Pictures by Jim Walker of much of the art stuff happening at Big Car Gallery www.bigcar.org and in the rest of Fountain Square in Indianapolis, Indiana on Dec. 7, 2007. Stops include Alias and Alchemy at the Murphy Art Center and of the open house at the Wheeler Arts Center. The pictures at Big Car are of the "Under the Weather" art show and "Winter Stew" music show featuring a variety of artists in each. Also the Hoosier Beer Geeks www.hoosierbeergeek.com offered better beer samples as they do most First Fridays.
It's been raining mushrooms here. But we're in a dry cold snap now.....it's suppose to really dip low this weekend.
My sister is celebrating her 60th birthday Saturday. I'm suppose to be helping with preparations...but am on flickr instead. So, the remainder of this week my time here will be very limited.
I love December with the coming Christmas holiday. But it's a busy time too.
An interesting scene, especially to a signal engineer like myself at Worcester Shrub Hill as the local signalling maintenance team go about their duties, 4th December 2014. Whilst the lookout provides the protection the other team member is busy (out of frame) with his tasks as the third member fills in the record cards. Being a London Midland man I am no great fan of these Western Region style location cases which to my mind with there lift off doors are a right pain. The left hand case contains a number of banks of batteries which in this basically mechanically signal area provide the standby power for the signal repeaters, electrical point detection and track circuits. In the middle case we have a couple of battery chargers and associated fuses, at the top a couple of shelf type relays and to the right of the battery chargers a number of what look like moving iron polar relays. The right hand case contains all the cable terminations. The two ground signals are interesting in that the single arm ground signal furthest away is a British Railways (Western Region) version of the Great Western Railway 1930's design of disc shunting signal where the cast-iron post and square lamp housings of the Great Western Railway version have been modified to a tubular posts with cylindrical lamp housings. As you can see the two arm ground signal is a Great Western Railway original. Also of note is the recently renewed point rodding which has required quite a bit of ballast shovelling by someone. As a signal engineer you do love the PWay guys love of ballast.
