This is Butterfly species # 47 for this season

ws 51 - 100 mm (2.24 - 4 in)

I caught this one in the forest today. They will fly until it gets cold, while sustaining themselves on tree sap, rotting fruit, and animal feces, until they prepare to overwinter.

Mourning Cloaks and other species such as Commas, have the ability to overwinter in cold climates. They enter a state called diapause. Butterflies produce antifreeze proteins to prevent ice crystallization within their cells during diapause. As in with the case in hibernation, metabolism also slows down.

More information below.

Nymphalis antiopa, known as the Mourning Cloak in North America and the Camberwell beauty in Britain, is a large butterfly native to Eurasia and North America. The immature form of this species is sometimes known as the spiny elm caterpillar. Other older names for this species include grand surprise and white petticoat. A powerful flier, this species is sometimes found in areas far from its usual range during migration.

These butterflies have a lifespan of 11 to 12 months, one of the longest lifespans for any butterfly. It is the state insect of the U.S. state of Montana, adopted in 2001.

When I came here first there were small fractures of totally clear cristalls in the dumps in the slope beneath the mine. Now I saw no clear transparent cristall. And clearly turists have tried to hammer out parts of the calcium. carbonate vends in the cliffs.

I photographed the most transparent stone I saw, but left it where I found it.

Cordillera de la Sal (Salt Mountains) was formed million of years ago. It was an old lake, which bottom went raising by the same movements of the terrestrial coast which gave origin to the Andes Mountains. Moulded through time by rain, wind and the Sun of the Atacama Desert, its final form that we know nowadays counts with a great variety of natural sculptures, different types of stratifications and varied colorations by the mineral diversity of the place.

Thank you for all your visits and kind comments throughout the year. I really appreciate it.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to view, comment, and fave my photo. It’s really appreciated

This Winter brought us the gift of snow down in southern Georgia. It was the largest snow of the past 30 years. I carefully journeyed over some icy roads to view snow and ice on the marsh. The marsh grasses were completely frozen. It created a beautiful crystallized look. It would only last for a couple of days, but I do plan on sharing a few more from these snowy Winter days down south.

Wishing everyone a wonderful day ahead. Thanks for the favs and kind compliments. They are much appreciated!

The Châteu Enveloped in a White, Frozen Beauty!!

That late morning was really frozen in Belgium !! -6C!! The snow had become crystallized, the waters deeply frozen ! And my son Nicholas and I, decided to visit the Château (…De La Hulpe), and immortalize with our cameras its frozen , charming Beauty!

For years and years I follow within my Wonderland the same path, my ….”secret path” – though no secret at all…!! This spot here I think is one of the most photogenic ones within the magical domaine of the Château!!

You've applied the pressure

To have me crystallized

And you've got the faith

That I could bring paradise

I'll forgive and forget

Before I'm paralyzed

Do I have to keep up the pace

To keep you satisfied

Things have gotten closer to the sun

And I've done things in small doses

So don't think that I'm pushing you away

When you're the one that I've kept closest.

For eons I have waited, sitting alone in the labyrinth watching as my counterparts fled to other worlds but not I. I could not, cannot leave, my heart is forever sealed, the core of this maze, the apple crystallized, as my power rose and the greed of man kind swelled so did my core. It towers above me, only a shard is needed to give me physical form... and a shard is all it took to summon me. Across the endless cosmos the chanting of a worthy vessel echoed, the voice of desire strong enough to call on me, to reach me in my void, to extend an invitation to their world without thought to consequence. The fool who's name I don't even know, who's body I now inhabit, looming over him my shadow, personifying Greed for another place entirely. I will take my time in this world, know it, and consume it as I have done all others for eternity. I am Eden of Greed, and this is my new form.

Went out the other morning in my garden to take some pictures but could only find weeds on my lawn to shoot. I thought this was interesting with the ice on the grass weeds. I now see weeds in a different light since I started taking pictures. I don't know if grass weeds have any merit but it was all I could find...sorry

Svartifoss (Skaftafell)l 20210716

Svartifoss is a waterfall in the south of Iceland in Skaftafell/Vatnajökull National Park.

Svartifoss means black falls because the waterfall is surrounded by dark lava columns. The hexagonal basalt columns were created when lava cooled very slowly so that the molten rock could crystallize.

