While crossing a prairie dog colony, we (Bucky and I) caught sight of this guy looking for a late afternoon snack.

A railroad crossing off the beaten path in the town of Mojave, California.

One minute I'm peering in through the broken entry door, trying to make sense of the shadows within. Next thing I know I'm inside, my mind racing with the visuals of this shattered old house. It's a lot to take in, being inside a place like this. Part of me wants to pause and take in the environment; another part of me is impatient and wants to start shooting immediately. Everywhere I turn there's another incredible photo opportunity. So for the entirety of my stay here, my mind is switching back and forth, composing and taking photos, but wondering what is this or that, how did it get like this or that; who lived here; and the odd guiltiness about occupying someone's living space even though no one has lived here in years and never will again. Eventually I duck back through the passage into daylight and all of this mental commotion recedes. Only then do I realize the full extent of my immersion into this place. Perhaps an hour has passed during which I have thought of nothing else. Like I said, it's a lot to take in.

The eastbound Zephyr is making its station stop on the siding at Green River, about 1 hour and 45 minutes behind schedule. Most sidings are perfectly parallel the main track they are next to. Green River, however, is an example of one that strays slightly from the mainline alignment.

Bridge over Pinios river at valley of Tempe.

View of the pedestrian bridge that crosses this small section of the Potomac River as it cuts across Olmstead Island there at Great Falls. Well into the blue hour, the mix of that light and the city lights of Washington DC suburbs on the clouds was very pretty as the stars started to come out. A pretty evening, and nice there with the flowing river drowning out any other noise.

Worth sticking around for this view as the darkness set in. Though it was a little spooky there all alone ;)

With the recent rainfalls from the Spring storms, the Arroyo Trabuco is more full than usual for this late in the season. Metrolink F59PHI #879 races over the Trabuco Creek bridge, with a matching "new livery" consist.

Crossing gates stand guard at a rural road crossing between Grantville and Perry, KS on the UP Kansas Sub while a severe warned storm approaches from the west. The clouds were getting pretty angry at this point.

A fuel tanker makes its way across a bridge skimming the edge of Lake Pontchartrain, silhouetted against a glowing sunset. The long pillars of the bridge stretch across the water, casting dramatic shadows that ripple with the lake’s gentle movement. This image captures the intersection of industry and nature—where vital infrastructure meets the quiet beauty of Louisiana’s coastal landscape.

I met up with Neil Hulme this morning (who was looking remarkably good despite having 4.5 litres of whisky bought him for his 50th birthday yesterday!). We had a wander up Great Intake with the intention of shooting down toward Little Langdale but the light over to The Langdale Pikes was just too good to ignore.

The Severn Bridge (Welsh: Pont Hafren), sometimes also called the Severn-Wye Bridge is a motorway suspension bridge spanning the River Severn and River Wye between Aust, South Gloucestershire (just north of Bristol) in England, and Chepstow, Monmouthshire in South East Wales, via Beachley, Gloucestershire, a peninsula between the two rivers. It is the original Severn road crossing between England and Wales and took three and half years[3] to construct at a cost of £8 million.[4] It replaced the Aust ferry.

The bridge was opened on 8 September 1966, by Queen Elizabeth II, who hailed it as the dawn of a new economic era for South Wales. The bridge was granted Grade I listed status on 26 November 1999.[5]

Crossing the Knottingley & Goole section of the Aire and Calder Navigation at Kellingley, with the three remaining cooling towers of Ferrybridge Power station as a backdrop, 66137 is now on the final stretch with yet more Biomass for Drax. Nature looks to be now softening this once heavily industrialised area with a family of swans seemingly quite happily feeding in the canal waters.
