The bonfire sets the field in the evening,
the antlers of an enraged deer.
The whole valley is stretched out. By its loins,
wind the wind.
The air crystallizes under the smoke.
Sad yellow cat eye.
I in my eyes, walk through the branches.
The branches stroll along the river.
My essentials arrive.
They are choruses of choruses.
Between the reeds and the low afternoon,
How strange that he calls me Federico!

a transparent variety of calcite, or crystallized calcium carbonate, originally brought from Iceland, and used in demonstrating the polarization of light (see polarimetry)
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iceland_spar
When I came here first there were small fractures of totally clear cristalls in the dumps in the slope beneath the mine. Now I saw no clear transparent cristall. And clearly turists have tried to hammer out parts of the calcium. carbonate vends in the cliffs.
I photographed the most transparent stone I saw, but left it where I found it.
On the east coast near the Otago Peninsula on New Zealand you will find the Moeraki Boulders. They are huge, lie half in the sand and are scattered all over the beach. You can see them only at low tide. Geologists say that they originate from a crystallization process of muddy submerged sediments. There are always new rock globes, which came from the cliffs. The beach looks as if it was designed by a landscape artist.

Slightly bouncing off an idea by Bill Smith ( Byzantiumbooks ), a fellow member of "PANO-Vision" who suggested that I take a Winter version of the same shot used in my previous image ( "When it's So Hot All You Can Do is Dream" ) and fuse it with the Summer one. This is one Pano-Sabotage shot with no double exposure. The Pano technique is such that it creates unforeseen and unpredictable results. Each shot is a unique situation where the unpredictable variables reign supreme.
A great idea but one for the future as I don't have the software to layer 2 images. I did go to the same spot to take the shot but the lighting was poor and there wasn't enough snow to make it interesting. And like the day of the previous Summer image, the temperature again was extreme .... only this time it was very cold.
On my way home I spotted THIS opportunity with pictoral and lighting elements that coalesced nicely for an early morning Winter scene in a large downtown urban park. While it's not the same shot, "Winterized", it does act, I think, as a nice Winter "foil" for the hot Summer image. So, I've united the two by titling them as if they're two Janus faces of the same idea - beautiful, natural lighting conditions on days of extreme temperature having a powerful effect on the mind.
With big thanks to Bill Smith !!!
With this image I also want to take my hat off and bow deeply to Alan Walden ( A. Walden ) of Wisconsin, I believe, for the constant inspiration of his peerless Nature photography. One might not think it, but being a big-city downtowner who produces a lot of photo manipulated, urban imagery, I secretly wish I that I could take such stunning images in Nature and impart his same Zen-like feel to them.

The first flowering of ivy occurs at 10 years of age: in itself almost insignificant, it then produces as fruit black and globose berries highly toxic to humans but appreciated by the birds that eat them during the winter period. Furthermore, ivy is a honey plant: bees use the nectar of its flowers to produce a rapidly crystallizing honey that they will use as a hive reserve for the winter.

