Today, I had the opportunity to photograph the various apparatus used by Sacramento's Drowning Accident Rescue Team (DART). Here are a couple of teasers while I work on getting the other pictures uploaded.
Many thanks to Jason at DART for the invitation.
Having been out with decker 6402 on Arriva's last day on service 100 on 31st August 2013, a few weeks later and Arriva Kent & Surrey 3109 (T109 LKK) gets a spin on weekend route 101, this time to replace 6402 which had died!
Darts never went on the 'old' 101 (Ladymead park and ride), so perhaps this is the first time a Dart has been on a '101' since Richard Kirwin snapped Dart 3094 re-start the 101 after snow in December 2010...? www.flickr.com/photos/leopard26r/5271949592/
Either way, it saved me a trip out on Sunday to get a single decker on it!
Stagecoach took over park and ride routes 100, 200 and 300 from Monday 2nd September 2013 - their Dart 34854 (GX06 DXC) is seen behind on the 200. The SCC contract for the 100 no longer includes weekend operation, so Arriva are running it on the weekends as the 101.
Also - partly - featured is the E300 Stagecoach Aldershot depot have pinched from Basingstoke, allegedly as a spare for the park and ride, 27837 (GX62 BWJ).

The GSM Dart, generally known as the only true South African production car, introduced towards the end of 1957. Not only was it designed and built by South Africans, but it was a little sports car that turned out to be years ahead of its time.

The Dodge Dart is an automobile originally built by Dodge from 1960 to 1976 in North America, with production extended to later years in various other markets. The Dart nameplate was resurrected for a Fiat-derived compact car introduced in 2013.
The Dart name originally appeared on a 1957 show car featuring a body designed by the Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Ghia. The production Dart was introduced as a lower-priced, shorter wheelbase, full-size Dodge in 1960 and 1961, became a mid-size car for 1962, and finally was a compact from 1963 to 1976.
The 1970 Dart's dual taillamps were given over to the badge-engineered Plymouth Valiant Scamp, while the 1971 Dart received new smaller quad taillamps that would be used through 1973. The Custom 2-door hardtop coupe became the Swinger, and the standard Swinger became the Swinger Special. Dodge gained a version of Plymouth's popular Valiant-based fastback Duster and was to be named the Beaver, but when Chrysler's marketing department learned that "beaver" was CB slang for vagina, the vehicle was renamed the "Dart Demon".
As was the case with previous Dodge rebadges of Plymouth Valiants, such as the 1961–1962 Lancer, sales of the Demon lagged behind those of the Duster. With optional hood scoops and blackout hood treatment, the car was advertised a performance car. The Demon's Dart-type front fender wheel lips and Duster-type rear wheel fender lips reveal the car was essentially a Duster with Dart front sheetmetal and other minor styling changes. A new audio option became available for 1971: Chrysler's cassette-recorder. Unlike the 8-track tapes, the cassette player was relatively compact, and it was mounted on the console or on its own floor-mount casing. This unit offered an available microphone in which one could record their own dictation.
The Swinger 340, Dart's performance model, was replaced by the Demon 340 with optional hood scoops and blackout hood treatment. In 1971, Chrysler abandoned their longstanding corporate practice of installing left-hand-threaded wheel studs on the left side of the vehicle; all-wheel studs on the Dart thenceforth used conventional right-hand threads.
The 21 almost always operates on Darts (similarly to when it ran on Alexander Royales until its transfer to single deckers in January 2009). On Mondays to Fridays 11 vehicles are required to operate this route which is a 15 minute service, though with an extension at either ends of the diagram. The outer sections therefore are usually 30 minute services.
The 21 is based at Marine depot and the Dart fleet currently (as of early 2010) comprises 21 Pointers, fleet numbers 64 - 85 (except 69). All of the Central and Marine Darts came into service from the second half of 2002 (52 reg-plate) with the 15 Longstone Darts (86 - 100) entering service from the
second half of 2003 (53 reg-plate).
My friend and fellow enthusiast Peter Barclay, from Sunderland came to visit in January 2010 and we travelled from Clermiston to Leith Links on this Dart, no. 83.
At the terminus here two passengers had travelled on the wrong 21 and wanted to go to the Royal Infirmary which is on the longer diagram. The driver was really helpful and guided them to where they needed to go next.
Standing outside the bus by now he then asked Peter and I if he could help us. I just said we were bus enthusiasts and he said "oh that's interesting I was looking at some pictures on the internet and eh..do you know a chap called
Stuart Montgomery"? Peter was astonished and I don't know who looked the more taken aback the driver or me! What a small world it is.
Well Tony if you're reading this then thanks for all your help it's been great. You're a real pal and I do hope we'll see your photographs and stories soon.
STOP PRESS: As of February 2010 Dart 64 has been transferred to Central garage.
