I really like the play of light and the patterns created by the buildings reflected on the water.
I've had a busy weekend and am behind on comments so I shall be catching up tonight - HMB!
Actually, I was looking for golden yellow tremors and autumn lorels, but, as is so often the case, nature dictates the finds. The discovery of the red-headed slime molds was of course anything but a stopgap solution. I eagerly set about preparing the tiny creatures out of the deadwood and photographing them in front of a green background (moss). The 60mm Olympus macro had to be upgraded with extension tubes and a Raynox 250.
Cherry Blossoms...
Wednesday was a day for getting out of the house and using the appropriate distancing measures dictated by our governing authorities; we took advantage of a rather warm day and made our way to Joyce Archdekin Park on Hurontario where the cherry blossoms were in full bloom.
I brought my long lens as I knew there was no getting close to them. The city had wrapped all the trees in caution tape and the benches were cordoned off with snow fencing. they even had a security guard posted to ensure the rules were being adhered to.
I kept a reasonable distance and got quite a few good shots of these beautiful Japanese Sakura blossoms.

Joy. It's a short but powerful word. ... Happiness is dictated by circumstance. Joy is more like a deep abiding. Merriam Webster dictionary defines joy as “the emotion evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune or by the prospect of possessing what one desires.” That definition leaves something lacking, however.
Joy, as a spiritual quality, lasts forever. We always have it. Having joy includes feeling good cheer and a vibrant happiness. But joy, in its fuller, spiritual meaning of expressing God's goodness, involves more. It is a deep-rooted, inspired happiness.

Last year I drove around this bay at least twice daily for over a week.
On one day the water was like a mirror and there was blue sky with intermittent puffy white clouds like cotton wool - it was simply stunning - I wasn't driving so couldn't stop and have regretted that missed opportunity ever since!
This golden late afternoon light being reflected amongst pure snow white coated bits of ice looked even better to me.
I remember a while ago reading about George Michael opening the door of his Range Rover & falling out whilst being driven along in the fast lane of the M1 at around 70. I remember feeling very sorry for him and imagining that he must have had serious issues at the time.
Well, do you know, when I first saw this I had only one thought which was JUST OPEN THE DOOR, GET OUT OF THE CAR & GET THIS SHOT NOW!!!
Luckily you can't go very much over 40 on the E10 unless you're barking mad or suicidal, and of course it's not as busy as the fast lane of the M1 plus there's plenty of snow to cushion you if you do fall out.
I didn't fall out but would have happily done so to get this.
5 minutes after this the light on the mountains in the background had gone & 5 minutes after that everything was just dull - you just have to act quickly in this game don't you? (or live a life rueing wasted opportunities)
Always nice to be dictated to by sheer beauty and light rather than getting just another cliche - I already get my fair share of those - we have to do them don't we??? :)

Darwinian Theory dictates that only the fittest species survive. I wonder if this applies to the plant kingdom as well.
This lone pine is growing out of a crack in this rocky outcrop. The trunk is coming out of the rock horizontally before turning skyward. Hanging precariously from the rocks, this tree is subjected to strong unprotected winds, extreme cold, snow and this past summer's hot dry weather. Yet it still grows in the most unlikely circumstances.

… one month yes, and one no, my Provincial Health Authority of Messina sends me on a three-day mission (from Taormina) to the Civil Hospital of Lipari, located in via Sant'Anna…In my spare time, free from work commitments, I dedicate myself to my photographic passion; the photographs that I present here were all taken in the months of this year 2023; I made various photos according to the dictates of street photography (or street photography), I made some portraits, having always met people in the hand, very willing to let themselves be photographed (perhaps it will be ... that the people of the island are open-minded, eager and used to to communicate with strangers..?!), some portraits were made of people intent on their work; all the photos were taken in the city of Lipari, except for two taken in the port of Milazzo, the departure and arrival point of the hydrofoils (but there is also the ship) for the Aeolian Islands. I met (and photographed) the sweet lady, very good and appreciated American artist, Mrs Janette Little (photographed together with her affable and very nice husband, of Aeolian origins); of the talented artist mrs Janette in addition to her portrait I propose two of her works, I had noticed them some time ago, I had wanted to bring some photos of these works with me, now I propose them in black and white because this is a monochrome series, I note however that the originals are in color, for those wishing to see his works, I add the link to his web site below.

