After digging in the ground below the snow this NortherFlicker came up with nothing but a lot of cold wet dirt on its beak -DSC05141
Stock car racing Midwestern style. Usually done on an unpaved oval track of a half mile or less, this popular weekend diversion really draws a crowd on Saturday night. High powered cars that are basically just a body shell covering a motor and chassis go round and round jockeying for position by bumping, pushing, and drafting each other. The extremely loud roar of the engines adds to the excitement. Definitely a survival of the fittest proposition.
A dirt road leads into the Armagosa Range in Death Valley. The hills here are full of interesting contours, lumps, and bumps. It's a nice road to follow if you have a bent for geology.

Ezekiel 26:12 “And they will plunder your wealth, and they will loot your merchandise, and they will break down your walls, and the houses of your delight they will break down, and your stones and your timbers and your earthen dirt they will cast into the midst of [the] water.”
Ella wants to know why Jimmy isn't bugging her and I want to know why she hasn't been rolling around on the ground getting dust and dirt to cling to her fur. Without knowing quite what to do in this novel situation, she decided to sit still and look at me and I decided to take her picture.
A great opportunity to capture dirt bikes on the track. More to come. The Austin Motorcross Park not far from the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) race track and Austin’s (ABIA) airport.
A gorgeous fine day but very windy.... look at all that dust ! Preparing the fields for planting again. Taken about 2 miles from home. I could see for miles and miles..... this is a cropped image.
This is Heather Ward, AKA Dirt. She is, simply put, the best natural light photographer I know. I want to learn from her.

The evidence that wash racks are a thing of the past is seen pretty well here as this mangy looking cowl drags a southbound up Byron Hill at Hamilton.

This image was taken in 2017, during ArtPrize 9. I like how the people were evenly spaced. The guy on the left photographing the dirt rug, is my son. As you can see, two security guards were present. The attached link is from the artist website.
