How many of us have a, "memory lane up in the headlights"? I have so many, good times with my family fishing and hiking up in the Sierra Nevada mountains. We actually took this road once just to see what is out there and to see if the fishing was any good. It wasn't but the time spent together was worth now that I look at it.
A dusty rider in the Virginia Championship Hare Scrambles in Dinwiddie, Virginia. As I was walking this track, I decided to bring two cameras so I could have coverage without changing lenses. I never envisioned how dry and dusty this race was going to be. I would have never removed a lens in these conditions. It took a long time of carefully cleaning the two cameras when I got home
This vista of the Australian bush is in the Yarra Ranges, North of Healesville in the state of Victoria, Australia.
The winds of recent storms have long since ripped these beautiful red, gold and yellow leaves from their trees. I’m so pleased my final memories of this breathtaking season are of this lovely road which leads into fields soon to be protected behind an old iron gate.

Behind some dirty facade hides an idyll. Beyond mirrored facades of modern buildings in our cities, there are places that remind us that nature and human beings belong together. In a perfect world, we will not survive. Because we ourselves are not perfect.
A lot of steel, a lot of dirt (not visible) -- this piece of scientific equipment at the Biosphere 2 is one of the world's largest test beds to model water flow over sloped soil.
Driving through the wetlands of Seney National Wildlife Refuge in Michigan's upper peninsula. This 7-mile long, one-way, loop road is best walked or bicycled to enjoy an up-close experience. Due to its location in a remote area, it has few visitors to interfere with your visit.
What remains of a once prosperous farm near tiny Argo Fay,IL.This lonely road back to this forgotten farm stretches nearly a quarter mile and crosses a stream without the aid of a bridge....
Sometimes it pays to take these dirt roads-this old barn is a treasure trove of old cars and vintage farm machinery....

The Arlee mailboxes. Every now and then, a certain edit bedevils you, and you're not happy with how it looks. And you try, and try, and try again, and finally come up with what you want. So it was with this photo in Arlee, Montana along a rural laneway with mailboxes. I have seen other versions of this photo, whicn inspired my shot of the MRL nightgas while we were in Montana. While the lighting wasn't perfect, there's something special about the dirt roads with the mountain backdrop.
