Here's another of my re-edited "early years" shots (from before I even thought about being a photographer).
Sunset from Feb. 2005 at Camp Liberty, Iraq. I happened to be leaving the DFAC (dining facility) with a couple of coworkers just as this beautiful sunset appeared. I told the one that was driving us back to work to stop for a moment, and I rolled down my window and quickly got this shot.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
(same info as the other photos in this set):
My first real digital cameras were a couple of Sony DSC point-and-shoot models that I got back around 2004 or so. They may have been about 5 megapixels at best, and there are probably modern cell phones that can take better quality photos then those cameras did. When I first got one it was for taking pictures of our first kid, and then also our next kid that quickly followed. During 2004-2005 as I was working and traveling internationally I first started to get interested in photography as a hobby. I started out just taking snapshots that documented my surroundings. Towards the end of my time overseas I started to put a little more thought into it. I had zero knowledge about photography so if I got any shots that were halfway decent it was only because of pure luck or instinct.
All of these travel photos were some of the first photos I ever loaded to flickr back when I started using flickr in 2005. Once I got more serious about photography and moved to a DSLR (and learned a whole lot more), I changed all of my older photos to "private" because I didn't want any potential customers, etc. to see all of my old horrible work from those days that doesn't stand up to my current work. If these places I shot were local, I'd certainly revisit all of them and do a much better job of shooting them. However, the chances of me ever getting to return to all these places is slim, and I still want to be able to share photos of these places I've seen. So, what I just decided is that maybe every so often, I'll pull out an old photo and edit it to make it look the best I can with my current editing techniques. I made an "Early Years" logo to put on them so that hopefully nobody looks at them thinking they're new shots and wonders why my quality is going downhill.
Current edit done with Nik's Capture NX2 (with Color Efex Pro 3), and Photoshop CS5 (with Nik's Dfine 2.0).