Although Svartifoss only has a single drop of appr. 20 meters, it is a very special waterfall in a beautiful surrounding. Few waterfalls drop off a cliff with basalt rocks looking like a church organ. The source of the river Stórilækur that feeds Svartifoss lies at the edge of the glacier Vatnajökull, near the mountaintop Kristinartindar. The river Stórilækur has a length of 7,38 km before it ends in the river Skaftafellsa.

Abstract art that appears on a winter window.

L'art abstrait qui apparaît sur une fenêtre d'hiver.

This rocky cliff formation, supposed to resemble the petals of a rose, lies on the La Orotava road to Teide National Park, just beyond Aguamansa. Believed to be about 30,000 years old, it was formed by lava flows thst merged into columns and then cooled, causing cracks or seams in the crystallized rock.

A legend about the Lindenstein rock formation on the Tromm in the Odenwald tells of a treasure guarded by wild men beneath the granite blocks.

At the "Lindenstein" rock group, Tromm granite is exposed. About 330 million years ago, quartz-rich molten rock crystallized 10 to 15 km below the then land surface, forming this rock. It consists mainly of feldspar, quartz, and mica. The rocks' current shape was created by what is known as "woolsack weathering." The upper sections of the ridge were torn into blocks and then rounded off by subsequent chemical weathering.

An atmospheric halo can occur anywhere, given the right atmospheric conditions, such as outside the polar areas, in areas where storms are developing or there is bad weather, or in temperate zones when the atmospheric air has light crystallized clouds. due to the cold (almost always clouds of the cirrostratus type).

The halo is caused by ice particles suspended in the troposphere that refract light, generating a spectrum of colors around the Moon or the Sun. (Source: Wikipedia)

(Fuente: Wikipedia)

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to dedicate a whole day to photograph the lavish inflorescence of the cherry blossoms in St James' Park ( I will soon post some photos) as there are perhaps no other flowers that have the power of mesmerizing me for hours, as those pink, heavenly beautiful clouds of petals.

I tried various compositions and I was photographing the trees reflected on the water from the Blue bridge when I turned my face towards the opposite side of the bridge and I saw this spectacular golden cloud...The Horse Guards building and the London Eye were bathed in the glorious, warm pastel shades of the twilight. I changed my perspective and I took as many shots of this view as I possibly could. Some moments have to be crystallized forever...and shared...that's the magic of photography.

Thank you for watching and for all your much appreciated feedback, it really means a lot to me.

I have not been logging on often recently, but I have never stopped photographing (I have been working on a few projects) and I have now thousands of images from various places in the world, that I would finally love to share here with you. Your support is precious to me and I will get back to each and every one. Greetings from an almost summery London:-)

Urgut is a town in the Samarqand Region of Uzbekistan and the capital of Urgut District. It is known for the grove of plane trees, some of which are more than 1000 years old. Urgut is located in mountainous areas.

Urgutlik (also known as Urguti in Tajik) people are a subgroup of ethnic Uzbeks who track their ancestry to people from a town of Urgut. There are almost 500,000 people who describe themselves as Urgutlik. Urgutlik people frequently use Tajik words in their daily conversation. Majority of the population speak Tajik and Uzbek.

Urguti people are heavily involved in basic mercantile trading in their respective locations and in farming. In the town craftsmanship is also well-known which has been maintained traditionally throughout the centuries.

Urgut's biggest market with varied and relatively inexpensive merchandise attracts folks even from Samarkand, the capital of the Region.

Nawat is a traditional Uzbek crystallized sugar that is served with tea, sometimes instead of regular sugar or caramel. Nawat is made from concentrated sugar syrup or grape juice with the addition of certain spices. Hot syrup is poured into large boilers, in which the threads are stretched horizontally, around which the sugar crystallizes. Nawat has different shades: from whitish to light yellow and dark brown. It can be added to tea or enjoyed in the mouth, like a candy. Nawat, consists of pure glucose and fructose and has a number of health benefits. People use it as lozenges for cough and sore throat, drink with green tea as a folk remedy for many diseases. Nawat has a warming effect, gives strength and energy, is useful in hypothermia and colds.

Parwarda (national Uzbek caramel) - traditional Uzbek sweets in the form of a white small pillow, sprinkled with flour. Parwarda contains only sugar, flour, lemon juice or citric acid. First, the sugar is boiled with a caramel mass, then white candies are formed and these are rolled into flour. The procedure is quite time-consuming (below you can watch the video: how to prepare parwarda). In Parwarda, sometimes herbal additives or spices are added, which give the sweets not only delicate colors and refined flavors, but also healing properties.