Dad, how can there be so much beauty and so much tragedy in the world all at the same time?
"Enough about Donald Trump, already!"
I mean in general.
"Oh. Well, look at it this way: There is beauty and there is tragedy. Like two sides to the same coin. You just gotta hope when you wake up in the morning and flip that coin, that for that day, at least, beauty will outweigh tragedy."
But Dad, the law of physics dictates that if the beauty outweighs the tragedy, it will end up on the bottom of the coin and tragedy on top.
"The law of...? Okay, then it also means that if tragedy gets the upper hand, beauty will come out on top. See? It all evens out."
So there will always be tragedy in the World, then?
"I think it's unavoidable. But I think it's also true that you have to experience the bad to appreciate the good."
Okay, I can accept that. Now, about Donald Trump...

Landsberg is situated on the Romantic Road and is the center of the Lechrain region, the boundary region between Swabia and Bavaria. It is noted for its picturesque historic center.
The town is noted for its prison where Adolf Hitler was incarcerated in 1924. During this incarceration Hitler wrote/dictated his book Mein Kampf together with Rudolf Hess.
With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a beautiful day, be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty surrounding you, enjoy creating, stay safe, and laugh often! ❤️❤️❤️

When in the dark night I await your arrival, It seems to me that everything hangs by a thread. What are honors worth, even freedom, when she comes quick and plays the pipe? Look, there he comes! She throws aside her veil And he stares at me for a long time. I say: «Were you the one who dictated to Dante the pages on hell?» And she answers: "I am that one."

The massive walls on the left and the railing on the right create a feeling of confinement for me. Life often brings this: the path is clearly defined, a corridor with no way out. These are phases of life or situations where you feel "restricted" or where external circumstances dictate what happens next. Do you know that feeling?
The Red Arrows
The Red Arrows, officially known as the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, is the display team of the Royal Air Force based at RAF Scampton. The team was formed in late 1964 as an all-RAF team, replacing several unofficial teams that had been sponsored by RAF commands.
The Red Arrows have a prominent place in British popular culture, with their aerobatic displays a fixture of British summer events. The badge of the Red Arrows shows the aircraft in their trademark diamond nine formation, with the motto Éclat, a French word meaning "brilliance" or "excellence".
Initially, they were equipped with seven Folland Gnat trainers inherited from the RAF Yellowjacks display team. This aircraft was chosen because it was less expensive to operate than front-line fighters. In their first season, they flew at 65 shows across Europe. In 1966, the team was increased to nine members, enabling them to develop their Diamond Nine formation. In late 1979, they switched to the BAE Hawk trainer. The Red Arrows have performed over 4,800 displays in 57 countries worldwide.
According to an RAF press release, the Arrows will fly in a "seven-aircraft formation, rather than nine" this year because two members of the crew have moved to other positions in the air force.
The seven-aircraft display is not unheard of and is used "when a situation dictates, such as illness or aircraft availability".

An amazing house preserved from the past and still a part of now standing tall and proud with a rebuild. The shape and size of any broch is dictated by the need for it and the ability of the builders. Here there appears to have been an amazing development made for strength and for beauty. Once the tower rose into sky and released the smoking signs of life, now the bright preserved ruin remains as a celebration of earlier ways of living.

