Leaf-cutter bees nest in holes in plant stems, dead wood, cliffs or old walls, and can be seen in gardens. They famously cut discs out of leaves (they particularly like roses), gluing them together with saliva in order to build the 'cells' in which their larvae live. The larvae hatch and develop, pupating in autumn and hibernating over winter.
The original box that came with my late Great Grandmother's Duncan Hines vegetable cutter set that was manufactured in May of 1958.
It even still had the original instruction manual.
Thank goodness that my Mammaw kept the box with the cutter stored in the closet, it was quite a find and the cutter set is made of American stainless steel.

This Leaf Cutter Bee has spent over a week building cells in a flower pot on the table under my lounge window. She got confused when this geranium petal hid the entrance to her burrow.
We have watched her progress and have promised to look after her offspring! We call it our 'Bee Nursery'
