bit.ly/1hPpbRsDuring my school years I remember being an easy target because I was picked on a lot by the other kids. It got harder and harder for me to go to school, but I finally finished high school in 2007. I had no future plans and remained home with my family for the next three years. I spent most of that time on the computer playing games.
My mom and I talked and decided it was time to call and get some professional help. I got involved with Community Mental Health and they helped me create a personal plan to learn better social skills, think about my future plans and to make money.
When I came to Goodwill Industries of St. Clair County my life started to get better. I felt more comfortable and began making friends and receiving a steady paycheck. I had good supervisors and great co-workers that helped me come out of my shell. I learned janitorial duties and how to assemble parts in a production workshop
Goodwill taught me how important it is to be on time, how to follow a schedule, how to get along with others and to improve my communication skills.
I was honored when my co-workers elected me to represent them in our monthly client delegate meetings. This was an opportunity to address everyday work concerns with Goodwill board members and staff. I felt like I was an important part here at Goodwill.
As my self-esteem increased, my counselor suggested Goodwill place me in a short-term work trial at a local grocery store to see if I was ready to work in the community. I was so happy that it went well.
Not long after, I was able to find work at a local grocery store in my community. I was hired part-time as a courtesy clerk; my duties are bagging groceries, back stocking and getting grocery carts. Presently I feel my life is so much fuller. I have higher self-esteem and now enjoy meeting new people.
At my job I receive a weekly paycheck. I have opened my own bank account, and am learning to budget my money. In my free time, I enjoy reading and shopping.
Because of Goodwill, I now feel confident about making future plans that I never dreamed of. I plan to get my driver’s license, go to college and study computers, and to live on my own.

march 11, 2007 -
his & hers brekkies.
this photo proves how much we REALLY need to buy a new dining table!
we eat on the coffee table in the living room so often that i've put a table cloth and placemats there and we just go for it. it's become that place in the house where everything ends up- mail, dvds, cds, random boxes, phones, newspapers, remotes, etc. it's time to reorganize our living space and declutter!
as you can tell- i got the diet portion of frenchies with lite syrup, and he got the huge portion complete with lots of bacon and gobs of melted butter. ahhh, to be a guy with a slim waist and ridiculously fast metabolism :P

When it comes to aesthetically pleasing architectural works, wood has become the preferred choice because of its affordability and design. One such work or platform is the decking. Your own decking will be the heart and foundation for social gatherings, from the usual Sunday family brunches to special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, and weddings.
And with social gatherings come the unpredictability of human interaction: desegregated trash, spills of various liquids, the inevitable wear and tear of the wood itself (not to mention the pesky termites), etc. With all these external factors that could ruin your beautiful and memorable gathering spot, maintaining and cleaning your decking is a must.
One may think that the good ol’ soap and scrub method could solve every cleaning issue. However, a decking is more sensitive and complicated than you think. Below are the materials and steps to properly clean a deck.
Materials:
Gloves
You’ll need to suit up your hands with gloves to give you a good grip when doing the cleaning. They’ll also provide protection from blisters and wounds.
Broom
You have to make sure that the smallest of dust bunnies and the bigger piles of leftovers are swept away before you do any scrubbing.
Bucket
This makes a good container for water and soap cleaners.
Mask
You don’t need to get a gas mask; just get one that’ll protect you from allergens so as not to awaken that roaring rhinitis.
Hose/Spray
A bucket is helpful, but for a wide decking, making sure to rid it off of soap requires a lot of water.
Assorted Brushes
Opt for those with stiff bristles to effectively remove hard-etched stains.
Deck Cleaner Chemicals
You just need to get oxygen/household bleach.
Steps:
1. Declutter your decking
Stowaway prized possessions and delicate objects to protect them from being damaged. Segregate and separate the trash.
But before starting cleanup duty, gear up first by putting on the mask and gloves.
2. Scrape and sweep
Sweep off dirt on the flooring using the broom or let your vacuum cleaner do the job. Look for any traces of moss and mould and carefully scrape off, especially on hard-to-see areas. Do another sweep again to remove excess dirt from the brushing and scraping.
3. Rub and scrub
With your bucket, you can now mix a cleaning solution that could help clean the decking thoroughly. Oxygen bleach with sodium bicarbonate is advisable for wood decking, due to its effective formula for organic stains and mould.
Organic laundry detergent works well, too. Avoid using chlorine bleach (sodium hypochlorite) as it could pose health risks such as skin, eye, and lung irritation.
With the solution and the brush, scrub the top part, going down in intervals. Rinse thoroughly after each scrub. The water hose works perfectly and efficiently for faster rinsing.
4. Let dry for a day or two (or more)
Leave your deck after cleaning it for a day to make sure it dries. See if there are any areas you have missed with your scrubbing. If you’re pleased with the results, let it dry for 3 days to 1 week.
To preserve the overall lifespan and quality of your decking, make sure to clean it at least twice a year. Make sure the drying time is long enough to leave a natural look for the wood.

