July 2, 2015 - I took a photo of Capilano Lake just a month ago, on May 31st . Capilano Lake is one of our main drinking water reservoirs in Vancouver at a month ago it was full. With no rain to speak of in the past two months, and not a speck of snow on the mountains, the water is disappearing quickly. We are in no way even remotely close to conditions to the south, but it's not a stretch to see us getting there if the weather continues to throw hot dry summers and warm winters at us.
We had an amazing Thai meal this evening with friends Susann and Peter, and the kids all enjoyed homemade pizza.

Day 80 of an Undetermined Number
"Woman in Church in Bruges"
I am by no means a religious man, but I will visit every church, cathedral and temple while traveling internationally. If a town doesn't have a museum, I'll bet the pretty stuff is at the church!! Historically speaking, it was the church that could afford to commission painters and sculptors, so naturally the art frequently depicted religious themes. It makes sense. With that being said, here is a photograph of a woman sitting in a church.....in Bruges. I don't recollect what she was looking at, but I liked the natural light pouring in through the doors. The portrait is a tad blurred, as I did not crank up the ISO, and I was attempting to capture the portrait cunningly, before my subject spotted me. I framed the image so the negative space was behind her, thereby hoping to create a little tension. Thank you for having a look!!

Why is it only fighter planes that get cool teeth decals? There's a gap in the market for household equipment stickers. I like to intimidate my creases before I iron them out!

Our public library is a very modern building. Designed by Fredrick Prescott, the three horse sculptures located on the south lawn of the library are kinetic-their heads move in the wind. Today was windy so the horses heads were moving up and down quite a bit! I wish the grass was green; but it's a little early for that yet. View On Black
For anyone interested here is a link to a photo tour of this great building: www.infoway.org/LibraryTour/index.html
I had a fun and productive work day before heading over to watch Maddie cheering at the school basketball games.

That's some pure class-A Bournville there. None of that cheap stuff cut with milk chocolate and milky bars.
Originally the Kings Head. Closed, then re-opened a few times, one could never be quite sure what was happening? Narrow building, with plenty of dark wood panelling throughout.

Daily Post #19
OK the last post I did told the future! My unscheduled break from daily post has been caused by my internet being cursed...
19th - Router is saying my password is wrong. Bit odd as I hadn't changed it. Password retrieval line unavailable so decide to leave it for the day.
20th - Still no change. Faff around with router for ages (inadvertantly resetting and losing the password - this is an important feature in my woe). Email tech support and wait.
23rd - Response from tech support, no problem with line. Try to phone them up and there's a recorded message saying the systems are being upgraded and will be back on 24th.
24th - I realise that I have deleted my password and don't know what it is. Password retrieval service still unavailable and unfortunately, the call centre had closed by this time.
26th - A letter arrives telling me I have a future of brighter broadband. Well, just having it would improve things but the upshot is that the exchange is being upgraded on the 2nd and I'll lose connection for a while. By this point I have fallen out of the habit of regular internet use and decide to be patient.
So the 2nd of February comes and goes...Nothing. I phone up all available phone numbers but my home phone number is not recognised and they have crappy automated systems which mean I can't get through. Once again I am waiting for an email response.
In the meantime, I'm using public wifi.

Following the article in the Daily Post about my U Boat photo www.dailypost.co.uk/news/local-north-wales-news/porth-new... I was approached by a local farmer who told me that he had a pelton wheel turbine on his farm, whom his father had told him that the valve unit that opened the water to the turbine was from the U boat that was scrapped at Porthmadog in 1922.It was interesting also to see that the turbine had been built by O.G. Jones engineers of Portmadoc of whom I have never heard of !
Day 153 of an Unknown Number
"From Tater"
Sometimes, half of photography is just seeing the light. I suppose that can be said for a lot of things. The family and I were at a tiny fare today at a local park. After spending much of the time at the petting zoo, daddy paid a visit to the food trucks. After devouring the "Corean" street tacos and most of the tater tots, my wife followed the little ones as they went in search of bouncy places. I was left with a purse, a diaper bag, ketchup (or catsup), and a lonely tater tot......and the light. Naturally I loved the colors and textures before me, but it was that hotspot that captured my attention. It appeared that someone had lit the scene for me. All I had to do was to select the angle from which to shoot. I selected this one. Thanks for taking a look!!

Day 323 of an Unknown Number
"Mystically Thine"
As a child I was fortunate enough to spend some time in Europe....specifically, Paris. During one of our visits a very long time ago, we stopped in at Shakespeare and Company, a little bookstore near the Seine. I would always look at either the books on Chaplin and early film, or magic. For some reason a book by Ricky Jay caught my attention. The book was, Cards as Weapons. I don't know if it was the descriptive techniques of throwing playing cards, or if it was the fact that the model demonstrating the techniques was a beautiful nude woman. Regardless, when we returned home, I was hanging carrots on strings in the hallway, and exhausting my wrist and elbow, attempting to slice the dangling veggies. Not a pretty picture, I know. With that being said.............I can throw a playing card better than you. Years later, I worked on "Boogie Nights", and spotted Mr. Jay on his director's chair. I finally built up the little confidence I had at the time, and told him my story in relation to himself and his book. After a few days of pondering the idea, I finally brought my copy of Cards as Weapons to the set, and asked him if he would autograph it. He obliged, and signed it, "Mystically thine." That was pretty damn cool for a shy, nerdy young man. Ricky Jay was not only one of the greatest close-up magicians, but he was also an avid collector of books on magic and all things strange, an actor, author, and creator of illusions for film and stage. You may not know his name, but you've seen his work. RIP, Mr. Jay.

Our Daily Challenge: Aug.23-Letters, Aug.24-Standing, Aug.25-BOTTLE/S, Aug.27-Blue. I think I got a quad something or 4-peat. Vodka is my drink of choice... I save these bottles for a friend who uses them for a craft project. In this case they came in handy for my project.
After a day working in Casablanca, Morocco, my colleagues and I went to dinner at a fantastic restaurant called Al Mounia.
What a gorgeous morning! Too bad that by the evening the weather was so stormy that lightening hit the Staines train line and created havoc on my commute home.
We went to Ankerwycke to pick blackberries and wow, were they amazing. While there we hunted for some geocaches that eluded us before and found three of them! Very clever.
