I almost got him all the way in my camera frame.

A juvenile cooper's hawk warming up in the early morning sun.

I couldn't find a lot of information of this behavior, but based on it's wet feathers and it's position in the sun, it looks like it was trying to dry off.

I havent shot film since the 90's. I gave up on digital... and I am fully embracing analog photography once again. Long live film. LOVE the grain. :)

A cooper is a person who makes wooden stave barrels. His goods are called cooperage, which would not be limited to just barrels. They would also make buckets, tubs, butter churns, hogsheads, firkins, pins and breakers.

Cooper to the World!

Cooper's Hawk at the Montlake FIll, just north of the SW pond. This one hopped up to the perch just as I walked up and let me get fairly close.

Now, I suppose this could be a Sharp-shinned hawk. It seemed too big to me to have been one though. Arguments in favor of it having been one are welcomed.

The Cooper Union Building where the Cooper Institute speech, was delivered by Abraham Lincoln on February 27, 1860, at Cooper Union, in New York City. Lincoln was not yet the Republican nominee for the presidency, as the convention was scheduled for May. It is considered one of his most important speeches. Some historians have argued that the speech was responsible for his victory in the presidential election later that year.

In the speech, Lincoln elaborated his views on slavery by affirming that he did not wish it to be expanded into the western territories and claiming that the Founding Fathers would agree with this position. The journalist Robert J. McNamara wrote, "Lincoln's Cooper Union speech was one of his longest, at more than 7,000 words. And it is not one of his speeches with passages that are often quoted. Yet, due to the careful research and Lincoln's forceful argument, it was stunningly effective.

Horace Greeley's New York Tribune hailed it as "one of the most happiest and most convincing political arguments ever made in this City. ... No man ever made such an impression on his first appeal to a New-York audience.

all the same bird, of course. these babies are amazingly predictable: july 25th and they're zooming and squealing around the neighborhood. playing. sometimes being attacked by a swarm of other birds, including hummers.

i'm assuming sharp-shinned because in sibley's the picture of them flying looks more like these guys. and i also know that at this age it's hard to tell. i don't think this one was big enough to be a coopers either.

don't know if it makes much difference, but this is on my neighbor's tree here in berkeley, california.

got any ideas? thanks.

The new offices for McInnes Cooper involved 90,000 sq. ft. of renovated office space for 275 employees over 6 floors of Purdy’s Wharf, Tower II. The goal of creating a high quality, polished and unique new look for the law firm has resulted in facilities that exhibit a clean and elegant modern aesthetic. The centerpiece, a new two storey atrium with floor to ceiling views of Halifax Harbour, features careful detailing of natural stone, high gloss lacquer walls, floor to ceiling glass partitions and stainless steel accents. Access to natural daylight and state of the art technology are seamlessly integrated into the design.
