NGC6888 - The Crescent Nebula
Sat some 5000 light years away in the constellation of Cygnus (Swan). This beautiful nebula is formed from the fast stellar wind emitted by the Wolf-Rayet star colliding and energising the slower moving wind created by the star when it turned in to a red giant, some 250-400,000 years ago.
This image is in my mind still a "work in progress", I always want more data, more time - but I feel it's ready enough to share.
Shot using my 8" telescope over a period of three separate nights, this image is a composite of two data sets, Ha and OIII.
24x600s Ha exposures (4 hours)
19x1200s OIII exposures (6.3 hours)
Camera was set to 1x1 binning, -17C.
On a personal note, space, it's bloody beautiful.
