dedicated to Jewelery !!!

(A pair of beads made from Nassarius shells that are approximately 100,000 years old are thought to be the first known examples of jewelery .. thanx google :))

This is dedicated to my dear friend I met in South Africa, Gabi.

The tree is a very special tree and is known to the local Shaman for it's powers. Maria Khosa is a Shangaan shaman and highly respected in the area and holds ceremonies under this tree.

On 10th November 1991, a group of white South Africans (including Linda Tucker) became stranded at night in the open bush in Timbavati and became surrounded in the dark by a pride of angry lions looking for a kill. After several hours of the lions circling them and the growing fear that engulfed them, they had given up their fate to never seeing daylight again as the lions became more and more intense.

Eventually when they were close to death, out of the dark emerged a figure walking slowly towards them with a baby on her back and a child at her side. It was Maria and she walked straight through the pride of lions to the stranded people. She was in a trance and she calmed the lions which allowed one of the party to run back for help. A few years later, Linda had met with Maria and Maria (through an interpreter) had said that she had heard them calling and so talked to the lion's ancestors and they spoke to the lions to let her through safely.

Well there is much more to the story but this is a very condensed version!

There is much peace to be had around this area and you can sit under trees like this for hours with total relaxation. A feeling to treasure for me that you cannot photograph.

"Darling be Home Soon"

Come

And talk of all the things we did today

Here

And laugh about our funny little ways

While we have a few minutes to breathe

Then I know that it's time you must leave

But darling be home soon

I couldn't bear to wait an extra minute if you dawdled

My darling be home soon

It's not just these few hours but I've been waiting since I toddled

For the great relief of having you to talk to

And now

A quarter of my life is almost past

I think I've come to see myself at last

And I see that the time spent confused

Was the time that I spent without you

And I feel myself in bloom

So darling be home soon

I couldn't bear to wait an extra minute if you dawdled

My darling be home soon

It's not just these few hours but I've been waiting since I toddled

For the great relief of having you to talk to

Go

And beat your crazy head against the sky

Try

And see beyond the houses and your eyes

It's ok to shoot the moon

So darling be home soon

I couldn't bear to wait an extra minute if you dawdled

My darling be home soon

It's not just these few hours but I've been waiting since I toddled

For the great relief of having you to talk to

Since I first took the Staten Island Ferry to get to Manhattan I wanted to get a good picture of the new Whitehall Ferry Terminal (opened in 2005) with some of the skyscrapers of Manhattan in the background. This is the first one I really like (thanks to the Sigma 10-20mm).

Limni, Northern Evia. (About a 3 hour drive from Athens). (ΠΑΜΕ ΠΛΑΤΕΙΑ)

My English wife Theresa Jane Brown and I were invited by friends to visit them there for the weekend Feb. 1-2.

It was a rainy and cold weekend, but none the less we had a great time.

The island of Evia lies along the Eastern coast of Central Greece, and is accessible to the mainland via two bridges, an old wooden bridge and a contemporary suspension bridge. There are also frequent ferries to several parts of the island. It is 175 km long and is the second largest island in Greece, and the third largest in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The church in Ochtiná was formerly dedicated to St. Nicholas and is one of the oldest and most interesting landmarks of the Gemer countryside. The name of the village is most likely derived from the old German expression for the number eight: ocht, as an evidence of the area settled by German guests in the second half of the 13th century. According to historical sources, original eight German families established here a prosperous settlement founded on mining of iron ore located in the nearby Hrádok hill.

However, the layout of the church point to an older settlement which could have been destroyed during a Mongol invasion. This is indicated by a document from the king Belo IV, from 1243, by which he donates a large part of an area of the Slaná river valley for faithful services to Detrik and Filip Bubek. In 1318, Ochtiná was mentioned as a property of the Štítnik branch of the Bubek family, that certainly supported the construction of the local church and later its murals as well.

The Gothic church, built possibly on the site of a ruined Romanesque structure is a single-nave church with a polygonal-shaped chancel including a northern sacristy. Around the mid-14th century, the interiors were painted with figural wall paintings which were done by fresco technique. Research has shown that the tower had been built later, probably in second half of 15th century. Romanesque windows on the tower are secondarily used from other church in the area. At the beginning of the 16th century, the relatively small space of the church was extended with a northern side nave having a star-shaped vault.

In the first third of the 17th century, when the church was already Lutheran, medieval frescos were hidden under a white lime paint and, during the 18th century, the church was given a new Prussian vault over the nave.

The present sanctuary was dedicated in 1887 after being located in four other locations around downtown Macon. The Sanctuary contains many interested Christian symbols to enhance our worship. Among them: the presence of the trefoil (a symbol of the Trinity); the presence of the quatrefoil (a traditional Christian symbol of 4 overlapping circles); a beautiful stained-glass rose window; and 12 beautiful stained-glass windows depicting the life of Jesus. Also of architectural note, the inside of the sanctuary roof is shaped like an upside-down ship’s hull, using the traditional Christian symbol of a boat to reflect that safety and sanctuary can be found in this holy space.

Beneath the sanctuary is the Great Room, a smaller gathering place and home to the Faithful Followers Sunday School Department. It was christened “The Great Room” in 2004, after a renovation, in appreciation of “The Greatest Generation,” the older members of FBCX who given their time, resources, and talents through the years to make First Baptist a place of worship, discipleship, missions and fellowship.