Part of the grounds of the Mannesmannhaus this cute barn was a favorite of mine and with the leading lines all laid out from me it was hard not capture this image.
The Bergische Land where this style of barn comes from is another place that was hard to make a living agriculturally the rain in the area is extremely high with lots of irregular rocky terrain in the high ground and swampy river and marshes in the low valley areas left little that could be farmed.
Because of the lack of good farmland many areas have hamlets or small clusters of houses of 20 or more that would group together for protection and community but would not support large scale growth beyond its current level into villages.
Once again due to terrible farming conditions necessity dictated that the people became great at other venture in this case livestock farmers and in later life the backbone of the industrial revolution as metal workers, factory workers and miners.
I took this with my D750 and Tamron SP 24-70mm 2.8 G2 Lens at 24mm 1/25, f/11 ISO 100 processed in LR, Topaz Denoise, PS (Lumenzia curves masks and DXO Nik Color Efex)

On April 23 Saint George's Day, the patron saint of Catalonia, is celebrated as well as Book Day. Tradition dictates that the men buy a rose for the women and that the women buy a book for the men.
Legend has it that a dragon was destroying the surroundings of a village (Montblanc, in the Catalan adaptation) until its inhabitants decided to give it one person per day, chosen by a draw, to thereby prevent any further destruction. One day it was the turn of the King's daughter and when the dragon was about to devour her a knight appeared, Saint George, and killed the beast. A rose bush emerged from the monster's blood from which the knight picked a rose and gave it to the princess.
Saint George's Day is a civic festival throughout Catalonia, a day on which Catalan culture and identity are vindicated. In city streets publishers and bookshops set up book stalls mixed with rose sellers and many writers offer to sign their works.
Kenny Wayne is a well known blues, boogie-woogie, jazz and shake-your-body funk piano player. Born in Spokane, Wa, he grew up in San Francisco, but left his heart in Canada. He is a great story teller and referenced his musical idols at this concert as Fats Domino, Ray Charles, Big Joe Turner and Jimmy Reed. Kenny moved to New Orleans, Los Angeles, lived in Hawaii for a while and in 1981 settled in Vancouver.
Not sure why, but possibly heart was involved. Kenny Wayne is known also as a songwriter and vocalist. I have seen him few times and his colourful metallic jackets and beautiful hats are as legendary as his music. He just turned 80, but he is not slowing down. His European tour in January, with concerts in Switzerland and Italy, is expected to sell out. He is down to earth, talking to fans after the concert and signing CDs. He recently moved to Ontario. Kenny 'Blues Boss' Wayne played with sidemen David Daniels- guitar, Rick Donaldson- drums, Nick Succhi- bass, and featuring the talented Trombone Charlotte.
Opening for the 'Blues Boss' was supposed to be a blues trio, but today's economy dictated that Kenny Wayne was doing solo introduction.

Life can feel foggy at times. Our vision can get clouded and we lose sight of our purpose. We know what it is, yet we cannot see it, so out of fear we cower back. I have felt this way a lot lately, but I have to remember that feelings DO NOT dictate reality. As I read His word, I see the fog lift and I regain my sight and start taking steps back towards my purpose. Fog can easily throw us off course and get us lost, but praise be to God that He clears it away so that I can see once again!
Taken at Oberg Mountain after waiting an hour or more for the fog to clear up a couple of hours after sunrise. Fall colors are finally beginning to burst on the North Shore. Thankfully I met a very nice couple to chat with as I waited for the fog to clear.
I was most likely just a bit over 9,000 ft. high by this point. The seasons dictate everything about the environment seen here. The snow here is likely to be measurable by yards and meters soon.
This photo is taken from very nearly the same place but looking in the opposite direction of the next photo down in my photostream.

Compact
Not much going on here in the way of "photography", they were taken on a very cheap compact before I became interested in trying to make a decent image.
Taken from a mountain that looks down on Pamplona. Not a huge mountain, old folks can take a sunday morning stroll to the top, but it is, nonetheless, a mountain, interesting because it has a very tragic history.
At the top, submerged, is a derelict fort, it was built in the 19th century for one of those silly wars between people who wanted to install their preferred monarch, but it has a more shameful history after it was converted into a prison by a right wing dictating a-hole called Franco, in the thirties. At one time nearly eight hundred revolutionary prisoners escaped but, sadly, most were recaptured, 211 were shot, and just a handful got to France.

The Blazing Falcon is a lesser-known Exo-Force mech that only appeared in 8108, facing the Mobile Devastator. I took a lot of liberties adapting it, and focused on it's aerial capabilities to dictate the design. More pic on my instagram!

