Had some people over for dinner last night to thank them for being such good and helpful friends.
First course: shrimp croquettes with veggies or for the ones that don't eat fish: the cheese variant.
main course: french fries, veggies and fish with a mushroom/peppersauce. Or steak with peppersauce.
No pics because I was running around like a mad man trying to get everything at the same time on the table. Didn't work btw.
Dessert: ice cream with (too expensive) strawberries and raspberry sauce. Or chocolate sprinklers if you don't like the fruit thingies.
Of course no Marshall Taylor vacation is complete without a history lesson and Old San Juan is steeped in history! This portion of San Juan is very similar to Old Havana in that it is the original colonial section of a major Spanish settlement and is protected from occupation by other colonial empires by very impressive forts. In this case there were originally seven forts that were all joined by a towering stone wall. The remnants of the wall are represented here by the thick black lines which essentially surround Old San Juan and the two remaining forts are adjacent to the large beige areas in the map. (Most of the land outside those walls is landfill added in later centuries.)

A view of the final barrel roll, the second of two that were added to INTAMIN's 8-inversion layout to break the record for most track inversions of any rollercoaster. Here, Colossus is seen dormant and thus with a different atmosphere to that it normally holds: the entire area was quiet and calm, giving the impression that the steel structure was somehow part of an environment such as the Lost City.

At an awards ceremony at the Camp Casey Golf Course June 16, officials of U.S. Army Garrison Red Cloud and Area I recognize the recent work of garrison employees and civilian contractors in connection with major projects the garrison completed or currently has underway. Most were recognized for their work in the full-scale effort to out-process Soldiers of the 2nd Infantry Division's 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, which inactivates this summer. The brigade will inactivate this summer, to be replaced by the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, which will serve a nine-month rotation. Col. Jack Haefner, Commander, USAG Red Cloud and Area I, presented the awards. Five contractors with the Area I Military Personnel Division (MPD) received certificates of appreciation for having performed "in a truly outstanding manner" in their efforts to out-process the brigade's Soldiers. They were: Corey Boteler, Albert J. Deloney, Robert Hochmuth, Ranhee Mainous, and Kyong Yang. Five garrison civilian employees received Commander's Award for Civilian Service medals. Four of those employees received the medal for their "meritorious service" in assisting with the brigade's inactivation and its replacement by the rotational brigade. They were: Dionne Davis Marshall Downs, Jin Y. Han, and George Stapleton. A fifth employee, Larry O. Butler, was awarded the medal for his "exceptional duty performance" as project officer for the recent $1.9 million renovation of the Carey Physical Fitness Center, which has since been called "the jewel of fitness centers on the Korean peninsula." The awards ceremony was followed immediately by a luncheon with Dr. Christine T. Altendorf, Region Director of the U.S. Army Installation Management Command-Pacific Region (IMCOM-Pacific). - U.S. Army photo by Pfc. Park Sung-ho
