Cecil Haney, visited the U.S. Army Pacific Contingency Command Post to get a first-hand look at their operations and capabilities, on Fort Shafter, Hawaii, Nov. 7. CCP Soldiers illustrated some of these aspects to Haney via a mobile operations display at the CCP, consisting of a Deployable Rapid Assembly Shelter (DRASH), vehicles, communications equipment and Soldiers, set up as they would be for a forward mission.

Cecil Haney, visited the U.S. Army Pacific Contingency Command Post to get a first-hand look at their operations and capabilities, on Fort Shafter, Hawaii, Nov. 7. CCP Soldiers illustrated some of these aspects to Haney via a mobile operations display at the CCP, consisting of a Deployable Rapid Assembly Shelter (DRASH), vehicles, communications equipment and Soldiers, set up as they would be for a forward mission.

The Vermont National Guard sent a contingency of five soldiers along with Maj. Gen. Steven Cray, adjutant general, Vermont National Guard, to France celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the end of World War I. Each state that had National Guard representation in World War I were invited back to France to celebrate the anniversary. National Guardsmen visited monuments, cemeteries, villages, battle sites, trenches, museums, and attended ceremonies as part of their visit. The Center for Military History provided guides throughout the trip.

Samuel Shed, a forward observer assigned to Troop A, 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Advise and Assist Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, demonstrates how to secure an assigned sector during squad movement training Jan. 3, 2011. Shed, a native of Electra, Texas, trained soldiers assigned to 1st Battalion, 11th Brigade, 3rd Iraqi Army Division, at Al Ghuzlani Warrior Training Center, a newly opened site at Contingency Operating Site Marez capable of facilitating training for battalion-sized units. U.S. forces are supervising the inaugural training in support of Al Tadreeb Al Shamil, Arabic for All Inclusive Training, conducting individual and collective infantry training with units of the 3rd IA Div. at the new training facility.

CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE SPIECHER, Iraq – Soldiers deployed to Contingency Operating Base Speicher, Iraq, watch the Green Bay Packers 31-25 victory over the Pittsburg Steelers during Super Bowl XLV at the during the early morning hours of Feb. 7, 2011 at the Comprehensive Soldier Fitness Center. In addition to watching the game, Soldiers enjoyed a buffet of hot wings and pizza; took part in energy drink guzzling and hot wing eating contests; and played pool and ping-pong.
