. Is that there, between its wide meanders, stand nothing less than the highest and widest waterfalls in the province of Buenos Aires, very little known, even by those who live a few kilometers away from the place. The wild spectacle is striking, especially in the murmuring waterfall De Cifuentes, where the water falls from 8 meters high and the river, which until then slides fatiguingly, acquires a special dynamism and is covered with long trails of multicolored foam. In the middle of the waterfall, by the light of the curtain of water, one can see the darkness that floods a small cavity in the rock. There it is possible to enter and observe, from a magical and privileged point of view, the profuse waterfalls. The spectacle of seeing the powerful rays of the sun struggling to enter the cave through the shreds of water is shocking. At this point of its "short" 135-kilometer course, the Quequén Salado is about 30 meters wide (which look like many more), a deep and vertiginous bed in the form of steep V and a depth that, in some sectors, reaches at 14 meters. Ideal for adventurous spirits and lovers of the purest nature, the place is an irresistible temptation for those who like horseback riding, hiking (both the irregular margins and the contiguous flat lands), bike rides, bird watching, the photograph...
