A thin place is where the veil that separates heaven and earth is lifted and one is able to receive a glimpse of the glory of God. A contemporary poet Sharlande Sledge gives this description.
“Thin places,” the Celts call this space,
Both seen and unseen,
Where the door between the world
And the next is cracked open for a moment
And the light is not all on the other side.

Commentary.
Steyning is a town at the northern end of the Adur Gap through the South Downs.
The town dates back to Saxon times over 1,000 years ago.
The Parish Church, originally dedicated to St. Cuthman,
eventually became jointly dedicated to St. Andrew.
Nearby Bramber Castle was built following the Norman invasion and acted as a defence against invasion from
south or north through the Adur valley.
Trade and religious disputes soured the relationship between
Bramber and Steyning for several centuries.
In the 14th. Century the River Adur began to silt up causing
the loss of trade and population to both places.
In 1614, the Alderman of Chichester founded Steyning
Grammar School, in Church Street, just off the High Street.
This Jacobean building still stands today, but the main school
is now sited at the northern end of the town.
The railway linking Guildford to Shoreham via Steyning
opened in 1861, but fell foul to the infamous Beeching cuts of the 1960’s.
The rail route has been preserved as a foot, bridle and cycle way, known as the Downs Link.
The Old Town Hall built in 1886 is now an Estate Agents.
Agriculture, brewing, tanning and brickmaking formed
the core of the economy in the late 19th. Century.
Today the town has three pubs, a good variety of shops,
a Health Centre, Public Library and Museum.
The Leisure Centre, including a swimming pool, was funded by the National Lottery.
Steyning Grammar School is now a comprehensive
serving 2,500 pupils from a wide area.
There is also a Primary School and Pre-School.
The town has cricket, football and athletic clubs.
Its prized architecture includes Tudor, Stuart, Georgian and Victorian buildings as well as 20th. and 21st. century developments.
The High Street’s main landmark is the tile-hung Clock-Tower.
The town hosts many walkers on the nearby South Downs
and day-trippers making for the coast, a few miles to the south.

Dedicated to my mother-in-law, who passed away just a few hours before I took this picture as I was talking to my wife who called me to tell me about her death.
Dedicated in 112, the Forum of Trajan was the last of the Imperial Fora, a series of public spaces adjacent to the Roman Forum dedicated by and to later emperors. Trajan's Forum included a large basilica, two libraries, two exedrae, a temple to the deified Trajan, and a large column commemorating the emperor's victory over the Dacians, with a statue of the emperor at the top.
Seen here is the eastern exedra, one of two flanking the large central square. According to some accounts it was used as a space for schools, called the schola fori traiani in Late Antiquity.

A road down to Kiplingcotes in the Yorkshire Wolds shot just after sunrise
I have dedicated this shot to English painter David Hockney in thanks for all his work over the last forty years. In particular for the work he has completed in the last four years, painting in oils , watercolour and I pad in the Yorkshire Wolds. Most of you will know that he was based for years in LA his swimming pool pictures were particularly well known. About five years ago for family reasons he came back to Yorkshire and based himself in Bridlington. Since then he has worked with amazing energy capturing the landscapes of the Wolds. He took his paint and easels outside even in mid winter to paint in natural light. The work in this period is stunning full of life and vitality
If you live in England you cannot have missed publicity about his major exhibition “A Bigger Picture” at the Royal academy in London. He has used all twelve rooms in the academy for the show so it’s a very large exhibition which is already a sell out I believe. The majority of the work in the exhibition is of his recent work in Yorkshire there are some examples of his earlier output including The Grand Canyon and Mulholland Drive.
Apart from the appreciation of his art what pleases me personally is that the latest works celebrates the countryside I know best. I have walked and travelled through the Wolds that stretch from the Humber to the coast North of Bridlington all my life. The area is not much visited and a little remote but I have always loved the quiet beauty of the Wolds now Mr Hockney has shown the world the magic of the place. (Just hope all the world does not descend on the East Riding , I rather like the quiet)

Dedicated in 330 BCE (replacing two earlier temples that were destroyed by earthquake), this was the center of worship at Delphi and the place where the oracle made her oracular pronouncements. As a pagan site, it was torn down in 390 CE under the Byzantines. Archaeologists have reassembled a few of the columns.

Ganz konzentriert hatte ich ein total anderes Motiv im Visier, als plötzlich und völlig unerwartet, der Graureiher wie aus dem Nichts auftauchte.
Blitzschnell machte ich eine Drehung um ca 45°und versuchte den Reiher einzufangen.......mit der Kamera natürlich........
Leider konnte ich nicht mehr herausholen.

Venice (Italian: Venezia [veˈnɛttsja] ( listen), Venetian: Venesia) is a city in northern Italy known both for tourism and for industry, and is the capital of the region Veneto, with a population of about 272,000 (census estimate 1 January 2004). Together with Padua, the city is included in the Padua-Venice Metropolitan Area (population 1,600,000).
The name is derived from the ancient tribe of Veneti that inhabited the region in Roman times.[1][2] The city historically was the capital of an independent city-state. Venice has been known as the "La Dominante", "Serenissima", "Queen of the Adriatic", "City of Water", "City of Masks", "City of Bridges", "The Floating City", and "City of Canals". Luigi Barzini, writing in The New York Times, described it as "undoubtedly the most beautiful city built by man".[3] Venice has also been described by the Times Online as being one of Europe's most romantic cities.[4]
The city stretches across 117 small islands in the marshy Venetian Lagoon along the Adriatic Sea in northeast Italy. The saltwater lagoon stretches along the shoreline between the mouths of the Po (south) and the Piave (north) Rivers. The population estimate of 272,000 inhabitants includes the population of the whole Comune of Venezia; around 60,000[5] in the historic city of Venice (Centro storico); 176,000 in Terraferma (the Mainland), mostly in the large frazioni of Mestre and Marghera; and 31,000 live on other islands in the lagoon.
The Republic of Venice was a major maritime power during the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and a staging area for the Crusades and the Battle of Lepanto, as well as a very important center of commerce (especially silk, grain and spice trade) and art in the 13th century up to the end of the 17th century. This made Venice a wealthy city throughout most of its history.[6] It is also known for its several important artistic movements, especially the Renaissance period. Venice has played an important role in the history of symphonic and operatic music, and it is the birthplace of Antonio Vivaldi.

Dedicated to Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputy Eugene Kostiuchenko who was tragically killed by a drunk driver. Kostiuchenko, 41, was killed on Oct. 28, 2014 when he was struck by a car on the 101 Freeway near Lewis Road in Camarillo, CA. Deputy Kostiuchenko had just finished a traffic stop and was returning to his vehicle when he was hit by the car.
Under the leadership of Police Chief Jeri Williams, the Oxnard Police Department employs 254 sworn officers and 158 civilian support personnel. The crime rate today is at its lowest level in decades. The Department promotes a community-based policing philosophy, and has embraced prevention and intervention strategies in policing the city.
