One of the peculiarities of Crenshaw's digital scoreboard is that the pixels are "strobed" rather than continuously active. Everything is flashed sequentially at a rate high enough to utilize the human eye's "persistence of vision", in a manner similar to motion pictures -- which are just a sequence of still photographs.

If the scoreboard is photographed at my typical exposure time of 1/800 second -- used to "freeze" basketball motion -- then only part of the scoreboard will be visible. The exposure time has to be increased to about 1/60 second in order for guarantee that all the pixels will be seen as illuminated. This requires holding the camera very steady to avoid motion blur and I'm not always successful in doing so.

No Crusing! This is the most common sign found in Leimert Park. The idea is to discourage prostitution. It also manages to prohibit a vibrant village district with people on the streets.