Europe, Portugal, Algarve, Sotavento, Tavira, Salinas , Brdge, Sluice (slightly cut from B&T)
Typical for the Tavira salinas is the charming and effective 'makeshift' technology (sometimes also called ‘appropriate technology'): the sluices, bridges and little dikes.
On the horizon is Tavira with its suburbs.
Some background info about the exploitation of the ‘salinas Tavitenses’: The rhythm of that exploitation consists of a few distinct phases. During the first one, the seawater is let into the shallow basins. After that the sun does its work. While the water gradually evaporates, it often turns red due to the invasion of the Halobacterium salinarum a salt-loving bacteria.
Before the water is entirely evaporated a part of the salt crystallizes and is harvested as 'flor de sal'. When the evaporation is almost complete the fine salt crystals are harvested. After that a basin rests largely empty, waiting for a new cycle. The salt pans are operated by Rui Simeão Tavira Sal sea salt works .
This is number 18 of Salinas de Tavira & Santa Luzia.
15-october-2021: once per year I pass through this cirque of the Julian Alps, perhaps the most beautiful of the main 6 (3 in Slovenija and 3 in Italia) that characterize this alpine section in its northernmost sector, all open immediately to the North of the main Julian massifs.
These U-shaped valleys worked by imposing glaciers now extinct (except for 2 residual glacial bodies on Montasio and Canin/Kanin), sheltered from the mild Mediterranean currents and in the shade for long periods between mid autumn and mid/late winter, host varied and very interesting landscapes, including centuries-old forests, large moraines and, in this case, 2 alpine lakes.
For the first time (on Flickr) I post a photo of the Lower Lake of Fusine, the one surrounded by a forest made up of imposing and shady Spruce and Beech trees (Picea abies and Fagus sylvatica).
The southern shore, that in this shot, towards the Mangart massif, is always in shadow and it is necessary to "play" a lot with the dynamic range to be able to make the remarkable colors of the forest visible.
So, contrary to popular belief, landscape photos are complex, especially if in wide-angle and including various different environments (valleys, mountains, water, sky, forest...all together!), which are divided into multiple curtains at different distances, different exposure, different focus, different colors and different types of absorption and reflectivity of the light according to the environments (coniferous forests absorb a lot of light, snow, on the other hand, reflects it almost completely, and in the middle there is everything else and everything in one photo).
All this must be shaped, to obtain a successful photo (which often contains subjects for several other sub-photos, clearly less complex, with a single subject and often also with a single exposure), a photo that maintaining a good level of detail and sharpness, you enhance every single part, every single curtain with the best light and a homogeneous exposure, that is to be able to capture the lack of light of the darkest areas (valleys, forests, areas in shadow from backlight ...) without overexposing the lighter ones (snow, mountains and above all the sky!!).
If the sky is blue it must remain blue (and not white/burnt) despite the darker areas having been overexposed and, at the same time, the blue sky and the well exposed snow must not lead to underexposure of the other parts.
In this case the contrast between the Lake and the forest in total shade, a strong transversal brightness in the middle and the mountain group again in the shade requires a lot of work in the pre-shot settings (helping everything, as far as possible with a Bridge, also in the processing of the Raw file in post production) and inevitably, accept some compromises, such as sacrificing a part of the detail and a part of sharpness in favor of a more homogeneous exposure and a natural brightness (nature makes masterpieces with light , difficult to fully crystallize in one shot, even with higher segment cameras).
Sacrificing the "individual" for the good of the "whole".
The Superior Lake of Fusine, instead, is more varied with rocks, beaches and low plants and much better illuminated (more homogeneously) on 3 sides of 4, therefore much more photographed.
In any case, in this period and up to the beginning of March, the sun only penetrates from SOUTH-EAST, where the Mangart and Ponze/Ponce mountain ranges have a lower altitude, allowing it to pass, therefore, towards mid-morning and only for a couple of hours until lunchtime, then everything ends up in the shade and a bluish monochrome prevails if the sky is clear.
An impressive iceberg showing off it's shimmering blue crystallized coloring and black volcanic ash that has made some very artistic patterns.
This particular day in Iceland was a balmy 15/60 degree day.....nothing like what we'll be seeing here in Manitoba this week. We're definitely starting to feel the winter chill!

Romagnano al Monte is a ghost town with a bleak melancholy. Time remained crystallized on November 23, 1980, the date of the devastating earthquake that struck like a merciless ax on Southern Italy. At the entrance of the town there are buildings with modern architecture, built in the seventies, which clash with the ancient houses of the village. This helps to accentuate the estrangement effect, amplifying the echo of uneasiness. Several buildings have collapsed or crumbling, but it is still possible to find faint traces of the life of the past: kitchens furnished with chairs and tables, old newspaper clippings, rusty cans. The visit to the Church of the Madonna del Rosario, dating back to the 17th century, is impressive and moving to say the least. The building is striking for its magnetic beauty that contrasts with the surrounding desolation, made of rubble and collapsed beams.

For years and years I follow within my Wonderland the same path, my ….”secret path” – though no secret at all…!! This spot here I think is one of the most photogenic ones within the magical domaine of the Château!!
Thank you to everyone who took the time to view, comment, and fave my photo. It’s really appreciated.
It was cold and foggy this morning, and in these special conditions the humidity of the air crystallizes on the tufts as ice. This is my friend Grape
On the same bluff as on previous photo, above Villa Creek beach. Nominally private property, but adjoins the State Park.
For scale, the one at top right that looks a little like a hollow skull is, well, somewhat bigger than a human skull. Say, 18 in 45 cm) long for the hollow part.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tafoni will get you up to speed. This odd cellular weathering is widespread in our coastal greywacke sandstones, and is thought to be from salt spray crystallizing and breaking off bits of the rock. A bit like ice freezing and breaking a container. This set is unusually dramatic!
