After 24 free concerts at the Tower Grove Farmers' Market, Harvest Sessions 2008 came to a grand, autumnal close with three critically acclaimed artists: Rough Shop, Cooper-Moore and Grace Basement. This final concert of the season was presented by KDHX and The Whitaker Foundation.
Featuring John Wendland, Andy Ploof and Anne Tkach, Rough Shop recently released Here Today, their first album as an acoustic trio. The Riverfront Times' Christian Schaeffer praised the band's ability to "mix tradition and idiosyncrasy in a comforting and compelling fashion."
Teacher, philosopher, instrument maker and radical innovator, Cooper-Moore has been on the cutting-edge of jazz since the 1970s.
Fronted by multi-instrumentalist (and notably ace fiddler) Kevin Buckley, Grace Basement veers between grungy basement experimentalism and romantic folk.
Saint Louis Belly Dancers entertained market shoppers during intermissions between musical acts.

Cooper's Hawk, Accipiter cooperii, immature
Wowsers! I got another one and this time, much closer! I was in the general vicinity of the location where I got the photo of the other hawk/falcon, when I saw this bird swoop down in front of me. I was taking a picture of a hydrant at the time... how fortuitous!
As far as I can determine, this is an immature Cooper's Hawk. Not sure if the other bird I saw was the same species, but this guy was about 30% smaller. There were actually a pair of them, but the other one didn't land in the tree.
Cooper's Hawk with lunch. Was out mowing my front lawn when this guy came flying through with a Morning Dove and when he say me made a quick u-turn into my neighbor's tree. I made a mad dash to get my camera and was happy to see he hadn't left when I got back.

Vigilant juvenile Cooper's Hawk spotted on a telephone wire in the Southwest end of the Shirley's Bay Conservation Area, near the Watts Creek path. Seconds after the picture was taken, the hawk dove on a mouse in the tall grass in the ditch beside the road and flew off with his prey. Oct 29, 2011.

Cooper's Hawk (Accipiter cooperii), juvenile, Sunnyvale Baylands Park, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara County, California - August 2010.
I saw this Hawk yesterday sitting on a light pole down the street from my house. I sorta see a more rounded tail and the dark cap, I am wanting to confirm that this is a Cooper's Hawk. It was taken in Northern California, USA on January 6th, 2014.
driving down the street in town a couple of blocks from home, I looked up and right above me was this great Cooper's hawk, I went around the block and came up beside him on a side street, as long as I shot through the windshield all was well, when I opened the car door in hopes of getting a clearer shot, he was gone. So, I'm thankful for what I was able to get.
