Now this was a surprise! We were expecting a Class 31 on the 0925 Weymouth - Bristol Temple Meads on 30 January 1975, but instead were graced with there presence of Class 52 No. 1067 'Western Druid' instead. The train is just approaching Westbury South Junction. Copyright Photograph John Whitehouse - all rights reserved

Derlin's the most powerful druid in all the land. unfortunately hes often far too drunk to safely negotiate with, so he lives a solitary life. well kinda, unless you count his decapitated test subje..i mean friends.

built for the EB heroica second year anniversary contest, yes the interior is part of the same build and it does fit in the 32x32 limit.

Stone circles in Britain were in fact built two or three thousand years before the druids, and to the best of our knowledge were not druid temples. To medieval and late modern scholars, anything pre-Roman was druidical. In his 19th-century guidebook to the Lake District, William Wordsworth describes Castlerigg as a temple of the druids. The truth is that we know very little about the people who built these monuments and what they were thinking. Castlerigg has a spectacular setting on a small plain ringed by hills, that the builders must have had a reason for choosing.

This building was built for the Ancient Order of Druids Friendly Society in 1846 at a cost then of £1800 eventually rising

to over £2000. Friendly Societies date from the late 18th century in order to offer financial help and security to the

poorest in society. The Druids wereparticularly strong in this area with some 600 members in the mid 19th century. Since those early days the building has had different uses, drill hall, Methodist meeting hall, entertainment hall, hotel, early meeting place for Socialists, and then Masonic Hall

The Druid's circle is a ring of around 30 stones stands on the headland of Penmaenmawr above Conwy, close to a prehistoric trackway and three other stone circles. It has a portalled entrance consisting of 4 stones and have been raised as early as 3000BC.

Nicky and I were exploring this land of wizards and magicians, a landscape conservation area with bizzare rock formations and a plenty of endangered animal and plant species.

My girlfriend and me were near this magnificent place enjoying some weeks this summer.

We decide to go there to wait for the sunset and the moonrise.

At the tail end of 2024 I met up with a few other night dwellers to shoot a few spots in the North. This is the entrance to the Druids Temple, lit with a torch and a BLS. An awesome weekend with excellent company.

This is a composition I have used many times but never bores me as conditions and light vary so much. The trees are in fact part of an ancient druid's circle just close to my house. The cloud formation and light last night were weird but beautiful. I also obtained some long exposures which I will shortly post.

One Saturday morning in late June I decided to try out my new DSLR on one of the shaded streets in this beautiful area. If you click on the set to the right and run the SLIDESHOW in Full Screen Mode you can follow me up and down this street and get an idea of the architecture of the area.

"Druid Hills is an upper-class neighborhood east of Midtown, Atlanta, in DeKalb County, Georgia. The planned community was initially conceived by Joel Hurt, and developed with the effort of Atlanta's leading families, including Coca-Cola founder Asa Candler. It contains some of Atlanta's historic mansions from the late 19th and early 20th Century. Druid Hills includes the main campus of Emory University, which relocated to Atlanta in 1914. Ponce de Leon Avenue bi-sects the community.

Druid Hills was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and was one of his last commissions. A showpiece of the design was the string of parks along Ponce de Leon Avenue, designated as Druid Hills Parks and Parkways and listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 11, 1975."

Some find it hard to believe that this magnificent urban neighborhood was conceived and executed as one of Atlanta’s first suburbs. Yet it remains today essentially unchanged and was recently described by the U.S. Department of the Interior to be "significant as the finest example of late 19th and early 20th century comprehensive planning and development in the Atlanta area, and one of the finest period suburbs in the Southeast."

There is a beautifully done Tour of Homes and Gardens each April during the peak bloomtime for the thousands of dogwoods and azaleas that fill the neighborhood. Here are some links:

High on the Lakeland moores we searched and then found the small circle of stones. As often happens I, alone get out of the car in the horizontal rain.
