PERSONAL FUN FACT: This dress is so very precious! I think it looks fantastic on a particularly vulnerable, sweet looking doll. I have had this since I was a kid. I always thought the sweet heart print was darling. It was kind of sad looking back then, because it was a little dirty (it was a secondhand purchase). But a proper laundering brought it back to life. I thought it was a Valentine's Day themed ensemble. It took me a while to track down photos of it when I was researching my childhood collection. This was also packaged several different ways. Some of them were sold in little baggies, others were carded. That added to the confusion when it came time to identify it. There is supposed to be a little heart gem on the collar, but mine is long gone. I remember it was barely hanging on there when I was a kid. I guess it fell off sometime during our dolly hiatus, before I could repair it.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: Ah Malibu Ave Market Barbie...you were a beast to identify!!! Dolls from this era are the WORST to identify since they are so generic. Unlike Barbies from later years, who have codes/stock numbers printed on their backs, this Barbie lacked such a useful feature. I had to comb the internet for photos of her...which took an eternity. When I first saw images of Malibu Ave Market Barbie, I thought I might have solved the mystery. Her body mold and blunt bangs seemed like a match. But I couldn't find any up close images of her face. So I kept on browsing, to see if she matched any other dolls. In the end, I circled back to Malibu Ave Market Barbie because I was having no luck. It didn't help that she was dressed so well in a Fashionistas "Lovin' Lavender" dress that looked SUPER convincing. Once I identified the outfit, I knew it had nothing to do with Barbie herself. So I sat and watched a few Youtube videos that reviewed this set, hoping they'd show closeups of Barbie. NOPE!!! Despite the fact that the videos were all supposed to be reviews, nobody bothered to give Barbie a moment of camera time. In the end, I found Mattel's video on the pack, which DID showcase Barbie for a few seconds. That video still was how I confirmed this Barbie's id. She's very pretty--I especially think the straight, full bangs do her favors. Colleen had an easy time dressing her up (sadly her outfit was not in the lot with her). What makes Barbie even more special is that she was a thoughtful gift. She was part of the "Mountains of Monsters Lot," which we were given in March of 2023.
I noticed a lot of "couples" sitting on the benches on the roof garden at the Kyoto train station. I assume they are dating. Japan.
Happy Valentine Day
I am the Grinch of "Valentine Day". I only celebrated this day properly once in my entire adulthood.
18 years old: I went out to drinking with my High School friends. I got drunk for the first time in my entire life. My "dream girl" also came out.... we got her into trouble by waking her parents up at 2 AM. Then, after I dropped her off, I told my friends that I was interested in that girl. They told everyone in school the next day.... and the whole school laughed at me for the entire week. Oh well, she did become my girlfriend.
19 to 21 years old: long distance relationship with the same girl above. I probably stayed in the dorm and did homeworks.
22 years old: No girlfriend, no target so nothing happened.... I met a girl on the 15th or 16th of February. She became my girlfriend a week later, but she dumped me on my own birthday party in mid-March. Sad day for me, but I used that as a " sob story" to get girls and it worked VERY, VERY well for many years.
23 years old: I went to a ski trip without my girlfriend. Both before and after the trip, I told her that only assholes spent Valentine Day without their girlfriends... so she dumped me(Thank God) after I returned. The trip was fun... liked all college road trips!!!
24, 25, 26 years old: Same story but with three different girls. I was still courting her, but made dumb excuses so that we spent it together. "Fuck Valentine Day... if you have nothing to do, call me after dinner," I told them and we did manage to go out. Great memories.... even through we did not do anything special. I enjoyed the part where I stared at the phone on Valentine night and wondered if I should call her or would she call me....
27 years old: long distance relationship, but she did not care for me. I probably called her on long distance.
28 years old: I finally dumped the girl from last year in January... I think I went to the USA for Chinese New Year which was in February.
29 years old: My girlfriend was on a business trip.
30 years old: Already engaged to the same girlfriend above.... I took her to a fancy dinner. My first proper date!!!! I picked flowers up from the florist(before I always had to wire them overseas)for my first and perhaps last time. It was fun, but systematic.
31 years old: I became a father a few days before V.day. We probably spent it in the hospital.
32 to now: I don't care about it anymore.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: I have mixed feelings about this dress. On the one hand I LOVE that it is orange! It's not everyday that Barbie rocks orange (especially being a kid from the 90s/early 2000s when she was always decked out in pink). But on the other hand, the black stripes paired with the orange makes this outfit feel like it was made for Halloween. And the high collar is a strange, yet unique touch. I think it takes a special kind of doll to pull off this combination...it was not very flattering on my Kelley doll (Starr's friend). I don't know what possessed me to put it on her, but for several years she rocked this dress, until I found her a Starr fashion pack at the flea market. Perhaps it was her awkward body mold that made her look so jarring in it. Regardless, it was not flattering. I do however love this dress for being so unique and unexpected. Plus, I handpicked this out when I purchased it--it was 25 cents at the local flea market. Back in 2013, "Dollar Lady" always brought in several totes of doll clothes that she refused to sell in one bulk purchase. So I made sure to snag this dress when I found it lurking in one of the bags at the flea market. Although this might sound strange, I think a Pocahontas doll could somehow pull this dress off!

I was lucky to catch these two together - a Downy Woodpecker and a beautiful Pine Grosbeak, both males. The female Downy does not have the red spot on her head and the female Grosbeak is grey with a brown head. Such welcome colour in wintertime!

The Ghost Story!
THE moral of this, the Sixteenth Card of our Series, is that, if young ladies would avoid creating a scene, similar to the one the artist, Mr. R. W. Buss, gives us in this admirable picture, they had better forego reading ghost stories at bed-time.
As the rough, wintery season of the year approaches, do not forget that a Cold, once contracted, demands prompt treatment, lest the accompanying Cough should inflame and rack the Lungs, and induce the formation of tubercles. By the use of DR. JAYNE'S EXPECTORANT, in small doses, -- repeating same according to the urgency of symptoms, -- your Cold will speedily yield, and your Lungs escape a dangerous ordeal. If you should be seized with a Sore Throat, Bronchitis, or any Bronchial Disorder, the EXPECTORANT will subdue the inflammation of the parts, detach the mucous matter which clogs them, and gradually promote a cure. In case of Asthma, the EXPECTORANT overcomes the cause of the trouble, and a prompt restoration follows. If attacked by Pleurisy, or any Acute Inflammation of the Lungs or Throat, take the EXPECTORANT according to directions, -- bathing the parts thoroughly with DR. JAYNE'S LINIMENT, -- and covering up warmly in bed. Looking at the video frames, I see why the flight ended so soon. The parachute deployed right after launch, and was dragged along for the ride. It's amazing that the structure did not disintegrate...
