The first month of 2025 has been an essay in how cold we can get! Although we are on the same latitude as Moscow, we do have the warming influence of an ocean around Scotland's shores. So we probably shouldn't complain, but of course we do 😊
-16c was the lowest we managed - and snow a foot deep. So we were quite home-centred, and shooting, even in the garden, was quite an adventure. After keeping ourselves warm, we spent a lot of time trying to ensure our garden birds survived too. Icy weather for a few days is not too bad - but when it extends to 2 or 3 weeks, they were suffering. Both water and food froze solid so quickly!
So there are a lot of white images in the monthly collage! I used one snow bokeh image as the background for the collage. Happily the group challenges gave me inspiration for indoor and tabletop still life shots, as we felt the memories of 'lockdown' returning 😊
February is beginning with the same sub-zero world, though much of the snow has gone. But we are looking forward to a very early and very warm Spring! Well - we can dream!

After our time exploring the Jayhawker site in Death Valley, we made our way up and over the Chocolate Mountains, through the Piper Mountains Wilderness, and down to camp at Eureka Dunes.
6307 (ES44AC), 9155 (SD70ACe) and 779 (Dash 9-44CW) lead a westbound BNSF mixed train. 8266 (ES44C4 (GE)) is also providing distributed power at the rear.
The train is seen here traversing the deep cuttings of the straighter 2011 alignment. The winding 1868 alignment is out of sight to the left.

A perfectly calm lake deep in Wyoming's Wind River Mountains, with alpenglow highlighting the 2,000-foot sheer granite faces.

Dripping tap in a black baking tin tray. The white balance was adjusted on a weak yellow light bulb. Making the picture using the flash gives amazing blue color.
This is probably one of my favorites of the day, if not my favorite.

I walked through a drizzly beech forest on a certain summer day.
As the forest proceeds to the back, many of the trees are attractive
Become a mysterious primeval forest and the charm is deepened

The fog has been repeatedly shaded to make the forest fantastically
Wrapping, the leaves are dyed in pale green.
There is no sound stood in the Forest of silence itself
I feel the time and space to listen to the sound
To the body, and to appreciate the joy of it.
