Jura farmlands in morning mist

This image is included in a gallery "Colour" curated by stephen cole.

This interesting rock formation was taken in the Cavendish Cliffs area, just off the Terre Rouge Lane, not far from the Green Gables. It was a fine autumnal afteroon. The beauty of the striking red soil cliffs against the deep blue colour of the Southwest Basin water was simply too hard to do justice in photography.

Prince Edward Island is an island province of Canada. While it is the smallest province in terms of land area and population, it is the most densely populated. The island has several nicknames: "Garden of the Gulf", "Birthplace of Confederation" and "Cradle of Confederation". Its capital and largest city is Charlottetown. It is one of the three Maritime provinces and one of the four Atlantic provinces.

The geography of Prince Edward Island is mostly pastoral with red soil, white sand, and scattered communities. Known as the "Garden of the Gulf", the island is located in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence north of Nova Scotia and east of New Brunswick, with which it forms the Northumberland Strait.

The coastline of the island consists of a combination of long beaches, dunes, red sandstone cliffs, saltwater marshes and numerous bays and harbours. The beaches, dunes and sandstone cliffs consist of sedimentary rock and other material with a high iron concentration which oxidizes upon exposure to the air.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This image is included in 2 galleries:- 1) "Color" curated by Oswaldo Ordóñez and 2) "Silo / Water Tower / Tank, Art / Mural - Australia" by Glass Angel.

This image was taken on a very hot, overcast Autumn afternoon, using my Samsung S24 Ultral mobile phone: it was the hugeness of the silos in a bleak landscapes that impressed me. I'm very pleased that this image made Explore and be able to reach a wider Flickr audience.

Artist: Adnate

Location: 445 Sheep Hills-Minyip Road, Sheep Hills, Victoria

The GrainCorp Silos at Sheep Hills were painted by Adnate in late 2016.

When you see the Sheep Hills Silos for the first time you are absolutely blown away by the colours an the sheer splendour of this silo. The astonishing details in the eyes of the subjects will turn you into a story teller as you recount what you have been to anyone who will listen!

This mural is of a Wergaia Elder named Uncle Ron Marks, along with a Wotobaluk Elder, Aunty Regina Hood. They stand on either side on two young children Savanah Marks and Curtly McDonald.

Adnate wanted to shine the spotlight on the area's young Indigenous people, but also show their strong ancentral connection they share with their elders.

Adnate has spent much of his career telling the stories on Indigenous people and their native lands by painting wonderful murals of the them throughout Australia. (SILO & WATER TOWER ART: VICTORIAN REGIONAL GUIDE, ED1-2024)

The GrainCorp Silos at Sheep Hills are the 5th silos included in the Australian Silo art trail and the 3rd in the Wimmera-Mallee region of Victoria.

Introduction:

My name is Derek Michalski and I would like to invite you to join me for three days of photographing Venice - one of the most inspiring and photogenic cities in the world.

I have been visiting Venice for over 10 years now, and am returning there shortly to check locations and viewpoints and make sure you will receive the most from the workshop. I am passionate about very long exposure photography and will lead you thorough one of the most beautiful cities in Europe with a wealth of classic compositions and stunning locations to shoot fine art long exposure photography.

Location and workshop overview:

This workshop will give you a fantastic opportunity to explore Venice outside of the holiday season It is designed for anyone interested in exploring the world of Fine Art Long Exposure black and white or colour photography, from beginners wanting to learn a new type and style of photography to those wishing to take their photography to another level.

The beautiful City of Venice is a true photographers’ paradise – and an ideal location for long and very long exposure photography, both black and white and colour.

We will visit many of the iconic locations Venice has to offer and will also explore some of the less well known areas that lend themselves well to fine art minimalist photography. Each day will begin just before sunrise and finish just after sunset to maximise the amount of shooting time available. After the morning shoot we will return to the hotel for breakfast and a little downtime to recharge batteries and refresh ourselves. We will then explore the city further until lunch. After lunch there will be an hour break after which we shall resume the session. Every day will finish after sunset.

Some of the locations we will photograph:

Rialto Bridge

Piazza San Marco

Palazzo Ducale - The Doge’s Palace

Ponte Dell’Accademia

Bridge of Sighs

St. Michael's Cemetery

Church of San Giorgio Maggiore

Le Zitelle church

Riva Degli Schiavoni

The Grand Canal

What will you learn:

A complete and comprehensive overview for shooting long exposure photography using ND filters and ND grads.

Create beautiful compositions for architecture and cityscapes.

In-camera settings to achieve clean and sharp images ready for post processing.

Using live view manual focusing.

Understand depth of field and hyperfocal distance to get the maximum sharpness from your lens and out of your RAW files.

Accurately calculate long exposure times to get perfectly exposed images using 6, 10 and 16-stop filters and grads.

Correctly read histograms to get the most out of your RAW files.

Post Processing: A complete step by step demonstration of my black and white post-processing workflow (using Lightroom CC, Photoshop CC, Nik Silver Efex Pro and DxO Optics Pro 10)

Booking deadline: February 15th, 2018.

Please note the weather conditions in Venice in March can be challenging and you will need a set of warm clothes and wellingtons in case of high water.

Lockdown curation of Cape Clear drives continues with more record shots. This time a Yellow-browed Warbler from the East playing hide & seek in a Willow - as per usual; difficult to get anything even half-decent as can be seen below. Much easier when one is netted and ringed as below also.

A species that breeds primarily in Siberia and winters in SE Asia. However, it is recorded annually in varying numbers in Ireland in Autumn like this one on Cape Clear.

I am part of a flickr project/flickr group called "The Co Curators' Resource" (see the group concept here: www.flickr.com/groups/curatorsresource/)

I am in the process of curating Irina Souiki's collection of excellent photos. The way I do things, it helps me to immerse myself in looking at her photos all the through - every photo in her stream, then step back and get some perspective from the images. Today, while snarfing espresso and a bagel at a local coffee house (not Starbucks!) I thought I'd write some of my initial impressions and thoughts in my sketchbook ... and along with that made some sketches, from memory, of some of her photos that had really stuck with me. I was trying to find a common thread or concept that I could focus on for the curating project. It's going to take another visit to her photostream before I can come up with my final long list. Then comes the short list. Then trying to write something meaningful about each photo I choose.

I'm having fun getting to know Irina through her photos, understanding her approach to photography and trying to articulate my responses to her imagery. It's a challenge. I hope through this process, to gain some perspective on my own artwork and photography.

A Hull to Sheffield (via Doncaster) DMU takes the slow line on 29.4.67

An image from an album of prints by the Revd David Benson, a curate in Hull when he took most of his photographs. Nearly all from the late 1960s, he not only chased steam (plenty of such photographs from others), but didn't ignore the first generation diesels, of which there are some fantastic images. Also a good number of shots around Hull Docks. Loaded into the Flickr album 'A Curate's Collection' in reverse order, so when I've uploaded them all you can browse the album as it was compiled.

Curating last August. ;*)

The astromaterials curation team at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston has completed the disassembly of the OSIRIS-REx sampler head to reveal the remainder of the asteroid Bennu sample inside. On Jan. 10, they successfully removed two stubborn fasteners that had prevented the final steps of opening the Touch-and-Go-Sample-Acquisition-Mechanism (TAGSAM) head.

Erika Blumenfeld, creative lead for the Advanced Imaging and Visualization of Astromaterials (AIVA) and Joe Aebersold, AIVA project lead, captured this photograph of the open TAGSAM head including the asteroid material inside using manual high-resolution precision photography and a semi-automated focus stacking procedure. The result is an image that shows extreme detail of the sample.
