I guess I seem happy

when you look and you see

me sat here

looking at everyone naturally

so many come and look

and wondering at what they see

I also look and think

sometimes I feel it's me !

Poem from www.flickr.com/photos/beverleyplaya/

sometimes we feel part of a herd . . .

there are many of us

yet our voices arn't heard

we like to roam free as birds fly in the sky

yet are captured and often confined . . .

and we do not know why

people come and stare it's true

we hear clicking noises often too

a flash and we wonder

what next and why

Compositionally Challenged: Week 9: Shadows. Subtle lighter and darker areas help define a delicate and soft portrait.

I photographed this Oscar Niemeyer cultural center, digitally manipulating the background to create a dreamlike atmosphere. The spiral staircase and cylindrical structure embody the architect's signature style, while the altered background transforms the reality into something more surreal.

The Great Elephant Migration:

A Coexistence Story

Twenty-six life-size Indian elephant sculptures parade across the back lawn of The Breakers as part of the first American stop of this traveling exhibition.

The Great Elephant Migration is an outdoor art exhibition presented by Elephant Family USA in collaboration with Dodie Kazanjian of Art&Newport and various contemporary artists. It promotes human-wildlife coexistence as a solution to biodiversity loss.

The sculptures were created by The Coexistence Collective, a community of 200 indigenous artisans in the Nilgiri Hills of South India. They are made from lantana camara, an invasive weed that encroaches on wildlife habitat.

Other elephant sculptures are displayed outdoors at Rough Point Museum, owned by the Newport Restoration Foundation, and Salve Regina University’s McAuley Hall. Another elephant is at the Great Friends Meeting House, owned by the Newport Historical Society.

Each elephant is available for purchase through The Great Elephant Migration website, www.thegreatelephantmigration.org. Funds raised from sales will benefit non-governmental organizations performing conservation work around the world.

(FYI, more than a dozen people scattered in front of and throughout the exhibit were removed from this image using the content-aware and subject-aware "spot removal tool" in LRC. This is a redux of my initial import and I have corrected about all the flaws possible. Version 1 deleted)

Low tide early morning with gulls crossing the frame. The birds actually photo-bombed the image and were very far to the left creating an imbalance. Used generative fill in PS to create more beach/waves on the left, then re-cropped. Very minimal experience using it but worked out pretty well.

A moment's reflection - Southbank Parklands

Classical elements typically refer to earth, water, air and fire. I decided to give this photo the title “Elements”, as in my eyes (and in reality), all these elements exist there, with the exception of fire which one can substitute with light.

I am not very much into creative editing, but occasionally I like to experiment with different styles. The photo was taken three years ago early in the morning at a Pinus nigra forest in Troodos Mountains, Cyprus. I knew from the moment I took the shot that this is the editing approach that I was going to follow. But ever since the photo has been resting in my hard disk waiting for its turn.

For those interested, the photo was taken with Nikon D750 and Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8; 1/160s exposure at f/8 and ISO 100. After basic corrections, I used the path blur mode to create the motion.

Thanks a lot for stopping by, your feedback and likes are much appreciated!

PS: I owe this post to my friend Ole Henrik Skjelstad. A couple of weeks ago I posted this photo on Facebook and I never thought it was worth posting it here too, precisely because creative editing is not something that I am good at. Ole Henrik was the first to comment and encouraged me to do so.

Ford officially designated their wood trimmed station wagons of the 30's and 40's as the "Deluxe". The iconic vehicles became known as "Woodies". This image was captured "Under the Oaks" at the annual Vero Beach Car Show. Creatively presented with wooden canoe matching doors.

Or is it a giant sunflower that attracts downy woodpeckers? LOL!

For this week's group challenge, I knew I was going to do something with one of my neighbor's beautiful sunflowers. I was going to grow it out of a chair or in a tree or ??? Finally, I decided on the woodpeckers I had gotten pictures of through my kitchen window. I did this on my phone, so the quality of the birds isn't as great as that of the camera. I love the look of the sunflower taken with the M Zuiko 60mm macro lens, so even with distant birds at an imperfect window angle, I'm pretty happy with the result.

Carl Zeiss Jena Biotar semi automatic exacta type with 10 blades. The least sought for version. In my opinion, for all wrong reasons. It does not have 12 or 17 blades. So what, for f2 lens you will not really closet it to make bokeh shots. And that is the only advantage of many blades. Semi automatic system was clunky and less useful than preset and full automatic. Not really an issue if one shoots wide open all the time or on the modern digital camera. None of those systems works any more on digital camera and one need to measure light on the aperture one want to use.

Optically it is at par if not better than previous versions and coating is better for sure. It swirls, it gives kinda cooler colours

Anyway, this one is heavilly edited in Darkroom

Shadowland...

At the end of October we hiked into the park using the south entrance where the tunnel goes under the parkway. Karen was a little ahead of me. I took two shots in rapid succession the first shot was at a very low shutter speed and there was some intentional camera movement, the second shot i quickly refocused and shot at a higher shutter speed; I then combined the images in post layering the second shot overtop of the first and using the erase tool to blend the two layers into one image. then i flattened the image and saved it.

Minimalist abstract of a baseball field dugout. Yellow wall and blue sky. The original from 2023 was in square format. I used generative fill in PS to obtain a larger "Landscape" version.

Happy Sliders Sunday!

A rain shot with some added editing, and thanks to the lady's black trousers, it has gained a hint of Lowry, I think.

Hope it stops raining before too long!

And the 'before' shot is right HERE.

Wine is made from grapes. Grapes are fruit. Fruit is good for you. Therefore, wine MUST be good for you ... especially when you add more fruit and chocolate coffee beans.

Since I didn't have an Infrared filter I've used Photoshop to create something close to an infrared appearance. These colours appealed to me better than the outcome of some others I had. There was a lot of playing with the sliders

No matter how cluttered and distracting the background is with all the feeders and 'stuff', whenever a rare moment like two Red Headed Woodpeckers showing up at the same time, at different feeders, I had to grab a shot to document the moment... and then try to hide some of that clutter with 'creative editing.'

One Redhead grabbed a few bites at the seed log, and the other grabbed a few bites at the suet log, and then they flew off at the same time, in the same direction.

I can only hope there was a baby waiting for them to show up with something good to eat. And pretty soon that 'baby' will be shown where to go for food!

Another photo taken by night at Alvor beach. I had two problems during this photoshoot : it was raining and I didn't know how to cope with the artificial light on these rocks. I shoot RAW and played with Lightroom to obtain this result. :-)
