Dic. 03, 2020. With her bluff bow, high house, and stout rigging, Mi Lana is a serious fishing platform—probably from the late 1940s or early 1950s. Her sweeping stern and tall masthead lights suggest she once ranged far offshore. The sharp bootstripe and crisp paint job signal an owner who still takes pride. Bay Center, WA, her home port, was once a center of oyster and salmon harvesting—a context this vessel fits squarely into.
Unlike fiberglass, a wooden hull doesn’t “pause” its decay when it’s out of the water. While on the hard, the danger lies in over-drying—planks can shrink and seams part. Savvy owners control exposure and humidity, and keep weight evenly distributed across properly placed supports. Any re-caulking or frame sistering must be done before relaunch, and with sea time in mind: once back in the water, the boat must “take up” quickly.
Mi Lana looks ready for another season—one of the rare wooden survivors not just preserved, but maintained for purpose. A boat like this is more than a vessel; it’s a working heirloom.

Stormwater detention pond on south side of Grange Avenue, at 112th Street, in the Village of Hales Corners, Wisconsin. Pond constructed as part of a Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) stormwater flood control project. I don't know the exact date of construction but I believe it was the early 2000s. Photo is from 2006.
Gardner, Mass. - Control car of inbound commuter train. This is as far west as commuter trains ever went in the era of MBTA sponsored commuter service. Unlike the rest of the Boston north side commuter service, this track is owned by the Boston and Maine RR (now Pan Am Southern). When the MBTA and the railroad got into a dispute service ended. Not sure of photo date but I think it was taken while I was still a regular commuter on the former Portland Division. I stopped commuting on an everyday basis in 1989. Pan Am Southern and the MBTA have agreed to let commuter trains run as far west as Wachusett (west of Fitchburg, the end of MBTA track ownership, but not as far west as Gardner.) A new parking lot and boarding platform are under construction in 2014 at Wachusett.
Big shoot today and a new perspective... if I'd been at the controls of this octocopter, my camera would have been for a swim!
A visit to the Schuylkill Mall, 11/8/14
I think this is where they would've controlled all of the water from both the aforementioned pipe and the cascading fountains found in the actual center court. I really wish all of them still ran.
*This is my very first attempt at documenting a shopping mall. Armed only with a 4th generation iPod Touch, the quality didn't turn out as well as I expected and the general framing and composition of the shots suffered in some areas. I hope to both get better equipment and sensibilities to continue doing this.*
Self-control is the ability to control one's emotions, behavior, and desires in order to obtain some reward, or avoid some punishment. While a recent friend of mine was here, I had to experience a burning desire every time I was by her side, because even though I wanted to express my emotions towards her so deeply, I couldn't. Every time, it was a battle of brain against emotions, and I'm very proud to say that i succeeded.
This photo represents every one time a person has to control himself. The hand reaches out to grab; we want something, and we want it dearly, but because of certain factors, we have to control these emotions. and to control these emotions is not an easy task.

Sunday afternoons are never the busiest at work, so the quiet spells gave me a chance to sit there and bind up a load of documents. The binding looked somehow appealing for a photograph, but never quite worked out how I expected it to.

H-BRCKCK hauls west with the correct leader and some (off camera) ex ATSF “Shock Control” Boxcars. Ironically I was waiting almost the whole day for a BNSF SD70ACE leader on an eastbound intermodal and the reason being that these EMD units almost never lead intermodal trains. Unfortunately the train in particular was an “S” symboled/port stack intermodal train. These trains are notorious for having the lowest priority possible and thus sat in Eola yard the entire day until (to the best of my knowledge) got back moving shortly after the evening rush hour.
