When trying to get shots of the Blue Dasher, on the left, I noticed the green one, still a mystery, on the right!

Zoomed out to get both together but my camera wasn't sure what I was trying to focus on. Perhaps not the best of shots, but still - fun to see.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Scots knew a thing or two about bus liveries ... as exemplified by this wonderful Alexander bodied Daimler Fleetline. Given their countryman's legendary frugality (!), it's surprising that such well executed lined out paint schemes ever made it out of the realms of dreams. Thankfully they did and 'Midland' liveried SMS 120P bears testimony to the fact... that coupled to the skill and care of it's restorers.

For me this style of Alexander body in low height form has rarely if ever been surpassed. It was the same combination of D type body on a Fleetline chassis which stood out to me when a child here in Stoke on Trent as PMT's examples looked so different and stylish when compared to anything else around at the time.

The picture was taken as the bus nipped through the traffic lights by Kirkby Stephen's picturesque 'Temperance Hall' and back into the town centre. A later ride on the bus confirmed my recollections that these buses were totally rigid and rattle free bodily ... would that we could say so of any modern day equivalents!

GB Railfreight Class 92, 92043 (formerly named "Debussy") glides through Winsford with the early-running Caledonian Sleeper Up Highlander (1M16).

A revised timetable was in operation due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with two trains running in each direction - one to Inverness and Fort William and the other to Edinburgh - meaning no services to Aberdeen or Glasgow Central.

In summary, the uplifted timetable has a Load 14 Highlander serving Inverness (x8) and Fort William (x6) and a Load 8 Lowlander serving Edinburgh only; along with 6 extra coaches being moved as ECS on the Lowlander in each direction twice per week (Southbound Sunday and Wednesday / Northbound Monday and Thursday) to rotate units for maintenance.

Carte de visite by B.L.H. Dabbs of Allegheny City, Pa. The young man pictured here, with long hair, dark eyes and dimpled chin, is not known. The photographer’s back mark may offer some clue to his identity. Allegheny City, located on Pittsburgh’s north side, was a separate municipality from 1788-1907. The area was mostly farmland until the 1850s when it was subdivided into lots to accommodate its growing German population. This man may have come from one of the German states to make his way in America.

Photographer B.L.H. Dabbs, according to a biographer, “Came to Pittsburg in 1861, and opened a store for the sale of ambrotype and photographic supplies. In the same year he purchased the gallery of a Mr. Rorah, Nos. 90 and 92 Federal Street, Allegheny, and entered the field of artistic photography. His work was a revelation to the people of Pittsburg and vicinity, and commanded prompt appreciation. In 1864, Mr. Dabbs removed to Pittsburg, and established the largest photograph gallery in the State at 46 and 48 Sixth Street. So rapidly did the demand for his photographs increase that, in 1869, he sold out his business as a dealer in photographic materials. Since then he has devoted all his time and talents to the taking of portraits and the development of the photographic art.”

Dah Wife was pruning the dead flower stalks on our Bird-of-paradise when she spotted some cute tree frogs on the leaves. She then ran into the house spouting, "Cute frog alert!", and I of course (being the obedient spouse) went out to deal with the crisis at hand. Then, after I was through photographing the shy and elusive TFs (or should I say after they were through with me) I noticed this dashing bluester on one of the dead flower heads, and made a few captures of him as well!

Now that I know the the dead flower-heads serve as a spotting tower for the DFs I'm conflicted as to whether we should proceed with dead-heading the BOPs. However, since I'm having trouble deciding, I will defer to Dah Wife, who I have to say is more than just a little scissors happy! :{(

Two dashing warriors, Lieutenant Matti Rantasila and Sergeant T. Luostarinen.

Power plant block, Aunus isthmus. 25/04/1943.

SA photo # 128077, photographer: Lieutenant Tenho Myllymäki

Matti Henrik Rantasila (26.12.1922 - 15.03.2004) already entered the service during the winter war on 28.12.1939. He was promoted to lieutenant on July 14, 1942 and served as the leader of the jaeger team and deputy commander of the company.

Rantasila was seriously wounded just 5 days before the armistice on August 31, 1944, when he lost his right hand. Rantasila had been appointed as the leader of the I/JR2 jaeger team just a couple of days before he was fatally wounded.

After the war, he learned to write with his left hand and soon began to produce war books by tapping the Remington with one finger. The first book was published in 1980, "Joukkueenjohtaja", "Talvisodan vapaaehtoinen" was published in 1983, "Viimeinen vastaisku" in 1985 and "Oli neljä veikkoa meitä" in 1993.

Typhoon dashing to and fro at Dunsfold - great routine by the way.

After Clarke and I realized the Troy Grove job would not run in daylight, I stumbled upon via listening to scanner traffic, three trains running near or after Sunset. This was the second one, caught on the CNRR Freeport Sub at Engel Rd, just West of Burlington, IL The Walker Rd "High and Wide" shot was the third and last shot. This train was having trouble making track speed, and they were given authorization to run at Notch-8. Thanks to Gerry Dobey, and Mark Llanuza for confirming the location of this thing, and to my Uniden BC125AT scanner and external antenna for picking up the radio call when this guy was 30 miles West of me.

Delivered to Rio Airways in 1982, this 'Dash Seven' was later repossessed and stored but was then leased again - this time to Pennsylvanian based Ransome Airlines which changed it's name to PanAm Express.

Returned in 1991, a year later she was leased again and became N171CL of Paradise Island Airlines before eventually being withdrawn from use at Fort Lauderdale, Florida and scrapped in 1995.

The latest re- paint for the fleet of Stanways coaches of Rode Heath is this Alexander Dash bodied Dennis Dart, J702 YRM. The bus has been part of the fleet for just over a year but has unusually been operated in the livery of former owner Stagecoach. With a new MoT, seatbelts to make it more useful, a fresh coat of paint and lettering the dependable little bus was taken for a paintwork road-test this afternoon. Owing to a measuring mishap, we're missing the fleetname for the front panel.

Previous owners RML2418 Ltd of Wem so far as I recall never actually operated this bus ... unless 'vss1x' can say otherwise. It did however make a very useful and watertight store shed!

The above picture was taken as the sun was setting this afternoon between Chesterton and Audley, Newcastle under Lyme at Wood Lane with the Wedgwood monument at Red Street on the hill to our left.
