I painted a chipboard bird to look like a European robin, one of the first birds of spring. It has a forsythia blossom in its beak. Here it is in the cage.
I think I might create a "seasonal bird of the month" with the other chipboard birds and cages I have.
Hooting Halloween owls
Heat oven to 190C/fan 170C/gas 5. Line a 12-cup muffin tin with brown muffin cases. Beat the first 5 ingredients to a smooth batter and spoon between the cases, almost filling them to the top. You may have a little left over. Bake for 20-25 mins until risen and spongy. Cool on a rack.
Beat the butter and icing sugar until smooth. Slice off the very tops of the cakes and cut each piece in half. Spread a generous layer of icing over each cake.
Working on one cake at a time, squirt a pea-sized blob of orange icing onto two Maltesers and use to fix a brown M&M on each. Sit the eyes, two pieces of cake top (curved edge up) and a jelly diamond on the icing to make an owl.

Tile layed out for the completion of this table...which is huge & will have 8 chairs (but could seat a max of 12). This project might be the hardest...never placed tile before.

These are 23W (100W equivalent) soft white CFLs with a 2700K color temperature.
Soft whites are easy to get; I can always swap in "cooler" colored bulbs (4000-6500K) for a more daylight effect later. What is important here is that this bulbs emit 1600 lumens each for a total of 16,000, which is well above the 10,000 lumens needed for SAD therapy.

It was high time to get the lower half of this front door repainted. Red front door facing south is good feung shui, y'know?
Ingredients
25 Halloween OREO Cookies, divided
1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
1 ounce semi-sweet baking chocolate
2 cups thawed frozen whipped topping
1 (3.4 ounce) package vanilla instant pudding mix
1 cup cold milk
3 pieces black string licorice (10 inch), cut into 1-1/4-inch pieces
6 small round candies
1 tablespoon ready-to-spread frosting
2 tablespoons Halloween sprinkles
Directions
Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
Crush 22 cookies to form fine crumbs; mix with butter. Press onto bottom of 12-inch pizza pan sprayed with cooking spray. Bake 4 minutes; cool.
Meanwhile, microwave semi-sweet chocolate and 1/2 cup whipped topping in microwaveable bowl on high 30 to 40 seconds or until chocolate is completely melted and mixture is well blended, stirring after 30 seconds. Cool slightly.
Beat pudding mix and milk in medium bowl with whisk 2 minutes (pudding will be thick). Stir in remaining whipped topping; spread onto crust to within 1/2 inch of edge.
Spoon chocolate mixture into resealable plastic bag; snip off small piece from one bottom corner of bag. Use to drizzle chocolate mixture in spiral motion over pizza. Gently drag toothpick through lines to resemble spider's web. Refrigerate 1 hour.
Meanwhile, decorate remaining cookies with licorice pieces and candies as shown in photo, using frosting to secure pieces to cookies.
Place decorated cookies on pizza just before serving. Garnish with sprinkles.
This four-piece storage unit was purchased for $1 at a yard sale. The wheeled dolly was something I had from another project, but had already set it on to see if it would work when I photographed it.
After sanding, priming and painting it, I had a new, to me, printer stand for $10.