Nova of love have finally found a home. No more fabric petals all over the house. Now I have a designated space for it. I bought a countertop (well I think it's actually a door or something) from as-is (IKEA) for $2 and Antonius frames and drawers and wire bins. Total cost for the desk and some storage boxes was not more than $50. I thought that was pretty awesome.
Wishes my living room, with it's blue sofa, could look something like this: www.flickr.com/photos/sosylvie/145380965/ So, beautiful!
Prospective color scheme:
Blue, yellow, soft pink and wood accents
To do:
*Declutter
*Set up sewing machine & crafting area
*Make new yellow curtains
*Make yellow pillows or make a cover the green one in yellow fabric.
*Bring plant back to life/repot (ha!)
*Hang mirror and art
*Buy a rug? [not sure since I will be crafting in this area and it can get messy}
*Bar stools
*Fabric on the short wall under the bar
Day 45: Sun Feb 14
I love having fresh flowers in the condo. They add a certain brightness, cheer, and life to the space. Flowers motivate me to declutter and clean so I can have a magazine worthy home.
Valentine's Day is definitely dominated by roses... and while I like roses very much, I have to admit that I adore baby's breath. Humble and delicate, baby's breath reminds me of raw beauty - like picking wildflowers in a field on a warm summer morning type of beauty - and I actually wouldn't mind receiving a big bunch of the little white flowers all on their own.
Anyway, it's late and I'm probably being more melodramatic than I need to be so I'll head to bed now. Hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day! If you're interested, you can read a little about mine here.

busy, busy day full of cleaning, babysitting, and bible study. i got these shelves (to the right) for my clothes to try and declutter my room. it is working thus far!
It's that time again.......time to get the house cleared of all the post Christmas clutter. There seems to be more than ever this year with all the boxes from Jacks new toys to be taken to the recycling centre.
It is one of my resolutions this year to get the house cleared of all the little bits of clutter that annoy the hell out of me and make it so hard to find stuff. I am a self confessed hoarder but I must admit I always feel a bit better after a good old clear out.
Today’s items were gleaned from all over the house over the weekend. I combined the 2 days as we had been out and about. I had intended on concentrating on one room at a time, but as I was up in the loft I found a couple of bits and also some in the spare bedroom that I’m trying to tidy up ready for my 6-month old grandson to stay tomorrow.
From top left:
A giant Nemo balloon that has lost its buoyancy. We bought this for the baby, but the gas has nearly all gone and he doesn’t float any more. This I will have to pop and see if I can use any of the bits in my crafting. If not it will have to go in the rubbish bag.
A black panther soft toy. This I found in a bag in the loft. It’s not needed so I will give it to the charity we support for their soft toy tombola in November.
I also found the other soft toy with it, so that will also go to the charity.
A metal tin. Useful to put things in, but I have hundreds of such receptacles! My mum will have this, she’s always after more storage containers.
A babies’ names book. My daughter had this before she had the baby, and we don’t need it now. I will take this along to Oxfam.
A ‘chick novel’ – this has been read by me and my daughter, so we don’t want to hang on to it. I will take this along to Oxfam too.
A lavender bag that has lost its smell. It is made really nicely, but as it has no smell it isn’t much use. I will put this in the textile recycling bag.
A sympathy card with CD. I bought this earlier in the year as an emergency card, but I managed to make one so I don’t need this one any more. I will take this to Oxfam.
A velvet type scarf. This was a birthday present from someone a few years ago. I have never worn it as I don’t really wear scarves, so I’ll take it along to Oxfam as well.
A fun bag. I bought this in Marbella, Spain, as I needed something on the spur of the moment. Used it for one week then it got relegated into the loft. I will put this on Freecycle.
That concludes the weekend’s finds. A few more unwanted things gone from the house and it is beginning to look a bit tidier!
This was an interesting shoot. I had all of 45 minutes to shoot the home. I wont go into the details of the situation but that what was handed to me; get it done in this amount of time or else... oh, and produce some good images.
I was frantic in the beginning but I settled into a rhythm and was able to shoot the entire house within the time frame. I used no flash in any of the images, it is all ambient with a good amount of PS work to add light. Thankfully the interior lighting in the home was plenty and it was a great time of day to shoot.
My only nitpick was the front exterior was still under construction and therefore there was plastic over the front door, so I was unable to even expose for the exterior then layer it back in. Oh ya, I couldn't touch anything to declutter the rooms... man there were so many rules for this home.

