Æschne bleue - Aeshna cyanea (mâle)

In late March 1987 401 was the third unit back in a three unit consist on Lake States train 11 heading for Soo Yard when a wheel busted and started coming apart just after he's went over the west switch at Dafter. He bumped along on the ties thru the trailing point east switch and for about a half mile then tore up the facing point switch into the unused Algoma Tube Division plant and they were able to get stopped just before the M28 crossing without derailing anything except 401's number 2 axle. It could have been quite a pile up but the old geep stayed pretty straight the whole time. Damage amounted to the 401's number 2 axle, about a thousand cut ties and the Algoma Tube Switch which was just removed at that point as the plant had been closed since the early 80's.Here is 401 on April 3, 1987 still at Dafter but now in the siding after a crane had been used to replace the front truck. The unit was moved to Shoreham for further work a few days later but spent a couple weeks sitting in Dafter. The coil steel cars behind were stored at Dafter due to slow business at the time.

This is Harry, well we don't know his actual name, he's obviously someones cat but he's been visiting for about 6 months now, he is here more than at his home. He's basically become our fostered cat. He is a beautiful boy and loves to play, especially with my camera lens, this is a rare occasion when he didn't try and paw it to death!

Hi everyone,

When I heard that daft punk were breaking up, it made me sad and I wanted to listen to their albums again (it's not the kind of music I normally listen to) and what a source of inspiration and creativity!

MOC 100% built to the sound of Daft Punk.

The WC did some track work on the Soo Yard-Gladstone line not long after taking over from the SOO. It wasn't in terrible shape to start with but after the late summer 1985 removal of the COFC traffic it didn't rank to high on the SOO's list of priorities so there were quite a few 35-30mph slow orders especially from Engadine east where the Dresser trap rock ballast stopped and more or less pit run ballast took over. WC soon did a lift or two with new ballast from Engadine to Soo Yard and train speeds returned to 40mph over the entire distance. Train 34 makes good use of the track work as he slams thru Dafter with 704, 6559 and 584 on July 21, 1990.

Posting last nights SNS of 401 at Dafter in 1961 reminded me of another visit of 401 to Dafter in spring 1987. This was the last SOO/Lake States incident of any major kind east of Gladstone that I was aware of. Early on the morning of March 30, 1987 401 was trailing a GP9, ex MILW GP20 eastbound on Lake States train 11 when the engineers side wheel on the number 2 axle broke and started to disintegrate at track speed as they passed over the east switch at Dafter. They bumped along cutting ties all the way to the Algoma Tube switch(a facing point which was destroyed) and finally came to a rest near the M-28 crossing. Local MOW crews from Soo Yard, Newberry and Trout Lake converged on the scene and made track repairs along with simply ripping out the long unused Algoma Tube switch. Then Soo Yard and Gladstone car repair went to work on 401 and chained up the offending axle and moved it back to Dafter to clear the main until more suitable repairs could be made. This shot is the 401 trying to crawl over the west switch late in the afternoon of March 30 into the siding at Dafter.

A nice mix of power leads WC train 34 west on June 16, 1994 at Dafter. 6543, 4151 and 589 only have 19 cars at this point in there journey from Soo Yard-Gladstone. WC really grew business up here about three hours later I shot this same job leaving Trout Lake with nearly 70 cars.

A late October afternoon in 1978 finds 2229B leading train 912 east near Dafter. by this late in the year northbound nose light is usually out of the question. I had caught a ride up with my parents who were on there way to Sault Ste. Marie shopping, because my car was broke down. I asked them to drop me off pretty much out in the middle of nowhere so I could get this picture. After an hour wait the train showed up and I got my shot and near dark my parents picked me up on there way home. One of my more time consuming shots!

I haven't felt this good about myself for a long time. for some reason everything has slotted into place and my whole being seems to be at one. Makes a change from the usual not really sure what hell I am doing thoughts

If I ever was to have been a woman the one you see here is who I would have wanted to be, here look, style, persona and friendships is all I could have asked to have been.

This life has truly been a gift made possible by all my friends I have made here.

Thanks guys and dolls :-)

Ok their is a reason behind my daft outburst and that is I have just watched an amazing film about a girl with a little extra who has travelled from Brazil to Italy with the aim of earning enough money to have the operation to become a woman. With luck the below link will work

This is West Burton falls. not a small waterfall. these little feathery fellows aint scared about a little trip to the edge. oh, i knows they probably aint ducks.

A "quick build". Took me about 5 hours to build in 4 days. I planned to add more detail to the helmet and the visor was supposed to be black but I ran out of pieces, as usual. The photo's not great either, but I really didn't care to take a good photo.
