Same rock, same background, same 'me'

Named by Captain George Vancouver 10 June 1792. Feeling that he had been "DECEIVED" as to the nature of the inner waterway, PORT GARDNER (Now Saratoga Passage). He wrote on his chart "DECEPTION PASS." He honored master Joseph Whidbey, who found the passage while commanding a small boat crew of explorers by naming the island "WHIDBEY."

My girlfriend and I took a day trip up to Deception Falls and I had to take the typical touristy pictures. I tried to make the water really stand out in this photo and applied an infared black and white filter in Photoshop.

While shooting at Deception Falls the other weekend, I captured this detail image in the upper section. The water flow over the rocks in this particular area was awesome. A nice shelf of granite broke up the water creating some strong lines and highlights, great for black and white

Sailors led by Joseph Whidbey, part of the Vancouver Expedition, found and mapped Deception Pass on June 7, 1792. George Vancouver gave it the name "Deception" because it had misled him into thinking Whidbey Island was a peninsula. The "deception" was heightened due to Whidbey's failure to find the strait at first. Deception Pass connects Skagit Bay, part of Puget Sound, with the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The pass flows between Whidbey Island and Fidalgo Island. Its maximum depth is 145 feet. A pair of bridges known collectively as Deception Pass Bridge span Deception Pass. The bridges were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. Deception Pass, Oak Harbor, Wash. 13 June 2022

As the smaller branch of Deception Creek winds through the forest over rocky terrain it finally comes to a flat area where it can form a lovely wide gentle creek.
