Explore, thank you !

This is the 1896 County Courthouse in Denton, Texas. The camera is looking north-northwest. You can see the City Hall I mentioned earlier--with the red tile roof and bell tower. Note the "IOOF" sign at the extreme right. As I've mentioned elsewhere, this stands for Independent Order of Odd Fellows. It is a benevolent fraternal order I believe Calhoun Middle School is visible on the left hand border..

Boone County Courthouse in Belvidere, Illinois was built in 1855 in the Italianate style by architects S. W. Smith. The building faces southwest and is a two story red colored brick and wood structure. The building is located on landscaped grounds in the center of Belvidere. The building has a central tower with two arched entrances on the first story. The tower rises to a white square wood structure with white wood cupola at the top. The windows have arched stone trim at the top. Along the southeast is a low two story concrete addition.

The Lee County Courthouse in Tupelo, Mississippi, was constructed in 1904 and is notable for its Classical Revival and Beaux Arts architectural style. Designed by architect Patrick Henry Weathers, the courthouse features a two-story structure with a rectangular shape, a high porch, and a rectangular roof adorned with an octagonal dome. It has been renovated in 1966 and is recognized as a Mississippi Landmark and a component of the Historic Resources of Tupelo. The courthouse is located on 200 West Jefferson Street and is surrounded by landscaped grounds, making it a prominent landmark in the city.

Completed in 1884 this courthouse in Lafayette, Indiana is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Postville Courthouse is a reproduction of Logan County’s first seat of government. Constructed in 1840, the original building until 1848 was one of the courts in which Abraham Lincoln argued cases while traveling the historic Eighth Judicial Circuit. Long after being converted to residential use, the original courthouse was purchased by Henry Ford and in 1929 moved to his Dearborn, Michigan, Greenfield Village museum. This replica was constructed in 1953 on the original site as part of the city of Lincoln’s centennial celebration.

The two-story frame Courthouse sits near the center of a landscaped city block. The first floor has a reception and orientation room and an exhibit gallery. On the second floor are rooms representing an 1840s courtroom and a county office.

The Webster County Courthouse in Fort Dodge, Iowa was built in 1902. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Coweta County Courthouse in downtown Newnan, Georgia. Coweta County is proud to display the 1904 Neoclassical Revival architecture of our historic courthouse. The structure reflects the Italian influence of architect Andrea Palladro in its central crossing plan and English architect Christopher Wrenn in its symmetrical classicism. Traditionally, cornices and pediments of stone were used, but stamped and formed copper were used, as well.

The most interesting feature is the dome, reminiscent of the famed Gibbs Radcliff Library. Rising more than 100 feet above the court square, it features clocks on all four sides. The dome is covered with copper to match the cornice, pediment and railings.

The architect was James Golucke, the son of a German immigrant who settled in Georgia. The courtroom is used by the Probate Court during the week.

Built in 1882, the Parke County Courthouse is part of the Rockville National Historic District which includes an impressive 210 buildings. The architect of this gorgeous building was Thomas J. Tolan. The District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. One of eight historic courthouses that I found on last October's covered bridge road trip.

The next photo in my ghost town series was taken in 1995 and scanned from a slide. This is the Nye County courthouse in Belmont, Nevada. It was built in 1876 and closed in 1905 when the county seat was moved to Tonapah. Belmont was a silver mining town starting in 1865 but the mines played out and most people were gone by 1890. There are two big ruined mills here and numerous other ruins as well as several picturesque intact buildings including an active saloon. Belmont is a long way from anywhere else, but well worth the trip for photographers.

This is said to be the second most photographed building in all of Missouri.

The original courthouse in Carthage MO was burned down during the civil war. And to replace it they build this grand Richardsonian Romanesque style ecourthouse. It's still in use today.

And so anyhow when the clouds overhead looked dramatic I knew I had a nice setup for a blue hour photo.

Built in 1905 in the Classical Revival style, the Grant County Courthouse faces north and is a three story brownstone and concrete structure. The building is located on landscaped grounds in the center of the city. The east front protrudes to create the main entrance, with the south wing and north wing behind. Inside are murals painted by Franz Edward Rohrbeck. On the center of the roof is an octagonal glass and copper dome topped by a small open cupola.

Butler County Courthouse in Greenville, Alabama was built in 1904 in the Romaneque Revival style. The building faces west and is a two story red colored brick, stone and concrete structure. The building is located on the landscaped grounds of Courthouse Square in the center of Greenville. The west front has a portico on the first story supported by six columns. The front of the first story is faced with stone. Above the entrance rises a five story clock tower having a balcony around the fifth story and a red dome at the top.

This image of Courthouse Butte was taken from the side of Bell Rock. As I approached Bell Rock - It is shaped like a bell - I could here a flute. Eventually I noticed a man on a ledge, high up on Bell Rock who was playing a flute. It was a large wooden flute, typical of this area, and he was playing a haunting, melodious melody. During my week stay in Sedona, I often heard and/or saw this type of instrument being played. Beautiful sound.

I arrived at the spot from which I took this photo and I just laird on the rock. Temperatures were mild, no wind, lots of sunshine and the only sound was that of the flute. A magical moment.

US Courthouse - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma - October 2024

On our way to the U.P. we drove thru this nice small town and ran across this beauty of a court house.

The Wayne County Courthouse in Wayne, Nebraska, is a Richardsonian Romanesque-style historic courthouse that was built in 1899. It is a 70-by-80-foot building located in the center of a 4-acre square amidst, somewhat unexpectedly, a residential neighborhood. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Its cornerstone indicates that it was designed by Minneapolis architects Orff & Guilbert, but it seems to have been wholly designed by Fremont D. Orff (1856–1914) alone, and it was built by Omaha contractors Rowles & Moore.

Texas has so many beautiful courthouses. Too bad our town isn’t one of them.

The Polk County Courthouse in Osceola, Nebraska, is a Beaux Arts-style building designed by architect William F. Gernandt. It was built in 1921-22 and is located on the Courthouse Square in Osceola. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

It is a two-story courthouse building on a raised basement, about 98 by 68 feet in plan, with entrances on north and south facades. Its National Register nomination describes it as "a tour de force of classically inspired ornamentation rendered in creamcolored terra cotta and contrasting tan-grey brick. A variety of rich classical detail, immense columns, pronounced cornice, and rusticated basement are hallmarks of the Beaux Arts Style exhibited on the building. In particular, the terra cotta detail is a visual delight. Acroteria and rosettes march along the top of the projecting cornice, with consoles in an acanthus pattern and an egg-and-dart course below. Shields, della Robbia wreaths, swags, and geometric patterns further adorn the facade."

The Guadalupe County courthouse in Santa Rosa, New Mexico was built in 1909. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Noblesville, IN

The courthouse is built in the Second Empire style of architecture.
