this was a shot taken handheld with no flash merely just to show what a nightmare i came across.
Unbelieveably this was after i had told the owner to declutter!
Needless to say, i don't get paid enough to sort this one out.

Vintage Chinese brass opium pipe. Years ago I owned a heavier, sturdier Chinese brass opium pipe but I foolishly sold it when trying to declutter my belongings. It must have been used years ago but it was so clean that no residue was left. One local antique dealer told me that he is able to legally sell a variety of old ganga or opium pipes, but only if there is no residue or scent from their previous use. This came to me through international mail. CBSA had opened the parcel to confirm that there were no drugs. I’m going to eventually sell this unused pipe as I have no use for it.

You may not want to think about it, but bringing back bed bugs from your holiday travels could ruin an otherwise festive holiday season. Yes, I know, one more thing to do during this hectic time of year, but bed bugs in your home can be expensive and wear on your mind and body so deal with it now to keep your sanity later.
Plan on staying at a hotel or other commercial lodging? Keep luggage off the floor and if there is not a raised luggage rack, set your suitcase in the bathtub to keep it off carpeted areas. Before going to sleep, do a quick check along the bed seams for any signs of bed bugs themselves or their droppings or shed skin. Consider traveling with the extra large zip-close storage bags for storing your dirty laundy in your luggage. Wash soiled clothing soon after arriving home or if you will not be able to take care of this immediately, leave the luggage in the garage until you can get to it. If you have clothing that was not worn/clean, you can place in the dryer for 15 minutes on high. The heat will take care of any pests that might have hitched a ride home. Carefully inspect all other items your brought back from traveling before putting them away in your home.
Once you are home, here are some tips for discouraging bed bug infestations.
Do:
Declutter your home as much as possible
Protect your bed mattress and box spring with mattress encasement specific for bed bugs
Vacuum often
check all cracks and crevices around the rooms: mattress and box spring seams, baseboards, furniture and any other areas around the room where bugs can hide.
Wash clothing and linens in hot water and dry on a high setting.
Don’t:
store clothes, shoes and other items under beds unless enclosed in sealed storage bins
forget to check your purse and backpack as well after traveling
bring in second hand items with thoroughly inspecting and cleaning them
assume bed bugs are only in beds
assume one treatment will clear up all bed bug issues. Beg bugs may have been in your home a while and it is not uncommon for it to take more than one visit to find all areas they may be hiding and eliminate them.
Bed bugs are active mainly at night. They feed on exposed bare skin while you are sleeping. Most bed bug bites are relatively painless however one way to tell if they are bed bugs, is they will leave a linear trail of bites. This is due to the fact they do not jump or fly but crawl. You may or may not wake up with itchy welts on your skin and sometimes no marks at all but you will probably see the rusty or reddish spotting or staining they leave behind after feeding overnight.
Most people don’t know bed bugs can live for several months without a blood meal. Bed bugs can travel from mattresses to furniture to other areas around your home. Bed bugs can hide in furniture for a long time until they are near a human host again. This is why it is important to not just treat the mattress but the room as well. If you are removing and replacing the mattress entirely, be sure to encase the mattress before dragging it through the home to take it outside. This is to avoid bed bugs from scattering and infiltrating other areas of your home along the way.
In your mattress, you may see droppings, shed skin or the bed bugs themselves but remember, bed bugs can infest furniture with small dark crevices as well. If you are unsure of what pest you may have, you can save one of the pests you find using clear packing tape attached to an index card for easier identification by your pest control professional.
Remember, no need to throw everything out. Early identification and professional bed bug treatment can save the added cost of replacing beds or furniture.
If you think you may have a bed bug issue, call or contact Bio-Tech Pest Control at 281-296-6022.

I am desperately trying to declutter and tidy our house. Was having a go at the bathroom today and found this, so sent a picture to our family WhatsApp group to see if anyone used it or not so I could dispose of it. Both girls said no and then Lola said she thought that Dad might - he is bald, helpful. I am trying to get rid/recycle/charity bag at least one thing per day.
MIL is coming for five days. We have a tiny house, which means when company comes, I give my study up as a guest room (and I can't really complain about that b/c I am fortunate to even have a room of my own - dh uses part of our master bedroom as his study). My study has been in transition for about three months now, as I'm slowly redoing it. It is not done yet, and I've been living in chaos and mass disorganization (worse than usual) for awhile now. But I couldn't have it like that for MIL. So in addition to cleaning the house, planning menus, buying groceries, and just generally stressing about her visit, I attempted a major organizing and cleaning of my study (which is also my craft space).
I have learned the following:
1 - I have a lot of great projects either on the needles are ready for the needles that are going to be so awesome if I ever get to them.
2 - Judging from the amount of these projects, I'm guessing this will happen around 2011 at the earliest.
3 - I have a ridiculous amount of fabric for someone who currently sews almost none. Half of the fabric I'm not wild about, the other half I am mad for.
4 - Throwing things I don't know what to do with into my closet is a temporary solution at best.
5 - Moving all of that stuff from the closet into a big box that's now on my bedroom floor is probably only a temporary solution as well.
6 - It's possible my number one organization problem is indecision. I can't decide what to do with something, so I end up not dealing with it effectively or at all.
7 - for someone so disorganized and lazy, I can do a pretty bang-up job of cleaning up - once the pressure's really on

This is the main Workstation. It is an Ikea L shaped table. The plastic storage drawers are under the table.
At the far right corner, I have piled up the wire racks that can be hooked to any shelf.

Lots and lots of it. This is not even all of it. I have so many more boxes to go through! I want to find loving homes for everything. And, yes, I am charging shipping and such. Some stuff here will be tossed in as freebies with other purchases. I'll have a full list and mini site for it all later.
feel free to email declutter@jenncutter.com if there's something you want to make an offer on right now.

Desk, post decluttering. Note that I didn't manage to declutter the cat (though he's done some crash decluttering himself from time to time).
I am in Niagara and have been for a bit. I've been tending to my mom's home during the first four days here (redecorating the dining and living rooms, patching up and helping to declutter.) The work I promised to tackle is done and now we are set to unwind, visit, and take the boys around to places we knew when we were kids. I took my sons to Fort George National Historic Park in NotL yesterday as a start on my search to meet the challenge posed to me during my Get Pushed assignment. Fort George is significant as a point of conflict in the War of 1812, know as the Napoleonic Wars in the rest of the world, wherein the US failed in its one and only attempt to to put its doctrine of "manifest destiny" into practice into effect over British North America.

ADD & paper clutter seem to go hand in hand and I've been buried under it for a long time. Every time we sit down to eat at the dinner table, we have to push some papers off to one side, or take one pile and put it on top of another pile, or move a pile (or two) from the table to some other place that it will clutter up. No, I'm not proud of this. I hate it. It is very stressful. But every time I try to put some sort of organization in place, it seems to fail. I got cube organizers with fabric bins and that helped A LOT because a lot of the stuff that built up "To File" could just get slipped into a cubbie. It wasn't perfect, but it was a major improvement. The problem is that we just have so much paper coming into the house that really needed to be organized in some logical & safe way (like financial stuff) or the boy's schoolwork (I want to keep samples to document his progress) or artwork that I really want to keep.
I spent a LONG time going through piles today. Lots of scanning. Lots of throwing out. Lots of shredding. I'm not done. Once I've tackled all the visible paper clutter there are those fabric bins and desk drawers and file folders. But damn, it's almost like I can breath again. And that feels really good.
