Albury Library|museum The Story of Albury..Photography : Jules Boag
Weaving together the story of Albury from its first contact with the Wiradjuri people, traditional owners of the land, to the city we know today. This world-class exhibition, told through an engaging collection of objects, oral stories and film, is on permanent display in the main galleries of the LibraryMuseum.
Crossing Place traces the settlement of Albury by land and water - its growth into a city, its Federal ambition and the role of the Albury Wodonga Development Corporation. Items from the various shops, cinemas, services, railway, religious insitutions, schools and hopitals piece together a history of urban ambition.
Three pillar showcases pay tribute to pivotal events in local history; the construction of the Hume Dam, the impact of foreign wars on Albury's families and a stormy October morning in 1934 when Albury saved the KLM Uiver DC2 airliner from disaster.
Integral to the story is the Murray River, and children can explore a river installation via a special 'kids only' display of river artifacts, animals, sounds and smells.
Crossing Place is the starting point for many of the education programs offered by the LibraryMuseum. There is an education resource for school teachers, and guided tours can be arranged for members of the public.

Park Crossing High School designed by Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood is currently being featured in the National Building Museum's Designing for Disaster exhibit in Washington, DC. Alabama is the only state that currently requires Storm Shelters to be integrated into new schools including K-12, 2 year and 4 year colleges. Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood is a leader in designing storm and tornado shelters into educational buildings capable of withstanding 250 mph winds and debris. We design storm shelters in order to minimize travel times needed for students and teachers to reach safety quickly, and to minimize additional costs of construction. Services provided include Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, and Environmental. For additional information contact info@gmcnetwork.com or see www.gmcnetwork.com
