Staten Island Ferry ride at sunset with my brother Peter, his daughter Kim, and Kim's friend Blanca - all visiting from Germany. I did not realize the Staten Island Ferry is free! At sunset photos of the Statue of Liberty are shot directly into the sun, but otherwise it's a nice time of day to take the ferry.
I don't necessarily feel safer traveling with Coast Guard cutters armed with machine guns...

I found this stone cutter chiseling AIA's latest gold medal winners name on the lobby wall. Edward Larrabee Barnes will be awarded the gold medal at a black tie event at the Building Museum in a couple weeks. This is why I bought a tux last week. Mr. Barnes is actually dead so he won't be collecting his award but I'm sure his family will be there to pick it up. It's the BIG award in architecture land. Frank Lloyd Wright, Frank Gehrey and Louis Kahn all got one of these.
I wonder where you find stone cutters these days?

A female leaf cutter bee just starting to chew out a round chunk of this passion fruit vine leaf. I had never seen this before and was amazed. I had been taking pictures of a spider so had my camera in hand at the right time to catch her. She worked very quickly and flew away with the leaf piece for her nest!
This shows the nylon spacers of a couple different sizes, that can be interchanged to make smaller or longer tube beads. You will need two threaded rods, 4 wing nuts for the rod, 5 blades, and 8 nylon spacers for each cutter. I use 4 smaller ones to act as a spacer on the ends before the wing nuts. I have secured one wing nut on each rod with duct tape and just unscrew the other end to change out the nylon spacers.