As previously mentioned, the 74th members Meeting at Goodwood this year featured a number of Porsche 917's both on display and doing demonstration laps round the circuit. Quite possibly the most iconic of these is the Gulf liveried 917 that featured in the Steve McQueen film Le Mans. At the 74MM there were 3 917's that were shown in the Gulf livery, including this car, chassis 917-031, which forms part of the Rofgo Collection of Gulf Liveried cars.
The Porsche 917 was designed by Hans Mezger, chief engineer at Porsche. The car was built using a light spaceframe chassis that was pressurised with gas to detect cracks in the welding. Hans Mezger designed the original 4.5ltr V12 engine, which used two Porsche 2.25ltr flat-6 engines mated together. The gearbox, mounted longitudinally, was designed to take a set of four or five gears as dictated by the circuit and conditions. To ensure that the size of the car remained compact, the driver actually sits with feet positioned ahead of the front axle.
The 917 made use of components made of titanium and magnesium to provide strength and lightness, while the the gear knob was made from balsa wood. One of the clever techniques used to save weight was to put the oil through to the front cooler via the tubular spaceframe chassis itself rather than adding independent pipework that would add weight and complexity.
The Porsche 917 ran in the 1969, 1970 and 1971 World Sportscar Championship. Initially it was described as being incredibly unstable, using all the road at speed by factory driver Brian Redman. When suspension modifications did not resolve the issue, it was found that the long tail was creating an amount of lift not seen in sports racing before. As the 917 was significantly faster than anything that had run at Le Mans before, the aerodynamic lift was a new experience for the teams involved in this kind of racing.
Interestingly, the works racers at the time preferred the Porsche 908 due to its stability, especially on the more complex and technical tracks. This however caused a problem for Porsche who had a surplus of 917's to sell and so wanted to continue promoting the car. To do this they initially approached BMW and asked for their drivers Hubert Hahne and Dieter Quester to compete in the 917 at the 1000km Nurburgring, but after initial testing BMW refused. This led Porsche to turn to Englishman David Piper and Australian Frank Gardner, but they struggled to finish in 8th place whereas the Porsche Team entry of six 908's finished in the top 5 places.
At the 1969 24 Hours of Le Mans, the inexperienced privateer and British gentleman-driver John Woolfe crashed and was killed when his Porsche 917 came off the track at Maison Blanche on the opening lap.

Conditions really dictated I shot this way this morning. Quite happy with the mix of light, turning trees and frost. My first sunrise in a while with no mist. I was getting used to it.
The Tetons are indeed grand from all perspectives, although proper decorum dictates appreciating the view from the side I live on.
We long for freedom
We long for the future
If we hope
We will be our master
Without one to dictate
We will be free
Hope, a dream
A wish to be free
From obssession
To act because we want this
To ignore the will of others
to be we because we want this
Not because they want that we are
We long for freedom
We long for the future
Hope, a dream
A wish to be free
To Prologue of the Story "The Doors"
Free from the suffocating conformity of her past world, she marveled at the liberated realm she had discovered. The societal norms that had once bound her like chains now dissolved into mere wisps of vapor, revealing a vibrant and eccentric world where individuality flourished without judgment. Questions that had haunted her previously now seemed trivial, like echoes from a distant dream.
In this new reality, she reveled in the absence of societal expectations and the freedom to explore her own desires and beliefs. The constant bombardment of opinions and judgments from the masses, which had once plagued her thoughts, vanished into oblivion. Instead, she found solace in the profound connection she forged with her own inner voice.
The constructs that had once defined her every move — the endless rules, the bizarre limitations, and the arbitrary boundaries —seemed like relics of an oppressive regime now a distant memory. She marveled at how people had blindly accepted these artificial constraints, allowing them to dictate their thoughts and actions.
The weight of others' opinions, which had once weighed heavily upon her shoulders, now lifted as though they had been carried away by the ethereal winds. The suffocating pressure to conform to an ill-defined and ever-changing social norm was gone, replaced by a sense of liberation and self-discovery.
Amidst the mesmerizing symphony of strings and cascading melodies, her senses soared to unimaginable heights. As she immersed herself in the graceful movements of the stranger’s body, a kaleidoscope of vibrant hues and ethereal impressions exploded before her eyes. The boundaries between the known and unknown blurred, giving way to an unrestricted exploration of a world where questions and limitations ceased to exist.
Within this newfound realm, the music consumed her, dissolving the trivial distractions that once cluttered her mind. The beauty and perfection of This Enigma, in its celestial dance, became the focal point of her being, eclipsing all preconceived notions and social norms. The age-old debate of human decency, plastic surgery, and societal expectations melted away, leaving only an unbridled appreciation for the perfection of form.
With each passing chord, the enchantment grew stronger. Time seemed to stand still as she reveled in the harmony of movement and sound, oblivious to the outside world. Questions of identity, purpose, and morality faded into insignificance, replaced by an overwhelming sense of tranquility and fulfillment.
In this realm of boundless beauty and peace, she discovered a freedom that transcended all earthly constraints. The body became a canvas upon which the universe painted its masterpiece, a testament to the infinite creativity and wonder of existence. And in the embrace of this celestial symphony, she found solace and liberation, a sanctuary where the superficiality and trivialities of the mundane world held no sway.

