Dedicated to the firefighters putting their lives on the line in the recent Los Angeles fire disasters; LAFD, of course, but many from other states and countries, California incarcerated firefighters, Canadians, South Africans, and Mexican firefighters. The tremendously skilled and courageous pilots. And all those from places I did not mention. No one that has not done this work understands the exertion, the exhaustion, the pain and fear, the determination, and the comradeship of these men and women.
Thank you.
I had another weird CTD today... facelight started flickering like a disco club light show... textures stretching all over the screen... so weird.
Well, at least I managed to print a few before I was sent to desktop.
Dedicated to my good friend, one of the best, to be more precise ;)
Dedicated to all my US friends caught up in the current deep freeze and snow cyclones. Getting 15" of snow when you usually get none is no joke! Stay safe, stay warm.
We can't all be as comfortable on ice and snow as this Adelie Penguin, riding down its own penguin highway on Yalour Island, Antarctica.

We had the wonderful opportunity to cruise along the Antarctic Peninsula for several days, landing on islands, cruising bays, and trekking on the continent itself. More pics to come......

Excerpt from the plaque: In 1892, Thomas Burgess donated land for the construction of the Bala Church. This church was used by the Presbyterian, Methodist, and Anglican congregations. Between 1920 and 1925, the Anglicans and the Presbyterians decided to build their own churches. The Bala Church was renamed Bala United Church. In 1934, the church was destroyed by fire, and replaced with the current brick church that was dedicated in May 1935.

Take care and have a nice weekend.
While attempting to take a picture the camera slipped giving me this blur. I really liked the results when I pulled it up on the computer. Thanks Jen, I do hope you enjoy this too!
This is my 2000th image on flickr. Over the past few days I was actually thinking about which picture to upload to celebrate the occasion. When I walked past these tree trunks, neatly stacked and peeled and obviously marked with the flickr colors the choice was made.

The Parthenon, dedicated by the Athenians to Athena Parthenos, the patron of their city, is the most magnificent creation of Athenian democracy at the height of its power. It is also the finest monument on the Acropolis in terms of both conception and execution. Built between 447 and 438 BC, as part of the greater Periklean building project, this so-called Periklean Parthenon (Parthenon III) replaced an earlier marble temple (Parthenon II), begun after the victory at the battle of Marathon at approximately 490 BC and destroyed by the Persians in 480 BC. This temple had replaced the very first Parthenon (Parthenon I) of c. 570 BC. The Periklean Parthenon was designed by architects Iktinos and Kallikrates, while the sculptor Pheidias supervised the entire building program and conceived the temple's sculptural decoration and chryselephantine statue of Athena.
