This is a view across the dale to Bank House Brow Plantation and Egton High Moor in the beautiful Glasidale.

Glaisdale is a beautiful dale set in the North York Moors National Park arguably displaying God’s craftsmanship at its best

The scenic hillside village of Glaisdale is on the Esk Valley Railway and sits at the mouth of the dale.

Within the dale is Glaisdale Head Methodist Church (note church not chapel) which was built in 1821 It appears more like a house

The Methodist Church is situated in a very peaceful and tranquil place towards the upper part of the valley and has its own graveyard, a very unusual feature for a Methodist place of worship

The Ottoman sultans' affinity for Chinese porcelain marks a fascinating chapter in the cultural exchange between the East and the West. Beginning in the 13th-14th centuries, the Ottomans actively imported Chinese porcelain, specifically pieces from the Sung, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. Rather than adhering to the tradition of burying such items with deceased relatives, the Ottomans chose to integrate these exquisite porcelain pieces into the grandeur of the Topkapi Palace.

The collection at the Topkapi Palace is a testament to the Ottoman rulers' appreciation for the craftsmanship and aesthetic appeal of Chinese porcelain. Remarkably, even after more than 400 years, over 10,000 pieces have endured and are still part of the palace's collection. The preservation of these items is a testament to the care and value placed on them by the Ottomans.

Considering the daily use and proximity to the palace's kitchens and dining rooms, one might expect wear, breakage, and pilferage to have taken a toll on the collection. However, the pieces on display today defy these expectations by being in remarkably good condition. This highlights not only the resilience of Chinese porcelain but also the meticulous care and appreciation the Ottoman sultans had for these treasures.

The Topkapi Palace collection of Chinese porcelain stands as one of the most significant in Europe, showcasing the enduring legacy of cross-cultural interactions between the Ottoman Empire and China. The collection provides a unique glimpse into the historical and artistic connections that transcended geographical boundaries, enriching the cultural tapestry of both civilizations.

Horezu ceramics is a unique type of Romanian pottery that is traditionally produced by hand around the town of Horezu in northern Oltenia (Vâlcea County), close to the famous Horezu Monastery. It reflects many generations of knowledge and skills development of pottery, which is why the craftsmanship of Horezu pottery was inscribed on UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists in December 2012.[

The wooden church of Urnes is a 12th-century stave church at Ornes, listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is the oldest of its kind in Norway, bringing together traces of Celtic art, Viking traditions and Romanesque spatial structures, according to whc.unesco.org/en/list/58.

There have been numerous attempts to interpret the iconography of the church's most remarkable part, the old portal in the northern wall, a carved decoration of interlaced, fighting animals. Some believe it portrays the eternal fight between good and evil. Others – that it shows scenes from Norse mythology, with the intertwined snakes and dragons representing the end of the world according to the Norse legend of Ragnarök.

We knew that the church is a must see on our trip to Norway, and it has definitely exceeded my expectations. It is difficult to convey that with photos, but I had to try. This is No.3 (of 3) where you can appreciate the amazing details of the entrance door.

The entrance hall of the Sanctuary of Truth is an impressive and majestic building that serves as the gateway to the sanctuary. It is a beautiful example of traditional Thai architecture and craftsmanship. The building is decorated with beautiful carving details that reflect the work of local artisans. The carvings are very detailed and elaborate, and include depictions of gods, animals and mythological creatures. The design of the entrance hall is inspired by the Buddhist and Hindu temples in Thailand, and it has a distinctly oriental feel. Seven dragons are depicted along the entrance stairs. These dragons are decorated with beautiful carving details along with mermaids and also play an important role in Thailand's mythology and culture. The dragons are considered protectors of the temple and are important symbols of power and authority. In addition to the images of dragons, there are also images of Goddesses. The female images are often refined and detailed, with soft lines and rich textures that reflect Thai craft traditions. They are often depicted in poses that exude elegance and grace.

The Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família English: Basilica and Expiatory Church of the Holy Family is a large Roman Catholic church in Barcelona, Catalonia (Spain), designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926).

Although incomplete, the church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and in November 2010 Pope Benedict XVI consecrated and proclaimed it a minor basilica, as distinct from a cathedral, which must be the seat of a bishop.

Construction of Sagrada Família had commenced in 1882 and Gaudí became involved in 1883, taking over the project and transforming it with his architectural and engineering style, combining Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau forms. Gaudí devoted his last years to the project, and at the time of his death at age 73 in 1926, less than a quarter of the project was complete. Sagrada Família's construction progressed slowly, as it relied on private donations and was interrupted by the Spanish Civil War, only to resume intermittent progress in the 1950s. Construction passed the midpoint in 2010 with some of the project's greatest challenges remaining and an anticipated completion date of 2026, the centenary of Gaudí's death.

From a distance this aged barn looked like it had a brick exterior but a closer inspection revealed a faux-brick siding. There are a lot of industries today that thrive by attempting to make us older folks look better than we really are.

Pillows, at home...

I greatly admire the craftsmanship produced all over the world. I have the utmost respect for the tireless work of these people and have acquired many pieces throughout my life, especially during trips to places near and far.

Here in the photo, a knitted pillow, a local work. The other is a piece from Indonesia, made with natural fibers and rope.

I wish you all a great week.

When the war was over, the world rejoiced. Thanks to rapid economic growth, the birth rate boomed. Life was good, and American pop culture in the 1950’s was regarded as big – think big hair, big skirts, big colours, and big cars, with one of the most iconic models being the Chevy Bel Air that quickly dominated this era. Chevrolet had long been regarded as world leaders when it comes to the production of big, loud and iconic automobiles – and the Chevy Bel Air was no exception.

Iconic cars don’t only appeal to car lovers, but they also tend to attract those passionate about engineering, design, art and yes, history. Before cars were built for efficiency and speed, it was about the experience, style, exclusivity and ultimately, craftsmanship, making them timeless, works of art. Arguably, it was the 1950’s that best encapsulated this methodology, as it was this era that birthed iconic cars like the Chevy Bel Air.
