Female.
Species: Sympetrum striolatum.
One of the most abundant European dragonflies, the male common darter is typically a vivid red colour and the female turns from a yellow colour to a deep chocolate brown. The common darter can be found in a wide variety of wetland habitats, but generally prefer to breed on still waters such as ponds and lakes. Info: The Wildlife Trusts.
Many thanks to people who view or comment on my photos.

There is this place, called by some "Tranquility Bay" where many Australasian Darters were born. There are still several families enjoying the special ambience of this place.
Up early to catch the light this little tree caught my eye. A bit difficult to get closer as the farmer was guarding it with a barbed wire fence :-)
Sorry to my contacts for my absence yesterday.
A record shot for my local reserve. Find dragonflies hard to see here...nice to catch in a meadow field at Baron's Haugh NR
Lovely to see plenty of Darters on the wing at Snape warren today! This Ruddy Darter was the only one that stayed still long enough for a photo!
