Demanding and difficult are closely related terms, but there is a fine distinction between the two. Exploring what distinguishes the merely difficult from the demanding will help us find the edge of our awareness where the aesthetic plunges down into existential depth...
Analyzing a piece of music according to all the intricacies of musicology is certainly more difficult than simply to sit back and listen with wholehearted enjoyment; yet, to listen deeply is more demanding than to analyze the structure. Analyzing takes knowledge and skill; true listening takes all of you. It might not seem difficult to give ourselves to the rapture of beauty. Yet, out of it emerges a Presence, a Voice, name it as you wish, that goes beyond aesthetics and makes existential demands; “You must change...”

Hoping some enlightenment tags along with the expanding light of the upcoming months here in the northern hemisphere. Season’s greetings to all.
Here are the wonderful colors produced by the rising sun in the seaside landscape on the Gulf of Finland coast in Helsinki on a December morning.
The night before the shoot, by chance, a little frost and partly cloudy skies were promised for the morning. This was refreshing news after a long rainy period. By that time in December, the sun had only been visible for 20 minutes here on the Helsinki coast and we were almost halfway through the moon.
So we had to go and see if that rare prediction would come true. It did come true, this time it wasn't a wasted trip. It was freezing at -5 °C early in the morning at the shooting location and there was a slight cloudiness in the sky as morning twilight fell. During the day, the sun shone here for several hours, after which the rains continued again. However, slightly drier weather is coming for Christmas, but unfortunately no snow (A7R0023-4e).
Merry Christmas to everyone.

Farewell, December 2012!
As usual I had no patience to post this December photographs one after another. So here is the whole set. I just hope some of you will be more patient than me and enjoy it in it's entirety..
Roman writers claimed that their calendar was invented by Romulus, the founder of Rome around 753 BC.
His version contained 10 months with the vernal equinox in the first month: Martius,
Aprilis, Maius, Iunius, Quintilis, Sextilis, September, October, November, December.

Happy Fence Friday and have a lovely weekend my friends. I will be away for a few days on a girls shopping trip.
#342/365 Yes! We have rain! Unfortunately I was so slammed at work I didn't have to enjoy it. I did take a break to go outside and take a shot in the rain as it let up a little bit. Hopefully it will rain again soon. I really want to take a portrait in the rain!
