Blue Dasher [Pachydiplax longipennis]

Green Cay Wetlands

Boynton Beach, FL

The light this morning was gorgeous until a few clouds began rolling in. The light was especially nice on a group of mallard ducks and I watched them as they went through their morning preening rituals. This handsome drake had just finished his vigorous morning preening session and seemed pleased as punch with his dashing appearance. Wildwood Park, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

These dahlia plants go well together, though the one at rear is blocking the sun from the purple one.

While waiting for Trillium to make their moves in Merritton my brother and I happened upon the Niagara GO train, led by a pair of '59's. Passing through Merritton the GO passes the grade runoff from Trilliums Merritton hill, now rendered useless by the shuttering of Grantham Spur.

Dragonfly - odonata anisoptera. In the skimmer family (libellulidae), I think this is a female Blue Dasher ( Pachydiplax longipennis ) (? !!), which, unlike the male, is a dashing golden yellow.

The biggest joke here is not its name, but the fact that it is resting on a wire sculpture of a dragonfly..

It wasn't hard to find palm trees decorated with Christmas lights nearby. To see a forest of them sparkling along a peppermint lined path was unique. Wishing you much harmony and happiness this Christmas.

I'm taking a short Flickr holiday break. See you in a week or so...

Aboutme

The clouds were moving so swiftly across the sky, they were nearly gone by sunset.

I have two visitors to my feeder now and this male sat in the bushes for quite awhile...almost an hour...and was very curious about the sound of the shutter. I am sure he has decided this is his territory to protect. The lighting next to my trailer is terrible so it's challenging to get a shot...

We're leaving in a couple of hours for another out-of-town wedding. Will be back

Sunday afternoon. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

The Blue Dasher is the Tom Cruise of dragonflies

(i.e. small in stature, but good looking).

Some might say the Gilded Cruiser is the Tom Cruise of Dragonflies, but that's more of a sound alike than a look alike.

And besides the Blue Dasher is an expert at flying search and destroy sorties, whereas the Gilded Cruiser is more of a long range bomber.

FYI - That's Bailey barking in the background.

I'm not sure if she was barking at the Bluester, or me (because I was ignoring her). Though if it were a squirrel I was filming, there would be no question what she was barking about!

In the rush of life, every step forward is a story — sometimes fast, sometimes slow, but at the end of the day, it always leads back to where peace awaits.

It's about time I posted a Net Flicks candidate again so here's one from my recent trip to Norway featuring Widerøe's Bombardier Dash-8 LN-WSA arriving at Bodø in the early evening

Really, really early alpha stage crap. This is pretty much just a mock up. I want the blue leopard print blazer from the Cyberpunk 2077 promos in my game :)

For the second year in a row we have had Baltimore Orioles nesting in a tree across the street and they like to visit the hummingbird feeder. Their machine-gun chattering is a fun addition to the usual backdrop of birdsong.
