Martinez is a popular chef who can instantly capture an audience with her charm and passion for cooking. She manages a small catering business, "The Passionate Palate," named for her cooking school days and is also the host of “Daisy Cooks,” which airs on Philadelphia affiliate PBS Station WHYY.
Bill Boggs emceed the Simon Super Chefs Life! event at the Oxford Valley Mall with Deanna Durante of NBC 10 News. The event was a unique day-long celebration of food, cooking, and entertaining. It included celebrity Chef Daisy Martinez, and four of the top local Philadelphia Chefs, Cary Neff of Samson Street Oyster House, Walter Staib of City Tavern, and Joanna DeFrancesco of Bella Tori. The participating chefs used fresh produce and herbs from Greensgrow Farms, a Philadelphia-based non-profit urban farm founded by Mary Seton Corboy. The event included live cooking demonstrations, food and beverage sampling, cookbook sales, autograph signings and an exciting round-robin cook-off between the local celebrity chefs. The cook-off was judged by emcees Bill Boggs and Deanna Durante and the winner of the competition was Joanna DeFrancesco.

Tomorrow I am participating in FoodieMeet.ca's fundraising Bake Off for The Stop.
27 bakers - amateur & professional are coming together to share our treats all in the "Escape From Toronto" theme.
I'm intimidated by the baking the other folks are bringing to the table.
I'm bringing a selection of shortbread using my grandmother's secret recipe but kicking it up with a selection of spice-infused sugars.
I'm calling them the Spice Route Shortbreads.
I'll also be bringing a gingerbread (assuming I can whip it up tomorrow morning.)

There are really two contests going on at the Royal, the invitational and the open. To cook in the invitational, you have to have won a Grand Championship in a sanctioned 'cue event of 50 smoking teams or more. 3 Guys with Wood won the 2006 Lenexa (Kansas) Barbecue Battle, which some people hold in higher regard round these parts than the Royal.
