Cecil Haney, visited the U.S. Army Pacific Contingency Command Post to get a first-hand look at their operations and capabilities, on Fort Shafter, Hawaii, Nov. 7. CCP Soldiers illustrated some of these aspects to Haney via a mobile operations display at the CCP, consisting of a Deployable Rapid Assembly Shelter (DRASH), vehicles, communications equipment and Soldiers, set up as they would be for a forward mission.

Soldiers of the U.S. Army Pacific Contingency Command Post participated in a Disaster Management exercise in Wellington, New Zealand. During the exercise Soldiers set up an Emergency Operations Center, conducted briefings, conducted assessments of water treatement facilities, hospitals and roadways. Soldiers also had an opportunity to tour the New Zealand Parliament, met with VIPs of the New Zealand Defence Force and had a chance to see much of the natural beauty New Zealand is famous for. During the exercise, Soldiers of the CCP worked side by side with members of New Zealand’s Headquarters Deployable Joint Inter-agency Task Force and New Zealand’s Civil Defence.

CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE SPEICHER, Iraq – An Iraqi soldier assigned to Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Iraqi Army Division, fires from the standing position during range training at Field Engineer Regiment compound, March 19, 2011. CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE SPICHER, Iraq – Spc. Daniel Pelletier, a metal worker assigned to 299th Engineer Company, 724th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, uses a torch welder to free a section of an Improvised Rafting Bridge on the Tigris River near Sharqat, Iraq, Jan 23, 2011. As the 299th Eng. Company engineers dismantled the IRB, vehicles crossed a brand new Iraqi made Sharqat Bridge which opened to Iraqi citizens for the first time the same day. The new Sharqat Bridge provides the quickest route for traffic traveling between the cities of Mosul and Tikrit.

The Vermont National Guard sent a contingency of five soldiers along with Maj. Gen. Steven Cray, adjutant general, Vermont National Guard, to France celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the end of World War I. Each state that had National Guard representation in World War I were invited back to France to celebrate the anniversary. National Guardsmen visited monuments, cemeteries, villages, battle sites, trenches, museums, and attended ceremonies as part of their visit. The Center for Military History provided guides throughout the trip.

A contingency of Northwestern State University students visit Universitaria Tecnologico Comfenalco and Universidad Libre in Cartagena, Colombia as part of their capstone leadership program.
