This was actually inspired by Miri-Moonsong and a shot she did. One of the cookie cutters she has I remember from my mom's collection but it appears she no longer has it. Here are some of her older ones I remember from childhood that are still around

No cutter for these.. The first time I ever made these cookies (2 dozen)..I hand cut each of them. Took me forever and said I would never do them again. Well...I obviously DID do them again but I made my own cutter this time. Crazy???...Yes..but not so crazy to do this many without a cutter. Details were hand painted in, including the spots on the giraffe's. They took about 3 days to complete.
Someone at Iittala must be paying attention as the dishes in the famous finnish lake design didn't make very good cookie cutters ( www.axis-of-aevil.net/img/2004_12/aaltocookies.jpg ) so they started selling cutters for 5 euros. :)

Another week and a couple more treks out of town to scout and shoot more possible pictures. The same week of getting things ship-shape in the new apartment. Another trip down to storage to rummage. I dragged some necessary and some interesting artifacts out and back. Most people got old stuff in storage, I got artifacts like a color Besseler enlarger.
I knew I ought to score a shot of this toy for the few who find that they always needed one and will rush right out to secure one. This is a Deckle cutter. Now for anyone who has had or used some Fiskar scissors would assume that scissors could never be made cheaper, poorer or sloppier, are all wrong. Fiskars can manufacture stainless scissors by punch press that are almost not worth using. Fiskars succeeded with this unfortunate pair of scissors; their efforts to make them from plastic has succeeded although apparently some steel was still needed.. Personally, I have some German stainless cutters that no one else can find or touch. Our studio had the fantastic Kutrimmer paper cutter that could trim near molecules off a stack of paper. Nevertheless, tortured use can actually get deckle cuts by using these cutters. I have not investigated the possible availability of useful deckle cutter. Don't look for these in quality equipment of office supplies. Instead look at hobby / craft-junk shops for them. These will work if you find the technique.
Deckled Kodak snapshot and card printing paper used to be available in bulk. I seriously doubt there is any on the market today. In the world of paper manufacturing the Deckle is the frame that holds the screen which is used to dip paper pulp from a vat. (Thanks, Phil) The pulp is dried and processed while the frame is being recycled. Hand and machine made papers usually had rough laid edges before sliced into sizes. When the rough edge on papers were shipped and used at print shops, the name deckle was transferred to the edges. Of course, it became harder to find paper stocks with the rough edges so the wise-guys decided to fake the edges be special trimming.
The shot was 1/3sec @ f/8 @ 70mm on the 24-70mm f/2.8G Nikkor normal-zoom. I had to capitulate and drag out the tripod for this shot. The hand-held shots didn't make it.
taken inside the dark tropical jungle house at the zoo Krefeld. I used a 300m lense but had to switch to ISO 800. It is not sharp and could be better but I like the photo because I like the colony that worked there.

Found a bag of vintage cookie cutters at Goodwill yesterday. Pretty neat! A bunch of them had green handles. These are aluminum.

Process to make the spring potato type chips
Take a medium potato, washed. Insert the skewer, blunt end first, into the center of the potato.Put the skewered potato into the chipstix cutter.Push the button or turn the handle.Put the potato into 180/200 degree C oil for max 3 minutes.
(Depending on the size and strength of your deep fryer, multiple units can be deep fried at the same time)Remove chipstix potato from the oil.Allow excess oil to drip back to your oil bath.Hand the chipstix skewer to the client.Allow client to use the spices themselves.Normally 2 people would handle this process:1 to take the orders/money and then hand product to client. To keep the napkins and spices topped up.The other to cut and deep fry the potato. more details call us at 0091 - 9703202020

Wandering around a local antique/vintage/bric a brac store yesterday I spotted a tatty old brown box housing a quantity of wooden jigsaw pieces. It was priced at a mere £2, so I thought I'd take a punt just in case it was complete, although I didn't hold out much hope.
So yesterday evening I tipped out the pieces and made a start. Initially thinking some pieces had lost their top layer, I soon realised they were just areas of sky and that the image was most probably a countryside scene. Best of all, the puzzle was complete!
So here it is: a cottage scene with a signature at bottom right, 'Jacob Brooks'. I can't find anything much more than his dates (1877-1954) and that he was born in Birmingham to immigrant
Jewish Polish/Russian parents, so if anyone can identify the date, maker or cutter of this little puzzle I'd appreciate it.
It was housed in an old envelopes box so I thought I could date it that way, but with no luck.