This was probably brought into the country as someone's "duty free", probably before the UK joined the Common Market. I know we gave it to the prof's sister before we went to America for a year in 1977 and we had to clear our house out. Unfortunately she gave it back when we returned! It is some sort of "bitters" and has never been opened.
Perhaps we should take the top off and, very carefully, sniff the contents?
PS - Later - Perhaps it has been opened. It smells like brown sugar. Google suggests cocktail recipes which use it. You can add it to coca-cola, but we don't drink coca-cola!

[caption id="attachment_1343" align="alignleft" width="240" caption="Hair Dryer Holder"] [/caption]
A hair dryer holder is the perfect accessory to a good hair dryer because it is really convenient and declutters your room in instant. Not only that but it can effectively become your second or third hand. Some people call it their styling assistant, or styling extension, and with good reason.
Hair blow dryers are an everyday accessory that people simply can't be without. If you only want to dry your hair on the quick, it is perfect. If you also want to style your hair using a hair dryer and a comb, it is perfect for that as well. People are using it for one or the other every day. This is why a hair dryer holder is such a popular tool in many households and of course, in most respectable professional hair salons.
Here are the two main types of Hair Dryer Holder available on the market today:
Hair Dryer Stand
You can easily mount the hair dryer stand on the wall (wall mount), or if you don't want to drill holes in your wall, you can have the type that can be placed on the floor or on your counter or desk.
It can practically hold any types of hair blow dryers, including narrow or quite ones, including compact and portable hair dryers.
It is very flexible, allowing a wide angle tilting in any direction of your choosing.
It can easily give a steam of hot air without the need of actually holding it. If you have problems with movement (such as arthritis) or strength in your hands, this is for you.
It is quite durable and can last you for a long time
Hair Dryer Storage Holder
This is more than just a stand, it can hold many other hair styling accessories and it is usually either an elegant tall box or a fancy metal coil.
Metal baskets or plastic baskets which have the property of deflecting heat coming from the blow dryer. You can additionally store a curling iron or some other hair styling or hair care accessories in them, such as being also the perfect curling iron holder, flat iron holder or hair straightener among others. Such a basket is a great organizers to own for saving space.
Chrome wall holders have a ring that allows placing the hair dryer nose-first in them. You can either hang them on the wall as wall mounted holders, or from the counter side. I personally prefer the basket variety as it more than just a blow dryer holder. When you have a hair dryer holder you will realize how much easier your hair styling will become and how much time you save in the process as well, not to mention the de-cluttering effect such a bathroom accessory will have. Particularly if you buy the metal basket, you can place many things on it that will effectively free up your counter, desk or table surface.

This is a very thrifty/upcycled bag. The only new material used was some thread. The hedgehog was from a pattern that I found in a thrift store magazine. The doily it is stitched on was given to me by a friend, who got it from the thrift store they volunteer at. The buttons were from another friend. The yellow and red fabric was from a friend of a friend, who was moving and had to declutter their craft supplies. I'm very proud of how it turned out.

Trying to declutter our belongings at the moment. Books, clothes, boxes, cables, DVDs, CDs, cassette tapes (!)..........etc. Anything that hasn't been used over the last year will get recycled, given away, sold, or thrown in the bin.
Oh yeah, apologies for not visiting your streams. My work - home life is currently way off balance. Sigh.
