Cooper's hawk at Middlecreek Wildlife Management Area, Kleinfeltersville, PA

Less need for tagging when the type is decent to begin with. Thanks to Oswald Bruce Cooper, 1922.

So when we came back from taking the swan pictures we found that the local coopers hawk had been visiting our bird feeders.

Cooper's Hawk - Accipiter cooperii

Montgomery County, Indiana, February 28, 2010. Better viewed large. There was a twig between me and his eye which was unfortunate.

Day 26 of Project 365

I was looking outside my den window this morning and saw this Coppers Hawk sitting right by the feeder on a branch and a black Squirrel was coming down the branch toward him and I thought you better watch yourself or you are going to be breakfast. He had his tail feathers all spread out and it was a beautiful sight so I moved slowly to not scare him while attempting to go and get my camera but as I came back he flew away and landed on another branch to bad I did not get that photo it was quite the sight. After shooting this picture I scared him away so that he did not eat my birds.

A few shots from the Vintage and Classic Hillclimb At Harewood on Saturday

As I approached the Coopers Hawk nesting area today, I noticed a distinct lack of nestlings,in the nest or in the branches around the nest. All I saw was tis adult. Then some movement above my head clued me in! There were about a dozen Turkey Vultures floating over head, close to the nest, close enough to get some pretty alright shots of them with a cloud obscured sun! I figured the other adult was covering the nestlings in the nest! I sure wish I could get up there and see for sure. I suppose the adult hawks wouldn't appreciate that though! :)

The falls at Cooper Park in Comstock have frozen - the water can be seen moving behind the ice.

The falls at Cooper Park are the tallest falls in Kalamazoo County. :-D
