Now what can one photograph in such dark, gloomy weather ? The ring-necked parakeets brighten up the grey winter garden but they arrive so early in the morning when there's only half light. As a result, my snaps are grainy and lacking in focus, but I took the opportunity this morning as there was a red car in the street which matched these colourful birds' beaks nicely.

Rufous Necked Lark.

I'm a photographer not an ornithologist and I've only been to Africa exactly one time so... I thought it looked neat. The guide said it was kind of rare to spot this creature. I don't know, he said that about a lot of things. Part of the shtick maybe.This was photo was taken handheld from a slowly moving safari vehicle...pretty far for such a small subject.
