Another Impulsive Shot

This old typewriter finds its way into a lot of my photos. Best $5-at-an-estate-sale I ever spent...

I received some new toys for Christmas: a super macro conversion lens, a set of macro filters, an external flash, etc (details of all of these things here).

The typewriter seemed like the perfect subject for experimentation :-)

All of these photos used one or the other of the macro filters/lenses and the flash. I have never liked flash photos with the built-in, but the external does a nice, natural job, I think.

The snow is really bad today and still falling heavily so looks like I will be working from home again. :-))

Here is another characteristic Short-eared Owl perched pose, the tilt. We have already provided pictures of other characteristic looks such as the perched cocked head look and some contortionist neck "moves" in flight. Still to come are the ruffled look while perched, the waif look, and some additional in flight contortionist maneuvers. If the aerial "dogfights" between friendly Shorties and other aerobatics are also factored in, the conclusion is obvious that this viewer-friendly species of owl has showmanship in its DNA.

Disused railway bridge over the River Derwent at Rowsley, Derbyshire that used to carry London expresses on the Matlock to Buxton line. Hopefully it will be back in use one day.