An imposing structure, in the streetscape, the Elora Post Office, together with the library next door, creates a visual focus for Geddes Street.
The Elora Post Office is significant for its important role in the community from the time of its opening, in January 1912, when it quickly became the focal point of the community. Through both appearance and function, the Post Office fostered the development of the village, from the Grand River up Metcalfe Street, to Geddes Street. In 1971 the government planned to demolish the building and replace it with a more modern building. However, for the first time in Elora's history, the community came together, to save a historic building. At this time an addition was added to the rear of the building and the interior underwent renovations.
The Elora Post Office is a significant representation of the Romanesque style of Federal Post Offices built in the early 20th century. The building was constructed from a modification of the standard design, for post offices, dictated by the Department of Public Works. The architect, W.A. Mahoney of Guelph, prepared the modified drawings and oversaw the construction. He chose to abandon the standard red-brick design, instead using sandstone from Cararact, 60km away. He also built the Fergus Post office, which together with the Elora Post Office, are believed to be the only stone post offices, from this period in south western Ontario.

I have gone back to using a tripod at this time of the year. The low level of light, I am getting older and my ability to hold a camera and lens steady has lessen are factors which dictates the changes in technique.
But I had a good morning with several opportunities to view some interesting waterfowl up close.

... every two months, my Provincial Health Authority of Messina (Sicily) sends me on a mission for three days (from Taormina) to the Civil Hospital of Lipari, located in via Saint Anne ... In my spare time, free from commitments of work, I dedicate myself to my photographic passion; the photographs I present here were all taken in February of this year 2022; I took photos according to the dictates of street photography, I made some portraits, having always met people in the hand and very willing to let themselves be photographed (maybe ... that the islanders are open-minded, eager and used to communicate with strangers ..?!), some portraits were made of people intent on their work, some fishermen were intent on repairing their nets, a lady showed me one of her beautiful work, a blanket she made with knitting needles , hanging on her balcony (it reminded me of the shawls my grandmother made, also made with hand knitting needles); all the photos were taken in the city of Lipari, except three, taken in the dark in the port of Milazzo, the port of departure and arrival with hydrofoils (but there is also the ship) for the Aeolian Islands.

The front facade of the building now occupied by Mizuho Bank and Forvis Mazars (chartered accountants) situated on the London street curiously named "Old Bailey", just down and across the street from the criminal courts building, also referred to as the Old Bailey. Flickr is full of pictures of this colourful building (each of those 'books' is a different colour) so I decided to show it in a slightly different way, taking the colour out of it and letting the strong lines of the building dictate the feel of the shot.

