The current cathedral is built on the site of at least two previous structures dedicated to Finbarr of Cork. The first dated from the 7th century, with works continuing through the 12th century. This building was damaged during the Siege of Cork (1690), and a new structure was built in 1735 - though elements of the earlier spire were retained.
This structure remained until the 1860s, when a competition for the building of a new larger cathedral was held 1862. In February 1863, the designs of the architect William Burges was declared the winner of the competition to build a new cathedral of St Fin Barre. His diary records his reaction - "Got Cork!" - whilst the cathedral accounts record the payment of the winning prize sum of £100. Building work took seven years before the first service was held in the cathedral in 1870. Building, carving and decoration continued into the 20th century, long after Burges's death in 1881.
The style of the building is Early French, Burges's favoured period and a style he continued to favour throughout his life, choosing it for his own home, The Tower House, in Kensington. The stipulated price for construction was to be £15,000, a sum vastly exceeded. The total cost came to significantly over £100,000. Burges was "unconcerned" (his own words) in his letter of January 1877 to the Bishop of Cork: "(In the future) the whole affair will be on its trial and, the elements of time and cost being forgotten, the result only will be looked at. The great questions will then be, first, is this work beautiful and, secondly, have those to whom it was entrusted, done it with all their heart and all their ability."
Burges oversaw all aspects of the design, including the architecture of the building, the statuary, the stained glass and the internal decoration. The result is "undoubtedly Burges's greatest work in ecclesiastical architecture".

Known as "Frank's little party in the desert," Barbara and Frank Sinatra founded the Frank Sinatra Celebrity Invitational in 1988 to raise funds for the Barbara Sinatra Center for Abused Children at Eisenhower Medical Center, which opened in 1986. Through their efforts, and those of supporters throughout the world, the Frank Sinatra Starkey Hearing Technologies Celebrity Invitational is now one of the most successful events of it's kind.
The mission of the Barbara Sinatra Center for Abused Children is to provide counseling for victims of physical, sexual and emotional abuse and to focus on prevention, community education and breaking the generational cycle of abuse. The Frank Sinatra Starkey Hearing Technologies Celebrity Invitational is a five (5) player team gross and net scramble golf tournament held at Eagle Falls Golf Course in Indio, California. The Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, also in Indio, is the tournament's hotel and venue for three nights of parties and a spectacular luncheon and fashion show.
One (1) celebrity and four (4) contestants are a team. The team of four (4) amateur players remains together for two (2) consecutive days. The celebrity contestant changes teams for the second day. Current USGA handicaps are verified and applied to all contestants.

Spring Bear Creek Cleanup 4/13/18: Despite a chilly and rainy start over 120 dedicated volunteers arrived at Bear Creek Park and nearly filled a 40 yard dumpster with trash and debris they removed from Bear Creek Park and the shoreline of this historic stream as well as from Bear Creek Elementary School, General John Stricker Middle School, Charlesmont Elementary School and Charlesmont Park totaling over 3 tons!!! This included 290 bags of trash, two metal chairs, a poker table, a shopping cart, a trampoline and a toilet more, Thank you everyone so very much for all your hard work on such a beautiful day! Our volunteer’s dedication to working toward a cleaner, greener, healthier community and environment is wonderful sight to behold!!!! Thank you everyone so very much for all your incredible hard work under such tough conditions! Cluny Abbey, dedicated to St Peter, is a former Benedictine monastery built in the Romanesque style, with three churches built in succession from the 4th to the early 12th centuries. The earliest basilica was the world's largest church until the St. Peter's Basilica construction began in Rome. Cluny was founded by William I, Duke of Aquitaine in 910. The abbey was notable for its stricter adherence to the Rule of St. Benedict, whereby Cluny became acknowledged as the leader of western monasticism. The establishment of the Benedictine Order was a keystone to the stability of European society that was achieved in the 11th century. In 1790 during the French Revolution, the abbey was sacked and mostly destroyed, with only a small part of the Abbey surviving. The political and religious wars of the 16th century weakened the abbey's status in Christendom. For instance with the Concordat of Bologna in 1516 overseen by Antoine Duprat, Francis I, the king of France, gained the power to appoint the abbot of Cluny from Pope Leo X. Over the next 250 years, the abbey never regained its power or position within European Christianity. Seen as an example of the excesses of the Ancien Régime, the monastic buildings and most of the church were destroyed in the French Revolution. Its extensive library and archives were burned in 1793 and the church was given up to plundering. The abbey's estate was sold in 1798 and over the next twenty years the Abbey's immense walls were quarried for stone that was used in rebuilding the town. Although it was the largest church in Christendom until the completion of Rome's St. Peter's Basilica in the early 17th Century, little remains of the original buildings. In total the surviving parts amount to about 10% of the original floor space of Cluny III. These include the southern transept and its bell-tower. In 1928, the site was excavated by the American archaeologist Kenneth J. Conant with the backing of the Medieval Academy of America. Ruined bases of columns convey the size of the former church and monastery.

U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor crew chiefs assigned to the 90th Fighter, 477th Fighter, and 3rd Aircraft Maintenance Squadrons are recognized during a Dedicated Crew Chief Ceremony held on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Oct. 23, 2015. During the ceremony crew chiefs were recognized for their dedication and hard work. Every F-22 Raptor has a dedicated crew chief assigned who is trusted with the care and maintenance of the jet. At the ceremony the Airmen received a coin from their respective commanders, a certificate certifying them as dedicated crew chiefs, and new maintenance overalls to designate them as dedicated crew chiefs while working on the flight line. A compound for California Army National Guard special forces and special operations soldiers is dedicated in memory of U.S. Army Maj. Rocco M. Barnes, during a ceremony, May 18, 2018, at Joint Forces Training Base, Los Alamitos, California. Barnes, who was assigned to the Tactical Command Post 3, 40th Infantry Division, California National Guard, was serving in support of the U.S. Marine Corps as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, when he was killed June 4, 2009, in Afghanistan. The Ancient Order of Hibernians honors the members of the Molly Maguires who were hanged at the jail for their alleged involvement in violence and murder as a result of exploitative conditions in the Pennsylvania coal region. Some of those conditions: Boys as young as 10 were put to work in the mines as breakers (breaking up the larger pieces of coal), or stationed at ventilation doors, or put in charge of the mules that carried the coal out of the mines for as little as 45 cents day. Miners were forced to purchase their own tools, explosives, lamps and hire their own crews. Though a doctor was on hand, the miners paid $1.50 out of their meager pay each week for medical care. Miners did not own their own homes. If a miner was killed, his body was laid on his doorstep; if his wife did not find someone to work for her in two days, she and her family were evicted.
