For Macro Mondays theme "Deception". More of my many rings, what can I say? I love rings though I only ever wear my wedding rings!!
These are rings I bought for myself to be used in a play all about deception. When I was in college, I was in an American College Theatre Festival production of "Six Degrees Of Separation" by John Gaure. Unfortunately, I didn't get to play Ouisa Kittredge (the main "meaty" character) but I was her friend Kitty. Kitty was married to Larkin and they had one son. Their marriage, however, was not a happy one and Kitty was having an affair with a lawyer she knew. A very sticky situation inside a very sticky story!! Lots of deception going on!!
I had great fun going shopping with the costume designer and trying on all kinds of clothes that I, Mary Ann, would never in a million years wear!! When I asked her about my wedding ring, she said, to just wear something, no one will notice. But I would notice, I had to be a completely different person during that play and nothing I owned was right for my character. So I went to WalMart!! HA!!! I got these 2 cubic zirconia rings to try with the costume. I ended up wearing the contemporary gold one. Before the show started, I had to enter with the audience. On opening night, I walked to my seat passing my entire family and sitting only one row in front of them. Not one of them recognized me!! It was one of the most fantastic feelings I have ever had!! When I walked onstage to deliver my first line, I heard my mother gasp. It was a great show, and I enjoyed every single performance!!! I was nominated for an Irene Ryan scholarship for my portrayal of Kitty and got to travel to Arizona to compete for it! Good times...

Deception Pass is a natural landmark and a popular recreation area in the Pacific Northwest, located at the entrance to the northern Puget Sound. It is a dramatic, narrow strait separating Whidbey Island from Fidalgo Island in Washington State. When George Vancouver first came across the narrow straight in 1792, he thought it was the mouth of a large river. When he later discovered it was between two islands, he felt mislead and named the passage after its "deception."
The strait is known for its powerful tidal currents, stunning cliffs, and the Deception Pass Bridge, which offers panoramic views of the Sound, cliffs, and the turbulent waters below. They are all part of Deception Pass State Park, Washington’s most visited state park, offering boating, hiking, and camping.

This photograph kind of haunts me, it was not intended to come out this way. I was trying to take a photograph of my son when my father approached the bench - to sit down beside him. So basically my father walked into the photo...
When I looked at the photo later it kind of reminded me of a 'stranger' - scary movie type of scene.
-The look on my son's face as he's staring at Pop Pop.
-The 'natural' bench & the house on the hill top behind them.
-The way the shadows spread through out the photo.
-The way my dad's hand is closed, everytime I glance at ths photo I swear that he is holding something.. [he wasn't.. what tricks me are the buttons on his sleeve].
I don't know. Something about this photo disturbes me, but I love that I took it because I don't normally take that style photograph.

View of the bridge at Deception Pass. The hike to this spot is short, easy and alot of fun. It was kind of tough hoisting myself up the trail to this point, but so worth it.

Sometimes we go around deceiving ourselves into thinking things are a lot better than they actually are. We're usually reminded quite quickly how just not true it is.

With wings closed, the Dead Leaf (Orange Oak-leaf) closely resembles a dry leaf with dark veins and is a spectacular example of camouflage and deception.

Do as I say, not as I do.
Who remembers our parents saying that to us, in so many words. But our parents almost always had our true best interests at heart, and the phrase had more to do with their own shortfalls and their hopes for us.
When politicians tell us the same thing, the motives are not so pure. Or benign..
Like when Bernie (BS) Sanders tells us he wants "Medicare for all", but he's not including himself or his fellow Members of Congress. Just like ObamaCare, they will be exempt, and continue to have access to their own private doctors and hospitals. They are never, ever going to vote themselves into the same pool as the rest of us.
His mantra *should* be - "Medicare for all of YOU!". Free Medicare, of course. But as he was forced to half-admit in the Fox News Townhall, it's only "free" at the point where you USE it. It's not "free" as they take the premiums from you through your paycheck.
BUT! It's "free" in his addled, nonsensical Socialist mind, because you won't be paying premiums to a private insurer. So, it's like it's free.. Because it's money you would have paid anyway.. Get it, dummy?
What it's really like, is taking the money you would have spent on a jet ski, sifting it through the system, cutting it by half, and ending up sitting at gate of the public pool, waiting for your number to be called so you can wedge yourself into the water. But it's free!
Between Whidbey Island and Fidalgo Island there is a narrow strait called Deception Pass. This is the western entrance. To the left is the open water of Rosario Strait and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. To the right is the narrowest part of Deception Pass, where a high steel arch bridge links the two islands. Beyond the narrow strait is Skagit Bay, which is connected to Puget Sound via the long and narrow Saratoga Passage. All around the strait is Deception Pass State Park, where you can find great ocean views, beaches, forests with some surprisingly large trees and odd plants like Indian-pipe. There are something like 18 miles of hiking trails. Nice place.
The geology is also unusual -- it is the boundary between two terranes (a terrane is something like a giant piece of land riding on top of a tectonic plate), which were crushed together in the distant geologic past. The result, especially visible on the north side of the strait, are twisted rocks, cracked, broken, folded and deformed in myriad ways. More than two terranes are involved in the area's geology. The nearby San Juan Islands are made of many terranes of different rock from different parts of the world, stacked on top of each other like a derailed train accident. You can see many kinds of odd rock at Deception Pass, such as a metamorphized basalt called spilite, chert, shale, and graywackes. There is pillow basalt, old lava tuff, and a plutonic rock called plagiogranite. There are slickenline "cat scratch" cracks and lines all over the rocks. As one description puts it, the rocks here have been "sliced and diced", and "here we have the wreckage of an ancient volcanic island that was spread out on the seafloor". One of the formations I liked was the ribbon chert in shale -- dark rock criss-crossed with webs of narrow bands of white rock (remains of marine plankton blooms).
Since the west side of the strait is the open waters of Juan de Fuca -- practically the Pacific Ocean -- and the east side is a rather large inlet of Puget Sound, far to the south through several straits (Admiralty Inlet, Possession Sound, Saratoga Passage, and Skagit Bay), tidal differences can create amazing currents in Deception Pass.
We arrived at the bottom of low tide, and the waters in the strait were placid. After a couple hours, the tide on the beach was noticeably growing stronger and higher, and the tidal currents began to pick up. The current is strong enough to create whitecaps and waves, and looks quite dramatic. The last time we were at Deception Pass, it was during a particularly powerful tidal current. We stood on the bridge and watched in awe as giant upwellings of water churned and frothed, and were torn out to sea by the current. I'd never seen anything like it.
