I see it but can you? The Druid of Wistmans wood.
I found this place both fascinating and frustrating as my knees made it impractical to get around much, along with the fact the interior is closed off to humans right now. However, I spent twenty minutes sat on a rock at the edge just staring into the trees and soaking up the atmosphere of the place...very therpeutic!

A Celtic cross hanging in the sky above Whitby Cathedral - the threat of Druidism hanging over the official church.
The Druid or Altar Stone of Blidworth, Nottinghamshire, UK. This random natural monolith (a glacial erratic) has a man-made hole cut through its centre, said to align with the rising sun at the spring equinox. In a tradition common to other ‘holed stones’ in the UK and Ireland, it is supposed to have healing powers for those who pass through it, symbolising the rebirth of the sick.
There are too many perfect landscape pictures on flickr. You can be damned sure that all those where some idiot wandered into the frame will be binned. I think it's a shame too many landscapes don't include a human, even if it is an idiot. I felt strongly that I should redress the balance, by taking a perfectly good landscape scene where the idiot is very much a feature of the shot.
This is the Druid's Circle (Welsh: Meini Hirion) on the North Wales coastal walk above Penmaenmawr. Wikipaedia says it is 5000 years old. Dare I question their authority? Anyhow the sun remained behind the curtains and rain was spitting in my face, but I only had time to sacrifice so I continued on to the quarry that looms big above the A55 and the little coastal towns below.
This wonderful and evocative stone circle, considered one of the finest examples in Britain, forms part of a complex of ancient monuments on moorland above the town of Penmaenmawr. The circle consists of 30 stones, 11 of which are still standing, set into the inner edge of a low embankment about 35 metres in diameter.
Known locally as the Meini Hirion, or 'long stones' in English, the site was excavated in the 1950s. It revealed a capstone of a finely made cist (burial chamber), with stones, including quartz, scattered unevenly around it. Inside the cist was a food vessel that contained the cremated bones of a child aged between 10 and 12. The vessel is now in the Gwynedd Museum and Art Gallery, Bangor.
A second cremation was found in another pit. A plain food vessel contained the cremated bones of a child aged between 11 and 13, accompanied by a small bronze riveted knife. Children’s remains within these circles may point to spiritual beliefs in youth and regeneration for the communities that used them. These monuments would have been important social places, where people gathered at certain times throughout the year.
A tentative date of 1450–1400 BC was proposed for the construction of the Meini Hirion, which would place them in the Bronze Age, though it was acknowledged at the time that it could be much older, dating from 3000 BC. The ring is not a perfect circle, being slightly flattened on the north-east side where a trackway cuts across. It has been proposed that the circle deliberately avoids this track, which would suggest that the track is earlier. Either way, the Meini Hirion are thought to predate the Druids by many hundreds of years, and the structure only acquired its English name of Druid’s Circle in the 19th century.
There you have it. A fine Druid's circle and an idiot

So not to long ago (a year today to be exact) I posted my first Moc online (that primitive thing I posted two days ago). Anyway its been a pretty good year and I am impressed by how much I have improved thanks to you guys. So I hope you like this new updated version better than the first (if you don't I guess it means I have failed? D: ). I changed up the base and although the rock work ain't the best it works :p I added some leans so it was closer to the original plan and I used a net for the second time in the roof.. The trees are mediocre. Overall I thinks its half decent and beats the original by a slim margin.
so thanks for a good year and keep the C&C flowin :D
A quick shot from yesterday’s workshop in the Lakes. A great group with plenty of laughter and enthusiasm! The conditions were up and down like a yoyo, but there were some magical moments. This image is from Ashes Bridge (well just up from it) the conditions were my very favourite, dark showers, golden light and fantastic autumnal colours!
All in all an interesting day with good light, changeable conditions, plenty of water and ancient stones with barefoot heat seeking druids chatting up one of the workshop clients!!! Oh what a day!

Druids Heath is a district in the south of Birmingham. when they cleared the slums in the 1960s, brand new houses and flats were created for people. Almost immediately these places became unsuitable for habitation. A 1984 investigation "The great British housing disaster" highlighted the problem. Mismanagement and poor building regulation led to almost complete failure of the buildings. This picture was taken on a walkabout led by Jayne Murray, a local artist. This was linked to the Movingstories exhibition housed at the National Trust Back to backs property. We visited locations in Druids Heath and listened to stories about the place. The picture shows a trig point as this is a high area of Birmingham. The three towers in the background are empty and earmarked for demolition. There were also used in the BBC drama "This town"

Gawton's well is a natural spring feeding the upper River Trent. It fills this medieval basin in a walled off area of woodland containing a stand of Yew Trees called Druid's Grove. The poisonous nature of the Yew has caused the ground around the well to become sterile in comparisson with the green woods outside the dry-stone walled enclosure. This makes for a very eerie place indeed. The well is named after a hermit who lived nearby and possibly used the waters of the well for healing purposes.

I've wanted to visit the Druid's Stone for a while. Not sure why I did today as I was parked at Blackden Barn. The stone itself was losing the light so I had to improvise and use the heather to fill more of the frame with interest.

There is evidence that axes from Graiglwyd were exported widely 5,000 years ago, examples having been found as far afield as Cornwall and south-east England. The nearby Meini Hirion, known in English as Druid's Circle, is a prehistoric stone circle. A prehistoric trackway from Bwlch-y-ddeufaen to Conwy runs by the circle.
Now this was a surprise! We were expecting a Class 31 on the 0925 Weymouth - Bristol Temple Meads on 30 January 1975, but instead were graced with there presence of Class 52 No. 1067 'Western Druid' instead. Stone circles in Britain were in fact built two or three thousand years before the druids, and to the best of our knowledge were not druid temples. To medieval and late modern scholars, anything pre-Roman was druidical. In his 19th-century guidebook to the Lake District, William Wordsworth describes Castlerigg as a temple of the druids. The truth is that we know very little about the people who built these monuments and what they were thinking. Castlerigg has a spectacular setting on a small plain ringed by hills, that the builders must have had a reason for choosing.
This building was built for the Ancient Order of Druids Friendly Society in 1846 at a cost then of £1800 eventually rising
to over £2000. Friendly Societies date from the late 18th century in order to offer financial help and security to the
poorest in society. The Druids wereparticularly strong in this area with some 600 members in the mid 19th century. Since those early days the building has had different uses, drill hall, Methodist meeting hall, entertainment hall, hotel, early meeting place for Socialists, and then Masonic Hall
