I miss being close to the sea.

Last week II did some exploring in the mountains around Deception Pass. This was my dream, beautiful wildflowers spread out and leading out the the Puget Sound and the setting sun. These small mountains were sculpted as the ice from the last ice age quickly melted leaving bare rock on the tops of these small mountains that rise from the Puget Sound. Over thousands of years meadows grew in the thin soils, but these environments are sensitive and can quickly disappear in a short period of time with too much traffic. Always tread light and leave no trace.

Tonight's sunset from the Deception Pass Bridge between Whidbey and Fidalgo Islands, Washington State. (177 ft. up!)

The Deception Pass Bridge is a two-lane bridge on Washington State Route 20 connecting Whidbey Island to Fidalgo Island in the U.S. state of Washington.

The bridge, one of the scenic wonders of the Pacific Northwest, is actually two spans, one over Canoe Pass to the north, and another over Deception Pass to the south. Construction began in August 1934, and the completed bridge was dedicated at noon on July 31, 1935. The Wallace Bridge and Structural Co. of Seattle, Washington provided 460 tons of steel for the 511-foot Canoe Pass arch and 1130 tons for the 976-foot Deception Pass span. The cost of the New Deal-era construction was $482,000, made possible through the Public Works Administration and county funds.

More locations on highway 2 that I have just drove by! Easy access and plenty of hiking, right off the highway. Taken with an ND64.

Yesterday's beauty shows us the true picture of self-deception ...

Testing out my new hiking lens. Linked together Tonga Ridge, Fisher Lake and Deception Creek trail for a fantastic hike. This little pancake lens paired nicely with the 6D for a decently light setup. So far I'm quite impressed.

This Island, first mapped by a Corkman, Edward Bransfield, is volcanic and was active as recently as 1969.

Macro Mondays: Deception

Deception Pass Bridge between Whidbey Is & Fidalgo Is in Washington State USA, this the larger of two bridges at this location, the other spanning Canoe Pass, completed in 1935 and carrying Highway 20 between Oak Harbor and Anacortes.

Washington State - The Deception Pass Bridge is a two-lane bridge connecting Whidbey Island to Fidalgo Island. It was a Public Works Administration project built by workers from the Conservation Corps.

Another deception that I found from the book “Deception on the plate” is Vanilla. We are told that we eat vanilla ice cream but often there's no real vanilla in it, but vanillin, which can be made from lignin a byproduct of the pulp and paper industry.

And according to this book Japanese have developed a way to extract lignin from a "byproduct" of cows, but the vanillin made from that isn't going to be used on any food, but for example in cheaper perfumes and creams.

So next time you buy vanilla ice cream check that it contains real thing :)

Sunrise at Deception Pass Bridge

Even my widest angle lens couldn't capture the entirety of this magnificent bridge that joins Whidbey Island to the mainland. This was taken at the north side, down a precarious trail to this open cliff lookout point.

View from the bridge

Is it weird that I have favorite trees? There are 4 trees that come to mind but this is probably my all time favorite.

last nite i watched the tourist...

i dont know... i love salt than this one...

... love the way she handle things...

The credit for this goes to an image I saw on the net today and my wife, who despite being tired after work, put up with me for this.. she's awesome, and I love her.

So, like I said I saw a shot like this on the net, and thought if I could do it. Realized how challenging it is when the basement is full of crap and toys and stuff and space is so limited.. aaargghhh.. anyhow, we pulled it off and I'm quite happy with the result.

Hey, at least you don't have to see my scare face, right?? That's got to be a big bonus..!!!!

It's all a deception...

Mark 7:20-22 ESV

And He [Jesus] said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness.

Romans 13:11-14 ESV

Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

2 Peter 2Amplified Bible (AMP)

The Rise of False Prophets

2 But [in those days] false prophets arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will subtly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways, and because of them the way of truth will be maligned. And in their greed they will exploit you with false arguments and twisted doctrine. Their sentence [of condemnation which God has decreed] from a time long ago is not idle [but is still in force], and their destruction and deepening misery is not asleep [but is on its way].

And by the way, this is a pristine green tropical landscape, but DECEIVED to mask an autumn scene. ..which we would never have in this part of the world. [unless there's another ice age, or a change in the axis :-)]

Sun Setting over Deception Bay

After passing over Deception Pass Bridge between Fidelgo Island and Whidbey Island in Washington, Lynn and I took a side hike that lead under the bridge.

Seeing the bridge from this viewpoint was one of those picture postcard moments. Golden hour and a splash of fall color only made it better.

In the spring of 1792, Joseph Whidbey, master of HMS Discovery and Captain Vancouver's chief navigator proved that it was not really a small bay as charted by the Spaniards (hence the name "Deception"), but a deep and turbulent channel that connects the Strait of Juan de Fuca with the Saratoga Passage, which separates the mainland from what they believed was a peninsula (actually Fidalgo Island and Whidbey Island). Thomas Coupe, a sea captain and founder of Coupeville, was the only man ever to sail a full-rigged ship through the strait discovered by Whidbey.

Deception Pass is a strait separating Whidbey Island from Fidalgo Island, in the northwest part of the U.S. state of Washington. It connects Skagit Bay, part of Puget Sound, with the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