#macromondays #Bokeh
The latest #macromondays challenge #Bokeh prompts me to share this picture with you.
Certainly! "Bokeh" (pronounced boh-keh) is a term in photography that refers to the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image. This effect is produced by a lens and is distinct from a simple blurry background; bokeh characterizes how pleasing and aesthetic the blurred points of light appear.
Key aspects of bokeh photography include:
Aesthetic Quality: Not all blur is considered bokeh. The term specifically describes the pleasing or aesthetic quality of the out-of-focus blur. This might mean soft circles of light or a smooth, creamy background that doesn't distract from the main subject.
Aperture: Large apertures (small f-number, e.g., f/1.4 or f/1.8) produce a shallower depth of field, leading to more pronounced bokeh. This is why lenses with large maximum apertures are often prized for their bokeh-rendering capabilities.
Lens Construction: The shape and quality of the bokeh are influenced by the construction of the lens, particularly the design and number of aperture blades. A lens with more rounded aperture blades will typically produce rounder, softer bokeh.
Types of Bokeh: Different lenses produce different types of bokeh. Some might produce circular bokeh, while others might produce more hexagonal bokeh, based on the shape of the aperture blades.
Subject Distance: The distance between the camera, the subject, and the background can affect the appearance of bokeh. Generally, having your subject closer to the camera and farther from the background will produce a more pronounced bokeh effect.
Background and Light: Bokeh is particularly noticeable when there are points of light in the background. This can be natural light filtering through leaves, city lights, or any other light sources in the background.
Bokeh is often sought after in portraits, where a creamy, blurred background can help the subject stand out. However, the quality and appearance of bokeh can be subjective; what one person finds appealing, another might not.
In the broader context of photography, bokeh is just one tool in a photographer's toolkit, and its use should be dictated by the desired mood, story, or effect the photographer wants to convey.

Santa Ana winds stoked fires Monday in the San Fernando Valley that burned an estimated 10,000 acres, destroyed more than a dozen homes, and contributed to two deaths.
After an exhilarating day exploring the early stages of the Nantlle Ridge, daylight dictated it was time to head back down the steep flanks of Y Garn, back to the car in Rhyd Ddu.
John and I reluctantly clambered back over this stile saying goodbye to the dramatic "sharks fin" of Mynydd Drws-y-coed and the ridge that had captivated us on this short winters day.
We will definitely return again next Spring to sample more of Nantlle Ridge's delights.

This is so true for the snails. You can't just plop them where you want, they are dictating the whole shoot. If they feel off, they just stay hidden in their shells. This series has taught me so much patience.
How are you feeling now days? Patient or stressed out?

They wanted to dictate our taxes and lives without even giving American colonialists a vote for representatives in the British parliament. They should have understood us well enough to know that we would not be a member of any club that has any say over us where we do not have a seat at the decision table.
It was just a matter of time. “No taxation without representation,” came the call.
Who did they think we were? We thought of ourselves as British, but a strain of pioneering Britons who were highly individualistic, spoiled, demanding, and accustomed to getting our way. That's who. Pouring salt into that unrepresentative legislative wound, the overlords had a system in which a crazy king at the helm, a vestige of a long worn-out and archaic legacy, had way too much power to dictate.
See what happened?
Hallelujah!
No man has the right to dictate what other men should perceive, create or produce, but all should be encouraged to reveal themselves, their perceptions and emotions, and to build confidence in the creative spirit.
Ansel Adams
With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day, be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty surrounding you, enjoy creating, stay safe and laugh often! ❤️❤️❤️
There is no repeat or rewind button...
But if we live this one life well,
One life is all we ever need..
With every passing seconds..
We get nearer and nearer to the finishing line..
Have we been living our life?
Or have we been living the life others dictate on us..
What does happiness feels like?
Perhaps..
It feels like the gentle heaving of our chest with each breathe we take..
It feels like the faintest sweetness of floral scent whiffing by..
It feels like the softest caress of breeze playfully touching our face...our hair..
And perhaps too, it feels like the tender curving of our lips as we smile at the little wonders that we see..
Most of all, to feel safe knowing the people you love will cushion your fall, instead of being the reason for your downfall..
