He may have got the month wrong but the waterways in the Northwest are definitely "singing" as they overflow with the spring snow melt and and recent rains.

I spent several enjoyable hours exploring and photographing at Deception Creek Fall Recreation Area on US Route 2 near Stevens Pass.

The short nature trail travels along the creek and then turns inland and winds through the lovely mature second growth forest where many old growth trees still remain. In the spring the new growth is very bright and "green". The dappled light accents appearance making for a wonderful forest experience.

Long exposure photograph at Deception Falls in Washington State.

Went to Deception Creek on Stevens Pass Saturday, Aug 8. Perfect Waterfall shooting weather, temp in the upper 60's and lots of high Overcast! Its flow was down enough to see a lot if the rocks and yet high enough to still emphasize the nature of this rather nice waterfall. This is a Harris Shutter Effect version. Digitally, this is easy to do and fun!

After being close for a year (or so), one of the best secrets around has re-opened: the Deception Falls wayside on Stevens Pass! You might stop to use the bathrooms but you should be sure to take the short walk to the falls. Better yet, do the 1/2 mile loop trail! This is very nice forest with some very large trees and the feel of a rainforest although I'm not sure if it officially has that distinction.

After taking the train from Vancouver to Bellingham just over the border we picked up a car and drove South towards Seattle and then picked up the Cascades Drive, which is a loop around this part of Washington State taking in breathtaking scenery. We stopped at Deception Falls for a walk though old woodland and a great waterfall, just before we drove over Stevens Pass at 4061ft. There was still alot of snow about but no where to pull in for a photo!

Deception Falls is located within Wells Gray Provincial Park. The falls are a short hike from the north shore of Mahood Lake.

This is one of many small waterfalls that Deception Creek Branch cascades over on it's way to join the Tye River. With the heavy flow many bubbles are created and form an interesting pattern with a long exposure.

Thought the Photographer on the Rock gives this photo great sense of scale. BTW, not bad for ISO1000!

When you arrive at the viewing area hike to the left up the hill there you will find a better location to photograph and view Deception Falls.

Not far below the falls the creek divides and a small branch travels through the forest. In this image the "small" branch, heading off to the right, has jumped it's banks leaving trees surrounded by the rushing water.

Deception Falls, measured at 94 feet high, is really a series of cascades on Deception Creek. It is located on US Highway 2 between Skykomish and Stevens Pass. This view includes the upper 2/3 of the falls, looking from a viewpoint underneath the highway, which spans the falls.

Deception Falls is very difficult to photograph since there are too many trees in the way. The plan was to hike down to the bottom of the falls but the water level in Deception Creek was too high and too dangerous to hike along the steep creek bank. I plan to try again when the water is lower. When you get to the viewing area the trail to the bottom is to the right down a very steep incline.

De-pinked/oranged and reposted.

After being sent to Wenatchee for work Monday afternoon, I decided to use the opportunity to visit Deception Falls along Hwy 2 and take a short nature hike.

Cairn have been used for ages to mark trails keeping people on the correct path. In our wilderness areas they have become quite overused being build where the trail is obvious, I hate this practice and have been known to knock over a few. However, when they are build as an artistic impression I do enjoy them. These small one were not the best I've seen but a very enjoyable sight as I walked along the trail.

Deception Creek crashes over a third right-angle drop and this time of year it has a huge volume, speed and force. The five kayakers I described in the previous image decide to bypass this rapids too.

A typical spring view as you walk through this mature second growth forest.

A closer view of Deception Falls which rages down 60 feet (18 metres).

On our way to Leavenworth, we stopped at deception falls. Luckily I had the tripod with me, so I could play around with exposure to get the 'blurred' water fall look.

We were looking for something simple and easy to get to, and this set of falls fit the bill. It's an easy drive on Stevens Pass where you can find the pull-off for Deception Falls. The clear, cascading water flows over granite and eventually makes its way to the Tye River.
